We should all know Jensen often changes the price of the GPUs he is about to announce at the last minute before going on stage. Nobody in Nvidia knows the final price yet. The standard mark up for a vendor (in the UK) is 25%, so a GPU won't be cheaper than its manufacturing cost plus that and VAT (20%). Nvidia's not going to reduce the price of their top cards because gamers choose not to buy them. They sell tiny numbers of these anyway, and if anything low sales are what makes the price high. VFX artists are going to buy them because they're a business expense, and as such it doesn't make much difference to them if it's $1500 or $2500 because this is a captive market. The top cards only a real product to that small segment of artists and affluent gamers who buy them, and their real function is a display of dominance that gives customers and investors that the future is with this brand. Profit from the 4090 and 5090 themselves is not the real play. If you don't like it, don't buy this brand at all and then you might see some change. But if people just settle for a 5080 or 5070, the brand is healthy and the top card did its job.

I could build another Threadripper, but 16 cores are fine for me, but if Threadrippers start coming with 3D cache, I'll probably step further up.

If someone buys 5080 for next few years they will definitely feel lack of VRAM. Today you should get GPU with atleast 10GB-12GB and we are talking about 1080p ultra or 1440p with high texture quality. Raytracing also uses a lot of memory.

I have a friend who I consider to be the "average consumer" He's the type of guy to buy that buys fallout 76 at release after hundreds of reviews said it was a buggy mess and not to buy it. His steam, Gog and Epic games libraries are full He's got an average job, making pretty good, but not amazing money. Now imagine him times a few million The average consumer will spend whatever amount is put in front of him. So the idea that the "consumer has the power" is laughable. My friend may not buy the 5090, But many other people will. Lets get real here

At the end of the video he asked what it should be worth. This is my answer. Not the scalping price I expect, but the charge this or I am not buying it price. Nvidia has failed to inovate since to 3000 series, if they dont want to put effort in, then why should I put my money in. I would prefer to wait for midrange cards to catch up. Nvidia is as bad a scalper as newegg has become.

Unfortunately it doesn’t matter if we vote with out wallets, because the 5090 will be scalped and botted for a year regardless of what we as normal consumers do. I have been out of the market for 8 years. I plan to get something high end and dip for another 10 or more. If I even manage to get anything that is.

I recently had to return my 3090 as it was faulty. I really was hoping it would last me for years, I wanted the 24gb vram for rendering. But now I have to upgrade 😔

The 5090 is not for gamers. It's the equivalent to the old Titan GPUs by Nvidia if you remember them. The Titan cards were aimed for businesses, that had to do with CGI development. And also they used to cost a crazy amount of money even back then. Like twenty years ago. If you noticed, Nvidia Titan cards don't exist anymore on the market. That doesn't mean they dissapeared. They're just under a different name, which makes gamers think these are made for games. A great marketing strategy by Nvidia, to make us think these are gaming cards and struggle to get one with our pitiful salaries. Of course if you bought a Titan back then, your games would run even better than the most high end gaming GPU, but did you? Nope. The flagship gaming GPUs are the 80 ones. Which ok, we all have to admit they're not cheap either.
