Couldn't agree more. It is great to hear the chat with the option to mute if it gets too much. Xbox got it very wrong when they allowed people's own rooms and no more in game chat. One of the best times I had was on the original Xbox playing Project Gotham Racing where everybody was chatting and having a laugh as it was encouraged. Very different these days.

Voice chat in iRacing shows full strength in oval racing. There is everything: blaming each other for crash; cooperating when trying to chase the leaders; letting the other driver know there is room for him in the line; casual chat while driving behind pace car for 3rd time during the race. Great stuff.

As a new iracer of approximately 9 months, i have met some very nice people who i enjoy/look forward to racing with on a regular basis. I've also received set ups from a few of them to help me better compete. I love the arguments, how some people feel the need to break down every instance of contact and assign blame. The only thing that gets under my skin personally is the driver who makes contact or dumps you from behind, then goes on to blame you for the contact 😂. Interesting topic and very well presented.

Yeah agree. It can be terrible at times, but i always have it on. Had a guy literally crying because he had been crashed out of all his week 13 races. Tried to cheer him up. Love when people praise each other after a race, thats wholesome..

I agree. I find it weird that some people dislike audio chat. Tip for newcomers: The best audio chat is found in oval racers. The oval racers are much more fun to chat with and a lot less toxic. I guess it comes from them having more time to chit chat during caution periods. Or maybe it's just that our American buddies who don't know how to turn right are more friendly.

I find the people who dont use voice chat the worst drivers they're the ones who just hit you and don't apologize. Just keep driving like nothing happened. The people with voice chat we communicate what our moves are going to be and are apologetic for the most part when mistakes are made

No voice chatter here - Short answer, games just aren’t a social event for me generally. I’ll happily race ai frequently, sometimes even prefer it, but there is a difference between online and not, and I still value the racing online and seeing real people responding to situations. But games/driving is my me time, and some times my me time happens to be multiplayer gaming, which is fun for sure, but when I hear people popping off, it annoys me enough that I’d generally rather ignore it all together. Ultimately my goal is to race my race/play my game, and enjoy my solitude. On top of that, because I’m just not emotionally compelled enough to deal with people who get so angry at it, or want to try to be funny by harassing people or whatever. So while I certainly miss out on some opportunities because of abstaining, it makes my game time so consistently enjoyable that I'm more than happy side stepping it.

lol I’ve only just started sim racing this last week. I was legit raging on chat an hour ago haha I love it. It was a racing incident and first corner so wasn’t too fussed just annoyed. But then later in the race I had a dude over take me then jabbed me with his rear wheel and took me out. I watch the replay and straight after he rammed into a crash he could have avoided then pushed someone off track then rammed into another person which then made me take out the guy he pushed off the track. I’m proud to say my first protest is a legit protest. Just hope others have done the same. No excuse for a bad race to be making others’ bad.

Couldn’t agree more. VC is far more helpful than annoying. And there’s a mute button so anyone complaining about it means nothing. Idk who you guys are racing with? I find probably 90% of my voice chats positive. People asking for help or apologizing for an incident. I also think it makes for cleaner racing. Makes things more personal and people behave better when things are more personal

So true. When they start getting angry at you, you know that you have what they want. And that is the position they struggle to get. It’s usually them flashing their at me when they are actually losing on me. That doesn’t make sense. When they flash you and they are behind you every corner, then obviously let them pass. Because they quit often crash next corner anyways.

Did you forgot about PROXIMITY CHAT on Assetto Corsa? ... That it's used in many servers, you can voice chat with the cars in your proximity. And the voice it's coming from the location of the car that you are chatting with, spatial audio. It's a mod created about 2 years ago. I though that you were a AC hardcore fan, lol. So, sorry, iRacing THE ONLY RACE SIM with voice chat? ... nop

Nothing more chill then flooring it with a bunch of Yanks that are drinking their Bud Lights from the cupholders in their racing rigs :D But also, its just useful, dipping my toe into dirt oval now, and i ask "What steering ratio do you use" and EVERYONE was on 4:1 instead of 6:1 that i had.. i switched and got 5th instantly :P

Having a voice chat makes all the difference. Without voice chat it's racing against anonymous drivers, they could just as well have been AI drivers. I find online racing without voice chat much less fun, in our community we always race with voice chat. We don't race in iRacing, but in Assetto Corsa and use Discord for the voice chat. Works well too. That makes me wonder what the point of this video is. As if iRacing is the only racing sim that allows you to race with voice chat. That's not the case at all, it can be done with any racing sim, but you have to use Discord as well. We already use that to contact each other. Then an extra click for the voice chat isn't such a problem. And yes, just joining a random server is usually without voice chat. But just joining a server is also less personal and therefore less fun.

Driver chat was literally a thing in NASCAR. Also useful in Miatas because you don't have hand signals vs being like "bump trainnnnn" Also dweeb, it's technically a radio system that you can set channels between teams and/or your spotter. If you get out of rookies it's usually pretty hilarious, but you won't get that from watching compilations
