The violence in video games discussion always drives me crazy. People seem to think that kids can’t distinguish a difference between fantasy violence and real violence, whether it’s in games, movies, music or any other form of art. Guess what, they can. There is far more traumatic violence in nature than what you see in games. Clearly no one on this show is a hunter or spends much time with nature. Teach your kids right from wrong ; a video game isn’t going to over rule the values you’ve taught them.
@Psycoholic20086 жыл бұрын
You can teach your kid all you want, it doesn't stop them from making bad choices when they grow up. You'd be surprised the type of people that become thieves, drug addicts, or violent criminals. It isn't as black and white as simple "teach them right from wrong".
@TeamTigerBloods6 жыл бұрын
Psycoholic2008 of course it’s not simple. That’s why putting the onus of moral upbringing on video games is preposterous. Making a bad decision isn’t the same as knowing right from wrong. I’m suggesting that people, including kids, know the difference between shooting a gun in a video game and shooting a gun in real life; and that they have vastly different consequences.
@kdkseven6 жыл бұрын

So I love the side quests for God of war because they featured a lot of lore and didn't feel very video gamey (if that makes sense), it felt like it made sense in the environment, I haven't played red dead but from what I've seen it also makes a lot of sense too where the side quests could actually happen in an environment like that and it doesn't seem video gamey, I love spider man but the side quests made it very apparent that I was playing a video game, for example the swinging through the gas clouds or the trying to track down pigeons made it feel like they input video game aspects heavily where as other things like randomly hearing about a crime happening in the area felt like a legit spiderman world and you got to save the day.

I’m with Daemon. When I was 3 I was already introduced to Mortal Kombat; but outside of fighting games the first time I played a game that I shouldn’t have been was GTA San Andreas when I was 11 and Halo at 12. Then I didn’t play video games at all in high school. I had a bit of a temper, but I wasn’t even playing video games around that time and it was easily identifiable to family history. Sadly I’d have to say that I don’t think a pre-teen could appreciate something like God of War though for anything than just being cool.
@cjgibsononline6 жыл бұрын
Agree with your last line for sure. Part of me wants him to play it just because of the awareness of the game right now. He’s definitely what I would call an “old soul” so I’m good with him playing it. It’s kind of like the Simpson Season 1-8 in the 90’s. They were culturally relevant when I was really young. I’m glad my parents let me watch it at the time. It was seen as a very risqué show 30 years ago. As a parent the jokes land in totally new light vs when I was young... but it’s cool to have both perspectives.

I'm probably one of the few people on earth who bought/and still owns his Atari Jaguar, 64. Although, the marketing was erroneous - it was a 32 bit system as a processor, with 64 bit memory. Still some pretty decent games on there. Rayman, Tempest 2000, Dino Dudes, Ultra Vortex, Alien vs Predator, Cybermorph, Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy. The library was extremely short, though.

I really loved both RDR2 and ACO, but I cant say I like one over the other. ACO is a "comfort food" type of game to me. I wasn't interested in the narrative whatsoever but the gameplay was certainly strong enough to keep me invested. RDR2 on the other hand is kind of the opposite for me. I wasn't super happy with the mechanics of the game but the narrative itself was enough in itself to keep me interested. I look at it like this. There are movies that I have seen that I absolutely loved but would NEVER watch again. That's how I felt with that Lone Survivor movie. I really liked it but I have no intention of watching that again. RDR2 is like that with me. I have tons of respect for how that game was able to take me through this wide arc of emotions. It quite effectively destroyed me lol. More so than even RDR1 did. ACO is my comfort game. It is purely an entertaining experience.

Not sure other than those two as beat all of the major games out atm, that I really wanted to play anyways.

The fact that red dead redemption 2 didn't grow on daemon is a bit strange considering by the end almost everyone appreciated it even more from what I've seen and read. I personally loved the game and think its one of the best of all time. I understand the argument of the gameplay feeling tedious at times but its not a very "gamey" game and that's what i love about it. ppl make the issues of violence/sexuality/anything else controversial in video games too complicated. Bottom line is that it does affect the way a child perceives it and does matter how your child is introduced to it. With that said, what matters the most is how the parent handles it. Ppl who say it doesn’t affect the child at all are idiots and the ppl who over exaggerate its impact on children are lazy parents.
