Well, I'd say give FSR 3.1 a chance, it's not that bad from WQHD up, or use Intel XeSS which can look pretty good on non-Intel, however, nVidia-sponsored titles tend to leave out these options recently (where's the outrage for that?) and leave AMD/Intel users with outdated, bad quality upscalers and THAT's something I hate having to deal with. As a poor person that could never afford anything new, I DON'T MIND having the short end of the stick and someone telling me "listen, we know you're on a 7 years old CPU and we'd love to have you with us but if we do anything to support your thing, we can't really do our thing". THAT'S FAIR GAME. The HUGE ISSUE is that games are ASS. Optimized like crap and now we have a channel also exposing graphical designers and how Unreal Engine at its core works and how it could be optimized to gain a lot of miliseconds from 1 action (of rendering) to another. This is not important but *CRITICAL.* If you told me you couldn't support my R5 2600 and I needed something faster starting on a 7600 (hypothetical), I wouldn't have an issue as long as you can be sure that if I got the 7600 or better, I'd be playing at 100+ fps constant no issues @ target resolution. But that isn't the case. Often times you have people with good CPUs and/or powerful GPUs struggling. And those are the people with availability in a good country, a Microcenter nearby, the economic capability and sometimes those who "upgrade" every year or every 2 years. What's left for the rest of us then? Edit: Like I don't give a chocolate fudge about "global illumination" and all those buzzwords, when you have 2009 games that look FANTASTIC. The enviornment looks good, the weather effects look good, the atmosphere is fantastic... and they didn't have all these technologies back then. And THAT is the biggest issue I think most of us have with the logic of "we need to move forward". In F1 analogy, sauber saying: "we need to move forward" and it's like well yes, your car barely moves. Start with having a decent enough car, then you can move forward.

Right on the money, Just replayed Detroit: Become Human (Such a great story) and the graphics are just stunning, apart from sometimes having low-poly low-resolution textures (noticed it maybe 5 times in 15h). Ran on my 2070 super + 10850k, locked at 60fps (highest cap) 1440p max settings and 2x render resolution and maybe 70-80% GPU utilization. With some modern hair, slightly higher texture and another higher poly count LOD level it easily beats most AAA games for looks and performs much better. Really shows the state of modern gaming. I hope GTA VI launches with great graphics and decent performance, otherwise I don't see this trend reversing. At this point I'm questioning if it's even worth upgrading to a faster GPU since most games eighter run and look fine or are UE5 slop. A 4090 should be for 8k 60, not 1080p 30. I sure hope Threat Interactive gets his message out. Thx for reading this absolute unit of a comment :)

Each game that comes out improves greatly on the environments, the scenery is beautiful and I can run it at 100fps with maximum graphics settings on my ARC A770. "Future-proofing" these RT days means you get the motherboard of a socket that has many years of CPU support ahead (so you can just upgrade CPU without changing mobo), and buy the latest and greatest GPU every few years and plonk it on the same mobo inside ur rig. As long as you're not buying into dead-end socket like the LGA1700 or AM4, you're future-proofing your rig. Getting 64GB of reasonably fast D5 RAM, large-enough NVMe SSD to hold & run your games & OS, a PSU with slightly more power than currently needed in order to leave room for growth, using a casing that can accomodate longer GPUs in future, etc. etc. are all factors worth considering future-proofing.

Developers know they have plenty of overhead based on the highest-level GPUs and CPUs, so as long as they hit target FPS it doesn't matter how optimized the code is. I wish we could go back to the time when developers had to optimize every line of code to fit into mere kilobytes.
@JustSomeGuy009Ай бұрын
@@BrianWelch-ks9msI'd argue the reason has a lot more to do with shifting from bespoke implementations to solve your games needs. Now everyone has shifted to just turning on whatever UE5 provides. Doesn't matter if it doesn't even make sense for the game. The old tried and true methods that worked to make exceptional looking rasterized games are now being deemed to time intensive and so developers flick a few switches in UE5 and call it a day. Leading to actually worse visuals because they take no time to fit the out of the box solutions for their games needs AND worse performance because these new systems are still extremely immature vs the older established methods. I also think that a lot of the talent in dev studios have become younger and the knowledge of the older methods has been lost (game engines like UE5 do a bad job with them out of the box as well). Further fueled by the combination of young people and tech people that love to use the new cutting edge stuff (they think it's cool) regardless of it's actually ready for prime time or not. It's the same thing that happened on the IT space a few years ago where everyone was pushing "containerization" over full virtualization for everything because it seems so new and cool without any thought if it was ready or even made sense for the use case. This is the first video I've ever downvoted Jay on because he obviously made a video based off of specs and not testing for himself. I left a main comment out there, but my older build from 2020, i9 9900k, 2070 super, 32 gigs of ram. I am running above minimum settings, and steam streaming to my Intel NUC at my TV because it's a laid back game and I don't need to be at my desk for this one. And the quality is great and there is no lag. I bet I can increase certain settings. I just need to find the time to sit down at my desk doing tests. But the game looks so good as it is that I haven't been worried about it.

It isn’t a matter of devs just being lazy. There are much bigger issues at play having to do with corporate greed and capitalism as a whole. NVME speeds do not matter that much in gaming. They are typically doing random access and not sequential. Even a SATA SSD will likely only be 10-15 seconds behind a gen4 NVME in game loading and less during actual gaming. SATA just isn't as cost efficient as it used to be. You should do a video on this.

yea would be interesting to see a video on that, i'm still running sata SSD's. Barely notice a difference on systems I've build with Gen3/Gen4 SSD's, maybe a few seconds here or there but nothing really major, not even texture loading (then again I have OS and Games on separate SSDs) That said NVMe PCI SSD's are indeed more cost effective, and saves on the velcro stash in SSF builds that require 3.5" HDDs still.

Last game forcing me to upgrade was Battlefield 2 back in the early 2000s when I had to get a discrete graphics card. After that I always just built my PC using the x70 or x80 series from Nvidia, and now the x950 or x900 series from AMD GPUs and a processor that can handle just about anything paired with about double the recommended RAM for the time frame. The last piece of software that really forced me to upgrade was Blender when I wanted to upgrade from DDR3 RAM and a 4960K processor that would lock up and have long render times to a work station CPU and 2080 GPU. I'm still using that same computer, the only major change other than cooling systems I've made over the years is the new GPU I bought recently. The rest of the system is still solid. I didn't get the GPU because of any specific thing, I just wanted the VRAM on a 7900xtx for some projects I'm working on that use GPU acceleration and more VRAM is better. The beauty of using a workstation processor 6 years ago when I built my PC is that I still don't have a major bottleneck when going to this newer GPU that is ~3-4 generations newer than when I built the whole system. My next PC will likely use whatever consumer grade work station CPU I can get my hands on, 128 GB of DDR5 RAM at the fastest speed a quad channel board for that CPU can handle, and this same GPU I just bought. I'll even recycle the cooling system and just buy a new CPU block for the system and keep using the same pump/reservoir and radiators only doing maintenance on them since they still work. The oldest thing I have in my computer is mass storage being on spinning disks even though I now have a lot of SSDs attached that do most of the data storage. I'll probably get rid of those in the next build and go to SATA SSDs as the primary "slow" storage and large capacity NVMe drives as the primary boot, working data, and highly accessed drives. Building a PC this way does cause the whole system to cost a lot more upfront, but the longevity so far has outweighed the cost of building multiple "gaming" desktops while still letting me play games and do work on the same PC.

I'm gonna come right out and say it: we shouldn't have completely upgrade our systems, especially if you like me and have hardware not even 5 years old, just to play a new game, that is already overpriced, at 100+ fps. To be honest, were at a place in time where there are SO MANY great games to play, that you don't need the latest tech to enjoy gaming anymore... I think it's fine NOT to be able to play EVERY game due to hardware feature constraints. RT-cards have been on shelves for 5-6 years by now (That's a whole console generation back in the days), and this is literally the first time that games start to require those feature sets. Personally I think that's okay, consumers have been given a 5 year transitional period to new tech... With that being said, I kind of hate how games look these days; Unreal Engine in particular, with its noisy fx pipeline, forcing game developers to rely on soft and smeary temporal AA (or upscalers) to clean up a less-than-stellar-rendering. Compare that to Source2 which is super clean image properties, has great pre-rendered RT global illumination, fantastic material qualities, reflections and water rendering using normal rasterization... Personally I would want to see more games made in that engine instead of UE5. 🤷

@electricnick260Ай бұрын
In my opinion, games that require RT hardware for engine based things that aren't RT are actually a good thing. We've been getting products pushed at us for a few years now with features that we almost never actually use. RT cores on most people's graphics cards have probably laid dormant since the day the card was first installed. There's still a ton of games that don't utilize the hardware at all. If the new Indiana Jones game and other games that follow are utilizing those RT cores to render the game more efficiently, thus having significantly better performance, then that is overall a good thing. If anything, *developers* should be pushing AMD, Nvidia, and Intel to include RT cores in ALL GPUs going forward, even iGPUs. This should be something used to put pressure on the manufacturers to make the hardware more widely available, rather than making people angry because they're being forced into unreasonably priced components.
@elk3407Ай бұрын
Exactly! We should be using RT cores and mesh shaders on all games. Sure it locks out older cards, but anyone with cards that support them (pretty much everything that came out in the past 5-6 years) will get better performance
@ambientlightofdarknesss4245Ай бұрын
@@elk3407agreed. Making RT a STANDARD instead of it being an option you tick if you paid premium will only benefit consumers. It's how all brand new graphics tech worked. The last "RT" crazy was tesselation. And every dev implemented that into their game it became standard, and most gamers probably don't even know what Tesselation means!
@BlanckOneАй бұрын
I 100% agree on this take. Of course you'll always have people mad bc "My 7 year old hardware can't run the newest games" but this is how industries grow and evolve. Those RT cores should be used to do something more than pretty reflections that I can turn off.

@@BlanckOne what makes it funny to me is that I'm personally one of the people locked out of playing games like this because my only working PC is a laptop with a Pentium n4200. But I would honestly rather be told by a developer "without this specific hardware in your PC, this game will not work correctly so we're not gonna ruin your experience by letting your stupid ass download it anyway," than to be given the chance to download a game thinking "oh I can just drop it to minimum settings, maybe mod some textures, and it'll work just fine," only to be sorely disappointed. I'll eventually upgrade to a better PC, and when I do, I'd like the games I play to actually take advantage of ALL of the hardware in it. I'd like to see the same thing happen with all of these "AI cores" Intel and Qualcomm keep pushing in their mobile processors. Make those cores actually do something useful to make the device run smoother, rather than giving me useless gimmicks I might look at twice and then disable for the rest of the device's lifetime.
