One thing the Wii version has above other versions are the new levels, which are very easily missed. When playing in mirror mode, each level has a hidden portal which will lead to a new challenge area. These were incredibly difficult but I loved them. Outside of that one aspect I’d say Phantasy Reverie is much better in most regards. Although the collision with the wind bullet is much more precise and the timing is less forgiving than the other versions, which makes it more difficult. So really the ps1 version is still the best. But I’d imagine the visuals would be off putting for most modern audiences.

Never expected to see Kohta Takahashi featured in this video or even knew he worked on this games music, he's the composer of one of my favorite game ost's Ridge Racer Type 4 and honestly just some of my favorite songs in general. If you liked his work in this game I recommend checking out his other stuff
@FindingsOfAnArmouredMind2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately he's not even the most prominent participant in the making of Klonoa's OST. I think it's pretty dismissive to the other composers (which are many) to say we should listen to him if we like Klonoa, that should be for Eriko Imura, she created the vast majority of songs, especially the much darker tunes like "Untamed Heart" or "The Closing Encounter".

I started the series on Wii, up until then Klonoa was just a Symphonia costume to me. I went really hard on the series, tracked down physical copies of 2 for the PS2, the first GBA game, read the web comic, joined a fan community, the whole 9 yards. I'm always happy to see it back. I went out of my way to import a physical copy for the Switch this time too.

Klonoa was never about how you play the game but it was the story that it wanted to tell visually and cut scenes Klonoa didn't do well originally not because it was bad game, it is good game you can believe that Klonoa was created in time when it had to race with other mascots In so called "Mascot war" in PS1 era time, facing against titans like Mario, Sonic, Rayman, Spyro, Crash you name few So you can guess what happened to minor mascot characters after Mascot war, they either just had to shut things down or believe in future and hope game had cult following It is good to see Klonoa back, i bought Phantasy Reverie series moment it came live Music in Klonoa is amazing Look up Vision 6-2 ost, you can thank me later about that Joka was good joke character first but later turned tables and showed his true colors being tactical and extremely cruel individual This is amazing way of showing character building, not many games does this with their joke characters that even "minor" characters become major threats You can go and look then you will notice this because there aren't many If no one hasn't played it yet, i highly recommend buying it Steam or any console of your choice You won't regret it Just ignore Wii versions existance when even OG creators and Namco wants ignore it with rest of fan base

And after all this time, I still think the review is quite solid. Here's hoping you'll eventually get around to doing more Klonoa content on top of the usual Sonic stuff, Nick!
@scenikeight2 жыл бұрын
The reason why the Wii version's audio wasn't used for the cutscenes in the remaster is because the dialogue is different in the Wii one. Klonoa doesn't talk nearly as much. I would have preferred if they'd rerecorded all of it again, but it's understandable why they didn't (and I think it's worth it for how good Klonoa's VA's delivery is in that final CG cutscene... you know what I'm talking about), and it's worth not having the gutted script. I wish instead of the shitty pixel filter they'd made a cel shading filter. There's a reason why Klonoa 2 looked like that on the PS2, and it's a shame there's no sign of that artstyle anywhere in it.

I loved playing klonoa on the ps3, before I knew that the game was actually a Port from the ps1. The graphics, despite their simple nature, had me enamoured in the game. That opening cutscene is lovingly kept in my head, heart, and soul till the day I die and I think of it as one of the best examples of CGI being put to the test despite now knowing of its age. The grab mechanic is one of my favorite ways of tackling problems in a game. Call me blinded by nostalgia, but I think of og klonoa as a f$+king masterpiece.

So the reason I found this game is because I did a risky trade with kid at my a school. I had n64 and he had a bootleg PlayStation from the Philippines or something. His uncle got him like 300 games because they were all just pirated and only cost like 2-5 bucks. I ended up with like 40 Bootleg PS1 games in the trade lol. I found Klonoah and it instantly captured me with its into. Funny thing is that it was all in Japanese with no option for English. But it didn’t matter. The emotion from the voice totally communicated enough to keep me going. I even teared up at the ending. I didn’t have a memory card so I had to beat the game In One sitting. But I didn’t care. I loved playing the game from beginning to end. One of my favorite platforms of all time. Nice to see someone else giving it some love.

It would've been neat if the game did the same thing the NiGHTS into Dreams remaster on PC did by letting you swap between, SPECIFICALLY, the OG and remastered visuals. Like, in this game's context they'd both still use the new dialogue, but all the levels would be given their PS1 models and all the characters/enemies would use pre-rendered sprites (with the exceptions of most bosses). The game itself would still retain the remake's gameplay quirks and whatnot, but with the older graphics.
