For a future Game Theory, how about calculating the speed of Kirby's Warp Star? You could use Kirby's height from his Melee trophy description (8 inches) and measure framerates in the classic games. If you REALLY wanted to go in-depth, you could calculate the speed needed to escape Dark Star's explosion at the end of Kirby 64, by calculating Zero Two's size, use E = mc^2 to see how much energy could be stored in Zero's mass, then convert that energy into megatons.

Plus, they make a living off of it. I was giving them a suggestion (calculate the Warp Star's speed), then backing it up (telling them how they could do it so they have evidence to work with).

Oh man, I can't believe the Jump Start series wasn't on here! Those were some of my favorite games growing up! Like the Dr. Brain series, it quizzed you on a wide assortment of topics like math, history, art, science. But these games tailored it to your respective grade level so you could not only grow with the series, but even get a leg up! Having trouble with third grade math? Pop in Jump Start 3rd Grade. Want to prepare for the next year? Go Jump Start 4th Grade! And similar to the Junior Adventure series, they each featured a unique art style and dare-I-say plot to them that made them enjoyable to fun. I just wish those games were my tests instead of the pen-and-paper standard.

Carmen Sandiago was my childhood. At least the part of it that wasn't Pokemon. Or Age of Empires. Speaking of which, I know it technically doesn't count, but that game probably taught me more history than actual history classes.
@BigKlingy10 жыл бұрын
...You do realise I said Pokemon was pretty much my childhood too, right? In fact you'd have a hard time finding a bigger Pokemon fan than me at my school. Come on, you're allowed to like more than one game franchise.
@LogoFreak9310 жыл бұрын
On that note, this might sound crazy but Pokemon could be considered a somewhat educational game series if it's not taken too literally. It teaches kids how to care for their pets and their evolution is a metaphor for the pet growing up. Also it teaches kids about the reality of death through Lavender Town, which might be why so many of our generation was afraid of it. But it's only a theory, A GAME THEORY.
@BigKlingy10 жыл бұрын
Eh, if Pokemon teaches kids how to care for their pets, it also teaches kids that having their pets fight their friends' pets is okay. So I don't think that part should really be taken seriously. I do think that it is educational on the level that most Pokemon are based off real life animals, which broadens kids knowledge. Seriously, who knew about Sea Angels until they saw Manaphy? Some of the Pokemon also teach basic bilological concepts, like how Slowbro and Shellder are an example of Symbiosis. As for Lavender Town.... ugh, I fing that place overrated, honestly. So many genwunners with "Nostalgia goggles" make it out to be so much darker than it actually is. Sure it's darker than most stuff in RBY, but here's the thing: did any kids even realise? Most of it would have gone over their heads. I know when I was a kid, the only reason I was scared of Lavender Town was the music. I'm sure that's the case for many others of our generation. The point being, if you compare Lavender Town to a game that has the reality of death as an explicit theme (I'm thinking Persona 3 here, anyone who's played it will know what I mean) you'll realise they're very different. Lavender Town is more about showing how bad Team Rocket is, really. Here's my theory: if they really wanted Lavender Town to explicityly be about teaching kids the reality of death, it wouldn't be the Marowak that died. It's be ONE OF THE PLAYER'S POKEMON. That would certainly work, though it'd be pretty harsh.

Demand a weekly episode? How about you try making a decent theory in under a month, let alone a week. Try writing, recording and editing one of these things and having it come out decent. Then come back and make your demand. Jesus, DEMANDS. You want it so badly make it yourself.

The reason he slowed is because he has a full time job before he was unemployed so he had more time to put into the channel.

Dude, no Gizmo's and Gadgets? I thought for sure it would be on the list, after you said it. My #1 favorite learning game. I learned so much from that. Also, thanks for the name Museum Madness. I have been trying to remember that name for years. Need to find it now.

That's not really a theory, more of an experiment to test.

The incredible machine! I loved playing that games as a kid. Between solving and building your own puzzles I must have spent hundreds of hours playing that.

Matpat! What happened to the super solvers series from the learning company?! Seriously! "Outnumbered!" and "Gizmos & Gadgets" were some of the best educational games there were!

My favourite Educational Game is the great Archeology game "Knochen, Scherben, Grabbeigaben", that really teaches you much about archeology and history AND still is great fun. Unfortunately it is only available in german, I think ...

I disaggree with this somewhat. All of these are edutainment games, meaning games that were specifically and obviously designed to teach something to someone. What's more interesting in my mind and much much more effective in my experience are games that don't hit you over the head with trying to teach you something, but basically just happen to teach you something while you are having fun playing them. Personally i have learned an incredible amount about geography from Paradox grand strategy games like EU 4 or CK 2 and i doubt i would have spent nearly as much time and learned nearly as much in "Where in the world is Carmen sandiego".

ALL video games are educational: •Dead Space thought me how to squash spiders with no paper towels around (stomping on them). •Halo taught me that strategy can help in any situation. •Goat simulator taught me how NOT to use physics. •Minecraft taught me to always be prepared in any situation in life and to never waist time. •Skyrim taught me that not knowing where you are gong or not knowing what you are doing caries a heavy price. •Dark souls deeply reminded me to NEVER take life for granted. •Metroid: Fusion taught me that without instructions or guidance you will fail in life. And •online gaming voice chat taught me and trained me to never let other people's words hurt me. The list could go on.
