Many people ask why the game developers don't just make the games shown in the ads, as those fake games often look more fun the actual game. The truth is that sadly those fake games are harder to monetize. You can have millions of levels and power ups and in game purchases with a match 3 game with little art cost, but with a pull the key style game, there is only so much you can do before you run out of art or ideas.

Depends which games. I have seen ones that include the ads as part of the game, and so cutting off the internet won't do anything to stop the ads. But there are very few of those. Also, some Android phones and tablets will allow you to disable data use for any apps of your choice. OnePlus has included this feature for a while. If it runs LineageOS, it has this. I can't speak for anyone else right now.
