there is some special magic in the camaraderie, passion and genuine nature of the doublefine team. Every interview and doc with these guys just feels so good - I know there must be some production work to shine it up a bit but I always catch myself feeling like I’m simultaneously enraptured at my favorite professor’s lecture as well as just shooting the shit with some friends every time I watch these people talk about games and game development. Thanks for giving us another nugget of the doublefine magic to savor ❤

Adventure games are NOT dead! Still, Broken Age is by far my favourite modern adventure game experience and gave me all that joy that classic LucasArts games gave me when I was a kid, which I then got to share with my nephews, and watch them get such joy out of its story-telling that I had not seen before from them! Broken Age also made me discover Double Fine games in general, which I've ended up loving, especially the Psychonauts series. Thank you, Tim, for writing most of my top 5 games of all time! I remember feeling so sad when I finished watching Double Fine Adventure, because I got the impression that the team had suffered a lot really unfairly in the making of it, when they had made something utterly wonderful that I felt so grateful for. I'm glad to see them have a more accurate picture of all its positives all these years later. Additionally, I'm also grateful to DFA for providing the spark that inspired me to make games, and end up working in the industry, where I couldn't be happier.

Damn. Hearing Anna talking about feeling like the toxic haters are all that's out there in the middle of making your game. That sounds terrible.. and I can imagine so many devs being in that position when the marketing goes bad or even when rumors fly or there are factors outside of their control - and they are powerless to change or challenge the narrative. Hmm. This was cool to see, especially after Psychodyssey released. Mm anyway. Hope Anna is happy in other places (and will quietly hope that she, and Greg too, have a place at DF if they ever want to come back - or perhaps at MS more broadly.. if they keep investing in AI and indie games). Looking forward to whatever the team comes out with next! And hope it's a little less stressful haha.

@Cyrribrae
@Cyrribrae Жыл бұрын
@@paulsmith9192 Nope, just the interview. Still at Google, I believe. Tim mentioned in one of the media things around Psychodyssey that he's always trying to get her back. Who knows how serious that is haha. And Greg is still at PlayStation AFAIK.

Thanks for gathering this beautiful group together again. Not only their work is inspiring, but also watching them speak about how relationships behind work are as or even more important than the game, its just a fantastic work philosophy. Love DoubleFine 🥰

I played Broken Age for the first time this year and it's truly a delightful game. Sadly for me, I wasn't smart enough to figure out the constant re-wiring gizmos puzzles in the second act, and so I was not able to beat the game. But thanks Double Fine team for making such a pleasant and enjoyable adventure up to that point, I had a great time.

Anna's insight is really interesting. I always felt the same as her: If only DF could be seen by more people they'd be huge. I used to post about that on the DF forums. But maybe she's right... DF was a cool niche band that wasn't going to break into the mainstream without a huge cultural wave. I don't know. I still love DF and it's so bizarre they became the centre of a dumping ground for the nonsense anomaly that was GamerGate...

DFA definitely helped enable a huge wave of crowd-funded, usually more niche games getting their chance to shine or even be made to begin with. I personally got some fantastic RPG's out of it, that I still replay to this day: Shadowrun, Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, and Tides of Numenara. What are some other fantastic games we got out of this wave?
