I know this is painfully mainstream but: the *ending to FFX* broke my heart. Not just for what happens because you care about the characters and such, but because I related to it so much. "...I have to go. I'm sorry I couldn't show you Zanarkand." "No! (her face when she's on the floor... just hits me) ... I love you." @satyasyasatyasya57465 жыл бұрын
@@marhawkman303 Even with the official Piggyback guide, I just wasn't good enough to 100% FFX-2. It was always a 97% game for me haha but I did get the FMV where Tidus comes back (just not the in-game scene at Zanarkand). I actually like FFX-2, its colourful, campy, playful, some of the music is great but I didn't like it as much as FFX and some of the mini-games make me want to kill myself and I become seriously angry because I'll never be able to do them right or whatever. As for the end, I wasn't too interested in Wakka haha but I did cry, the music is great and its nice that Yuna could be with him again, but I can't help but wonder if they had gone for a more serious tone and changed the game a little, it could have been very interesting to have Tidus never come back. The game could be about closure and moving on, or learning to accept grief and loss. She could triumph in other ways. I guess there aren't many games where you or the main character *don't* get what you/they want in the end. Having said that, it is great to see a character go so far and change. Its a little odd at times and tonally inconsistent but yeh, I appreciate the game. Yuna is a great character and in some ways I do buy her friendship with the other girls and its also notable that she never feels as if she "just can't cope" without Tidus. She wants him back sure, she'll go to the ends of Spira for him sure, but there is an ending and even a *choice* not to have Tidus back and I think that's actually quite powerful. She's a person in her own right, not just "the girl" at a man's side who would be/is the real star. She can do fine without him, and she will if you get the basic endings. In a twist of cliches, the man is the reward for the woman in the game haha

Kingdom hearts birth by sleep for me. That was my first kh game. I was innocent and new, just coming in for some good ol’ disney, wanting to see how mickeymouse blended with an action rpg which I thought looked way too good for a psp game. I grew attached to all the 3 main characters. Wonky, forced interactions and everything. I started caring for them. I wanted to see them be together again. And then the ending came. I played ven first, thought “wait what? That’s it? That’s his end? That’s how it ends? What? No!” I was in total denial. Figured playing through the next two character stories would let me know what happens to ven. I played terra next. Not only did I get no closure on ven, I saw terra go through a bad end too. “Alright, aqua is my last hope now”. NOPE. I was hopeful when I finished her story, but the final story just made it all worse. Honestly, for a guy who was treating khbbs as a standalone game (didn’t know about the rest of the games at the time) I had no idea how to take it all in. This could not be how their story ends. And then I saw the blank points cutscene. That’s how I realized there might be more to this story. That this boy sora might save them all. And that also became my hook to the series.
@darknesswave1005 жыл бұрын
Honestly when you look at birth by sleep nobody gets a good ending. Terra gets his body stolen by xehanort and is left as a husk that becomes the lingering will. Ven gets his heart shattered into pieces after fighting vanitas. Then aqua who's like a big sister to both terra and ven does all she can to get them both back only to sacrifice herself to try and save terra which in the end was all for nothing. Game hits you three times hard

Final Fantasy X. Towards the end, you start to see all the pieces of the puzzle coming together as you learn about Zanarkand, Sin, and the Fayth. And it dawns on you that something is going to happen to Tidus. But something gives you hope - you're going to defeat Sin in a way that it's never been defeated before; maybe the Fayth is wrong? You've spent dozens if not hundreds of hours falling in love with Spira and its characters and you're so invested in seeing their happily ever afters. So, you go on. You crush Seymour for the last time (AAAAND *STAY* DOWN), then you go through the heart-wrenching scene where Tidus and Jecht meet. You beat Jecht. You beat your own aeons, who you've come to cherish as pets. You beat Yu Yevon. You beat Sin. Then, it happens. The music - which throughout the last few boss encounters has been an epic headbanging symphony with a freakin' heavy metal climax - is stripped away to just a few notes on the piano, climbing upwards but never resolving, mirroring the longing in Yuna's eyes as she watches Tidus fade away into nothing. She's selflessly dedicated her entire life to serving and protecting the people of Spira, never allowing herself so much as a few selfish seconds to watch a sunset she knows could be her last. She's done everything that was asked of her and more, and now she has to watch the one thing she wants for herself disappear before her eyes. I'll never get tired of watching it. What a way to end a story.
@marhawkman3035 жыл бұрын

Fallout 4. Not the storyline, but the Environmental Storytelling. The particular one that got me was Big Al’s Salvage Yard. The guy built himself a fallout shelter from a buried train, got his family down there when the bombs dropped and they seemed to be safe. There’s a radio on repeat, calling out for help as the generator has shut off and vacuum-sealed the door shut. They’re running out of oxygen but can’t open the door themselves to restart the jenny. When you get down there, you find two small graves, and two skeletons holding eachother on the bed. One thing Bethesda does very well is environmental storytelling

I've mentioned this before as well, but - the end of Grim Fandango. The wonderful camaraderie, love and stories coming together, seeing good endings, saying goodbye and so incredibly bittersweet. I cried a long time after that, but in a good way. :)

I think the first game that definitely broke my heart was Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. It was my first FF7 game and I wasn't really expecting that ending. R.I.P. Zack Fair. He deserved better. Was also and still saddened that Zack and Aerith never got to atleast see each other again.

That game ruined gaming for me for a long time... and I still think other games to this day are playing catch up and have not caught up....RDR2 Beautiful, but boring, Horizon zero dawn great game, visually stunning and a good storyline, but did not leave the lasting impression TW3 did...although I think a sequel will prove an 'Equiler'. TW4 announcement is going to blow minds, and us 'over 40' gamers are gonna be at the front of the que. Why? CDPR Get how to tell a story at an adult level.......unlike certain other tripe OW games I could mention......

"There is something under the Sea" was a viral game and was part of the marketing campaign for Bioshock 2. Basically the game was based on puzzles and a lot of reading. Mark Metzer is trying to find his lost child (that got captured by a Big Sister) Mark end's up getting captured by Sofia so, Lamb gives Mark the choice to either be executed or be reunited with Cindy as her protector Big Daddy. Mark chose to become a Big Daddy in order to remain with Cindy, which was all that he wanted, during the end of the game your character Subject Delta, stumbles just across a random little sister and Big Daddy, you do your thing only to find out that you just killed Mark and Cindy. :-(

Although it's getting old now; Beyond Two Souls still makes me sob. Also, the end of Yakuza 6 because you watch the characters grow through the series and you know its all over. Happy tears though but still sad that it ended!

Beyond Two Souls needs more love. People still talk about Heavy Rain which is also great and Detroit Become Human cause it's newer and also great but Jodie's story was so compelling. And yeah it pulls some weird stuff out of nowhere but eh it's David Cage you just gotta expect that.

The gaming moment that most sticks out in my mind comes from Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. For those who don't know it's an air force game series held in the fantasy world of Strangreal. You play as Blaze captain of the Wardog Squadron turned Demons of Razgriz later on in the game. Your Squad members consist of Edge: the smartest woman on the force, Archer: the rookie who was forced into the skies by an attack on your base but decided to remain in your squad, and Chopper: overly confident dudemanbro from the late 80s/90s who never grew out of his dude phase. Chopper stands as the comic relief for half of the battles until one mission which was supposed to just be a simple flyby of a stadium during an important speech when AWACS Thunderhead detects potentially hostile blibs on their radar. Long story short at some point Chopper is hit and his jet malfunctions to the point he has to put it down in the center of the stadium to save as many lives as possible, however his ejection seat won't deploy...so he has to go down with it...

Dave - to romance any one in ME2 just talk to them in between main missions as much as possible in between missions while on the Normandy. Right when you go through the Omega Relay you will be able to romance when they come up to you. Mass Effect is one of my favorite series. I have the plat on all four games on my old account and just got the plat on ME2 and working on MEA now on my new account.

Spider-Man PS4 was probably the only time a game made me cry. I know it's been out for a while, but I'm trying to not spoil as much as I can. If you don't know what happens then go in as blind as possible because it's easy to infer what happens even when I'm being vague. It wasn't even just the death at the end, that was when the dam broke, but the scene between the villain and Peter after the fighting is done is just heart-wrenching. The acting is phenomenal, they just nailed the emotion. The whole ending was tragic because it really could have been avoided, but because of who the characters are it couldn't have ended any other way.

The end cutscene in Yakuza 0 where Majima encounters Makimura Makoto but doesn't speak to her so she never knows who he is. That sacrifice really hit me for some reason - he spends the whole game trying to save her and falls in love, then when she's free and able to see again he decides she's better without him and doesn't let her know him... boom D:

I too get attached to characters if it’s a good story and after I am done I get what I like to call “post game depression.” Then it seems to take me forever to find another game to play. It’s like I’m not ready to move on yet, so I’ll play games with no chance of attachment until I’m ready to take on another character’s story..
