To be fair Pilates is a broad term. This is reformer Pilates and is a lot more intense (and expensive) than just like mat Pilates

These particular machines are called Reformers. There's more equipment, such as barrels, a stability chair, a Cadillac, and others. The fact that they all resemble torture devices is not a coincidence. 😊

Like the other comments said, the video was showing off the most intimidating parts of one of the more brutal types of pilates for the sake of the content. But besides the weird looking torture rack things, the fundamentals of pilates is actually more about breathwork, and learning how to use your body to create stability so the task that you're trhing to do is easier. And obviously you don't need an entire torture rack to learn those sorts of things, so there are also less hardcore versions of pilates like mat/floor pilates, chair pilates, wall pilates, etc. So if you were thinking about trying pilates, I do think it would be beneficial to at least try it for yourself once or twice. This video had them doing intermediate level reformer pilates, but there are also a bunch of videos here on youtube going over beginner's pilates that you can do at home on a mat or just the floor, and are typically 15-30 minute workouts. And if you do at least wanna try it out, I've personally found that the channel Flow with Mira seems to be very beginner friendly on the workout intensity, and explains the theory and fundamentals pretty well. So if this video is the thing that scared you off from pilates and you're willing to give it a second look, I would ask that you go and at least skip around one of the beginner's pilates videos on her channel to see if it's something a little more manageable and/or to your liking. I personally hated the typical gym setup and also the pose-iness(?) of yoga, and so I avoided exercising a lot until I found out I liked pilates. Then again, it might not be your cup of tea, but I do think it's at least worth a shot to figure out whether it'd be something you'd actually consider. Apologies if this came off a bit preachy though, and no matter what you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Hey scarra, im so proud of you for making changes, its really hard to do and i was really nervous going to the doctors and getting help when i was big, and this motivates me so much. I hope you know how much this helps people especially other people with diabetes. I believe in you, you got this. My dads had diabetes since he was 20 and he went off his medication a few years ago (hes 49 now) and has been free of all side effects for a while. You can do it ❤and if you feel like it can you share your fitness journey because im very excited to watch you work and go through this journey, if there’s anyway we can support you let us know ❤
