Here we have a Gameboy Color that has a broken battery board spring and also not working A Button. After inspecting the board under the microscope I found the issue. Enjoy the repair!
Some of you asked, what tools I use so here you have a simple list, because I really don't use anything special:
- Solder Iron: The cheapest from Amazon
- Screwdriver: DIAOPROTECT 122 in 1
- Heatgun: Rework Station 858D
- Fume Absorber: COMGROW Fume Laser Absorber
- Flux: AMTECH NC-559-ASM Flux
- Solder: Owootecc (Sn99,3 Cu0,7/0,6mm,50g)
- For removing rust or cutting plastic: Wuudi engraving tool set

Thanks for the hint. Its just that I enjoy repairing without talking. :) I also like to watch ohters repairing stuff but choose those who barely talk. Its probably a matter of own preferences. :)

Beauty comes from within, in this case only after your repair. My goodness the part was filthy in some places 🤮. Maybe I should send you my broken car radio so you can fix it 🤣

Even tho I never repaired one before? ;D But yeah that Cola Gameboy was sticky and disgusting at some point. A good clean saved the case, but I was pretty happy beeing able to solder again! :)

@@x-fix After you've touched the GameBoy, you'll definitely need a tetanus shot 😷. A car radio, GameBoy or SNES ..... all just electro hocus pocus😄

I have a problem with the start button not working, but select works. Cleaned and corrosion-free. I've already lost hope. Maybe a resistor is responsible for this? Anyway, it's a nice and useful material. Regards.

This usually means that the start copper line is somewhere interrupted. No resistors on the button paths! Just try to figure out where the gap is. Take your time and im sure you will discover it sooner or later! Let me know if you find it or if you need any further help. Also a multimeter in continuity mode can help you out to find it. There is a nice board scan of any gamboy device on the retro six wikia that will help you to follow the paths!

Where did you find the board scans of the copper traces. I can't easily find the GBC ones. What tool did you use to sand away the top layer of the pcb so you could get to the copper layer?

Hey there! I use the RetroSix Wiki for any board scans and schematics! They have a huge library with anything necessary. I used a glas fiber pen in this video but I recommend to use a grinding pen of your choice. Doesnt have to be anything fancy. I for example use actually an electric wood grinding pen. You just need to scrap off some of the soldermask. I only use the glas fiber pen if I have to scrap off bigger surfaces. The reason is that I got sick of getting stung by the micro fiber glass rests. :) You can also simply use your tweezers to scrap off small solder mask areas. :)

What kind of wire/thickness did you use for jumping those disconnected traces?
@x-fix

Hi! Its probably 0,01mm wire. I recycle simple wires by opening them and just taking the tiny ones.

There are only community made schematics and board scans on the RetroSix Wikia free to download.
