@GamerMuscleVideos Жыл бұрын
@@nuu3085 yep you can play any sim with no FFB if you want to and just memorize what you can and can't do. @Litl_Skitl Жыл бұрын
Funny thing what you've said about the grip is that 17psi is fairly underpressured for the MX-5. I forgot for Brands but the pressure for Laguna is like 20psi. That might also play a part in why it feels like you have less grip. Also wrong alignment in stock setup.
@GamerMuscleVideos Жыл бұрын
@@Litl_Skitl AC is like that with all cars though relatively speaking even with optimum track grip and perfect car setup. I think it's why lots of people that don't play AC much think of it as being sloppy and understeery compared to iracing , as they are used to more initial bite and more lift off oversteer and turn in from brake before the car is on the tires. They also ignore FFB and go into corners too hot and because of how you have to drive in iracing they don't know you can get the car onto the tires and then things actually drive as if you have more grip than iracing.

I bet you could race using guitar hero guitar or a dancing mat if you tried hard enough. And it could run on a total potato while still looking like it released last year on a good machine. I drive a Maserati Gransport in real life, and often hard. My experience is that reality is sometimes snappier than AC, but if you react quickly, easily caught. AC is pretty good. I got to rent a base 2016 mustang GT and rip it around Mosport DDT this summer. Recently i downloaded a mod for that track and drove around Kunos's 2015 mustang, and i want to say its about 85% accurate when on street tires. Terminal understeer on corner entry, easily oversteers on corner exit, soft and wallowy through elevation changes, and it can easily smash every single curb on track. However, the AC car has suspension thats a bit stiffer; there was more body roll irl. The same day as the mustang, i also rented a 991 gt3 RS, and of course i also tried it on AC as well after the fact. This car was 70% as accurate. The reason for the greater inaccuracy was the irl car had 4 wheel steering which was easily felt on the tight slow speed corners, which was amazing because it made the car feel so much shorter than it was, and the great tcs which i could feel braking individual wheels through a few of the corners. On my test drive, if i was able to turn off all the assists im sure the AC model would be a bit closer to the real life counterpart.

I can't limit my driving to work within the confines of a physics engine, or rather keep it from going beyond the limits of the physics. Maybe there's good physics within those limits, but at the edge of grip and beyond, there's no realistic physics, if any at all. When I start performance driving a real car, I always push it into oversteer and understeer so I know its limits. I'm not really testing a car unless I'm making the tires chirp and squeal. Then in a competitive situation, I know if I can push the car outside of grip and if I can bring it back, as that may give me an advantage. in iRacing, you can't do that.

It's so much fun, to just take a joy cruise on the highway, move to the side and let loose the engine hearing the turbo roar into work and moving through traffic, before letting off the throttle and settling in again. I got the Thrustmaster TX wheel and all though i don't have a drivers license, your comparison to go-karts struck right. In both AC and when driving Go-karts you do feel in the wheel where the limit of the tires are, and you can adjust as need be. Solid video mate. Cheers and all that, stay safe ye ? :)

Great video mate, level headed overview and I enjoyed watching you go through that process. All I read lately are mid 40's guys on sim racing facebook groups that swear by iRacing and call assetto a "game" etc. I'm trying to get into iRacing, really giving it every chance to like it, but finding it very difficult. I'm a fast IRL driver, fast driver in assetto with tons of wins on LFM, and hopped in the Miata on iracing to compare and its just mind boggling. Where is the feeling? The first time I drove assetto it was incredible, the way the weight transfers and the tires load up and how you can slide the car felt just like I was driving my car in real life. iRacing any little slide greases the tires, you can't control it. NO forcefeed back feel.. its insane

The biggest head scratcher for me is how Kunos went from AC FFB to ACC FFB and called that progress. I understand that ACC FFB may be "more like a real GT3 car", and that's fine, but I'm not actually driving a GT3 car in my simrig - I'm driving a simulator which is missing the fundamental G forces of a GT3 car - among other things! ACC FFB just feels baron to me compared to just about every other simulator's FFB. ACC just seemed to miss the point of what FFB is for. rF2 still has the best FFB. Pity it's a nightmare in almost every other aspect.
@Simlife101 Жыл бұрын
@RubberStig it's running on a different game engine so it was never going to feel the same neither will AC2 for that fact. Its like playing cod then switching too CSGO they feel completely different due to the game engines being different

I even struggled with the FFord in iRacing, sure I can drive it, but it just never feels like I'm in control, and I spun a few times. And every year the story is the same. Try this car now, it is much better.. But I've never had a good connection with iRacing at all, I just don't understand it. Thankfully AC and AMS combined (when there is a sale) cost the same as one month of iRating.

Interesting take on the FFord in iRacing.. there's an IRL race driver on Twitch that got up to F2, and he keeps saying how realistic the Ford is compared to what he drove. Driver is Emil Bernstorff (www.twitch.tv/emilbernstorff)

100% agree. On both ACC and AC I can feel the weight transfer and grip level better - as you say, it’s intuitive. In my experience the trick is to keep damping and/or minimum force low on mid range wheels so that this transition isn’t drowned out by the cornering force. When I put up damping it feels more like a real car but if it steps out I can’t feel it and generally spin, whereas with low damping the wheel feels a bit light in a straight line but I know the instant grip changes in the corners. Personal preference I guess
@GamerMuscleVideos9 ай бұрын
You can't feel the limit of grip in ACC that's just suspension compression , ACC has no dynamic range for the limit. You can test it by doing a long corner with car loaded up on one side and then go on and off the accelerator and you will see the car wash out with no change to FFB , outside of the track texture / bumps coming through FFB. ACC has a more forgiving tire model than iracing at the limit , but it has less dynamic FFB for the limit than iracing. Once you notice this it totally ruins ACC , you have to drive both ACC and iracing in the same robotic way of memorizing what the car does and then driving entirely preemptively , where as AC allows you to drive in the moment. But yah AC1 is on another level

I loaded a very old mod of a jag prototype that would break the axle and collapse it, but the wheels would still spin. I slid into a wall sideways. Somehow, the rear wheels got pushed into the car and set at 90 degrees. I stepped on the gas and the car started to spin like a top, leaving circular skidmarks like doodles all over the road. The wheels really do propel the car.

I find your videos useful. I started sim racing just 1 year ago. I don't know iRacing as I totally disagree on the business model so it's not even an option. I barely know AC but when tested I preferred ACC FFB, and I possibly prefer RaceRoom / RFactor2 FFB. One thing though that I consider embarassing in iRacing is contact net code. Embarassing to see cars not even close one another take off in the air...With what you paty for iRacing you can get ACC, AC, RFactor 2, Race Room and if you like taking off in the air you can add Flight Simulator...

Good video and I'm glad you liked AC as its still my favourite sim after 5 years of driving it. I also have ACC, AMS1&2, Raceroom, Project Cars 2 and an updated GTR2 and also spent time with rFactor2, which I didn't get on with. It seems that SIMS are subjective and open to personal interpretation as well as conditioning. In 2023 I spent a couple of months driving Raceroom only and I enjoyed it. However, when I went back to AC, I was hopeless as it's just different. After a couple of weeks on AC, driving Raceroom feels odd and I'm slow again...... I don't have an idea about what's good or bad but suspect that when you find a SIM that you're comfortable with, then stick to it rather than jumping between several (which I'm guilty of). Be a master of one, rather than a tradesman of several!!

I think the biggest thing AC FFB communicates is the yaw moment or rotation the car is undergoing. It's probably a slight opposite torque that increases with the yaw moment. Also a good experiment to see the difference with added effects to FFB is to try the unmodified custom, default and default plus profiles on Ams2. The first is just based on steering rack forces and the other ones add more effects based on car dynamics
@GamerMuscleVideos Жыл бұрын
Yah AMS2 / project cars 2 ablity to actually let you fully customize FFB is a great way to help one understand how different FFB / ways of generating FFB can affect the driving experience.

So I know that the code for iRacing is built off of Papyrus Racing's NASCAR Racing games. As far as a stock car racing sim, those games are easily my favorite. But there is one major issue I find with those games, and it has to do with the tire feel you allude to throughout this video. It's very possible to find the edge of the grip and hold the car there through a corner in those Papy games. But it feels, for lack of better term, extremely dangerous to keep pushing to that limit. So, as you mentioned, you instead feel the need to "under-drive" the car in order to keep it under you. And if you exceed that limit, there's basically no way to save the damn car. This is not how cars react irl. Between tire flex, tire temp, and track temp, a real car may step over the limit, but a skilled driver can feel this, adjust, and bring the car back within the limit. Assetto Corsa has found that breaking point and allows players to walk that line with confidence. The only sim I've played that has it more figured out is rFactor 2, and... I mean... that's the best tire model in any driving game, period. Between the game's build and available mods, AC has become my favorite driving/racing simulator ever. Bar none. Race car drivers don't tiptoe race cars around a course. They push to 98% of the limit every corner. A simulator should recreate this sensation well enough that you KNOW when you're not pushing, and going a little too hard in a corner isn't a death sentence. Whether you're setting a hot lap on the limit or you like to throw a car sideways through a corner, AC has the physics figured out to where controlling your car is natural and intuitive. Now if only they could fix online racing... I'm so tired of only having 3 competitive drivers in a lobby with me and getting absolutely reamed in T1 by someone who forgot which pedal is the brake.

Nice to finally see someone being honest about the Iracing/AC comparison. Yes AC is a great sim with a large driver base. The mod scene is insane too. Loads of free stuff of which some are very good. True, you need to find a good League, but even those are abundantly available.

@SchotteJ7 ай бұрын
tl;dr: I like the ffb in iRacing, but I don't think iRacing is worth the money. The thing is that what you're feeling in iRacing is what you would actually feel from the steering wheel in a car, which is not much indeed, but realistic. To explain why, I'd have to go into explaining the physics, but if you really want to know, you can find an explanation on Niels Heusinkveld's channel. In most other sims you also get a simulated seat of the pants (g-forces) feeling in the steering wheel, which will give you a bit more awareness of what the car is doing, but it's unrealistic and in my opinion also a bit distracting. I started driving in real life a long time before sim-racing, and the way iRacing is doing it, just feels right, to me. Then again I hate the pay-to-play arrangement with iRacing, on top of having to buy each and every little extra piece of content, too. So, I don't play it anymore, either.
@GamerMuscleVideos7 ай бұрын
Yes I have talked with Neil's about this In reality you can sometimes feel lots from the wheel and other times not. Iracing actually has a moderate amount of info from it's ffb , the problem is it can only reflect the tire physics which are really not very good. With tires getting stuck over limit in over heated state.

Kunos aren't mental.. they are Italian... 😇🤣 You're mostly telling me now, what I've been trying to tell you for years... 17:28 AC default setups are on the soft spungy and safe side... but you can setup your rear diff and toe and caster for a more reactive car... But you can then still feel what the tires are doing.. The problem with the tire model is that Iracing (Iceracing) was build on the GPL engine.. which had the same issue... and is also almost 25-ish years old now... I like to streetrace with traffic in AC a lot... Shutoko Revival Project is an awesome map for running with traffic and friends.. and with a bit of server modding you can race online with friends through AI traffic... Even thinking about it I can't get the grin of my face... And I've always been telling you FFB in AC is great.. for the driving experience.. I run in VR and sometime I forget I'm not actually in a car... And I actually start feeling acceleration and deceleration g-forces.. My brain just feels like it's floating forward if I'm braking... It's not, but it's the same thing as when you're in a train and the train next to you pulls out of the station... you get the sensation of going backwards (depending on you seating position)

I tend to prefer AC for it being "more arcade" and for HUGE modding support. iRacing more hardcore yes for sure
@GamerMuscleVideos9 ай бұрын
I think iracing is more arcade as it doesn't support basic driving at the limit. The tires get stuck as soon as you do a moderate slide or push onto the limit so you can only ever drive in a premptive way , or into a one direction power slide. Basically iracing doesn't support one of the most basic aspects of car control. You should watch the official SR10 iracing video of the in-game SR10 and the real SR10 it's hilarious how clearly it demonstrates iracing tire model issues.
