For someone who is looking to but their first gun, this is a very helpful video.

For me it all comes down to fit. If an equivalent field gun fits you better than the sporting version you will shoot it better. I do like the wider ribs on sporting versions. There is also longevity to consider. With browning the actions are all built to the same specs. So rebuilding them will be the sale. Beretta does slight changes to their action that makes a 682 potentially have a longer life than a 686. But if you’re shooting enough to complete wear out any quality to over and under to the point it can’t be serviced then you’re probably a professional.

Interesting..... My clays double is a 20 bore game gun..... or a12 bore self loader.... bit of a contrast there. I also have a couple of S/S doubles, both by Hollis.... one a Damascus external hammer sidelock in which I only use black powder, and the other is a 'hammerless' one of later vintage they are both quite light compared to the more modern ones. I only shoot clays (and steel) these days...and yes I have a 20" 870 Remington for that, sights and all for slugs. I learn a lot from videos like yours, thanks... 🙂

Pandemic lockdown and simple availibility made my choice for me, a beretta silver pigeon 1 game, 12 ga 30 inch. Only used for skeet, trap, and sporting clays. I love it and with no sporter to compare I can't imagine a better feel with a sporter. maybe I'll add 5 oz in the stock to see if a change of balance affects my opinion.

Nice video! I'm doing both clay shooting and hunting with my 725 sporter and it feels great on both. Recently I got a Merkel o/u, very different in handling and a lot lighter (about 450 grams). It mounts easier to me (probably because of the slightly shorter stock) but I do miss how steady the 725 keeps after each shot, even with heavy cartridges (34 and 36 grams).

I had an Anschutz Miroku bird gun with 26" mod/imp fixed chokes that I shot just as well as a Cynergy CX I had. Sometimes you just get along well with a gun.
@Oldhogleg2 жыл бұрын
I like both for different types of targets. For closer targets where you'll be moving faster, I prefer the faster handling lighter one; such as Skeet. But when the target's are farther out, I prefer the more stable heavier ones; like Trap and many Sporting Clay targets.

Sporter for me all day long , just prefer the handling and weight for game and clays. Just got a sporter semi-auto to try too for pigeon shooting and rough shooting.

Any modern 3inch super steel proofed multi choke Sporter is the way to go for future driven Game Shooting. The heavier barrels/gun weight counter the increased recoil of modern usable/efficient high velocity steel cartridges that do work.

Thanks for another great video. Out of the shotguns that I own, my Browning Hunter grade 1 is my favorite. It’s the new model hunter that came out at the end of 2021. 12ga. 28” barrels, weighing in at 7pound 11 oz. I have no problem carrying it all day in the bird field or two round of sporting clay in a day. I’d love to see what your thoughts and opinion of the new model Browning hunter grade 1 is.

I use a 30inch game mk60 for clay's between 100 and 200 a month also for walked up 4 days a year and 3 beaters days my logic being keep it simple and use the same gun for everything tried lumping a sporter round on a walked up day gets very waring so although I shoot more clay's than game the game gun works for me. Question would a 525 game shoot pretty much the same as my mk60 as I am told they are the same gun?
@mickben.54812 жыл бұрын
In Australia the MK 70 and the 525 are the same. The MK70 has a varnish finish. The 525 an oil finish. I have the 525 sporter.

@sturisa2 жыл бұрын
Sporters are carried less and shot more, game guns are carried more and shot less. It makes sense that game guns are lighter. Also, the stock on a sporter is often a Monte Carlo stock for rising trap targets.

I'm not as critical as the other commentators. My observation is it seems the game gun jumped more when being fired. More recoil = less control for follow-ons.

Walking around a pigeon field......what!!? Tell he's not done much pigeon shooting. Most people I know choose a sporter for game shooting also, they are heavier so they absorb the recoil of heavy game loads more, only thing is they tend not to have a auto safety catch, a decent gunsmith can modify this easily.
@davidadams41732 жыл бұрын
