With all due respect, I agree with parts of this list. I loved Toy Story 2. Medievil was iconic. I was very excited when I first finished the Driver tutorial (though putting that game and GTA in one list is a bit redundant). Point is, there isn't a "definitive" top-game-of-a-console list. Sure, those that occupy the top spots will usually come down to a few titles no matter whose list you're looking at (in the context of a PSOne list, it'll almost always be FF and MGS), but I wouldn't be so sour just because he didn't include other classics such as Resident Evil. Maybe he didn't play them, or even liked them very much. But I think that's what these lists are sometimes supposed to be, subjective lists that MIGHT introduce you to new titles you previously didn't know existed in a console. Hell, I'm interested in Soul Reaver now and went straight to googling it after seeing this list.

Crash 3 is way too easy, and Crash 1 is pretty hard and a bit unpolished in terms of graphics, so Crash 2 becomes a most balanced game.

Soul Reaver is an incredible game! Completed it recently using a PS1 emulator. The PC version crashes at a particular point for me... Blood Omen is awesome too, but I never got round to completing it. Will have to have another go.

It's sort of painful looking back at the PS1. My memory of it just doesn't match the video. Strange how even though you played maybe hundreds of hours of a game like Final Fantasy, its still shocking to see how primitive it looks now. My brain over the years has updated the graphics to match what we see today so when you really do see how it really looked, you almost can't believe it. I wonder if this happens with other memories.

TheYorkMan I think we have similar stories. That first Playstation was my introduction to consoles. I'm also n the UK. Ridge Racer was the main reason I wanted the console. I'd pumped too much money into the real arcade machine and the idea of having that at home was jaw dropping. Somehow the graphics were almost lifelike to me then and clearly today you can see how crude they are. Anyway, it's a huge step up from the Commodore Vic20, C64, that was the kind of thing I had at home. lol

Clay Mann I got ridge racer with my console! And weirdly it had one of those FF style, multiple disc boxes, when it only had one disc! Why? I have no idea. I barely played it because I got C&C red alert and FF7 the same day. That was my whole Christmas present from my parents that year and definitely the best I ever got.

That's just a rough list. I played so much PS1 games ;) I also like the Tekken series, so the second one would have a spot on my top 10 list :) Did you ever play much of the Tomb Raider series? I finished the first 3 and Chronicles, Legend, Anniversary. The only one I haven't played is the newest one. I can't get around Underworld and The Last Revelation. Very complicated stuff. Irish gamers will live forever ;)

the bad thing is I didn't play the metal gear solid game the first time on the ps1 sadly so I played it on the ps2 collection and there was no looking on the back of the box my friend

That must have been super annoying. I remember the first time I played it was as a rental and the rental place didn't give you the actual gamebox so I when I got to that part I had to ring up the store and ask them what the number on the back of the box was :D

aww u didn't get my reference lol I played the demo of the mgs game that stopped at the first heart attack and I played the 2nd one before the first and the 3rd then when I wanted my mgs games back (lost or traded them in but missed them) I got the collection and finally played the first and when it came to calling her I just went down every number of the codecc lol better then doing that in the 3rd game lol XD

man I remember playing mgs for hours and hours some days when i was a kid, must have played through it more times then I can count, some days I would even make up some excuse to skip school and play it all day, its not that I never went outside but when I got ahold of that game it consumed my life for a pretty long time, in a good way lol. you cant really do the ps1 justice with just a top 10 though

FF7 best of PS1 Final Fantasy games? I do not understand people... Story of FF7 is shit! FF1 had better story -.- How? Story of FF7 in a nutshell: there is an evil corporation (yeah cause there are non evil corporations...) which is destroying the world, cause they're evil, big bad evil guy who wasn't always evil discovered that he has biggest mommy issues person can ever have and he too would like to destroy the world! Our main heroes are: "meat"- big black guy with no personality above stereotipical big tough black guy, "tits"- girl who has no personality what so ever, buy her boobs are big as 2 moons, "our hero!" - guy so miserable that he was forced to create world of lies in which he can live in... "usless girl no. 2" - we meet her soon after game starts, she dies soon after game starts, we do not learn much about her, but people still cry when she dies, "asshole"- guy who is a dick to people cause he didn't get his toy for christmas. When only cool and well written characters are 2 secret characters, 1 dog like creature and remonte controlled toy... you know something isn't right. Music- FFIX and even FFVIII had much better and more memorable music. Graphics- I do not care about graphics in game, but when NES game looks better than PS1 game you know something isn't right. I mean... come on, at time when FF7 was relesed, there was much better looking games on the PS1. FF7 looks like shit! I can't understand why people love FF7 so much. As a jRPG freak I find it not only worst and most boring Final Fantasy game I played, but one of shittiest jRPG over all (and I played a lot of them; and no I did not played Final fantasy on the PS3). God damn it... I understand that everyone should have their opinion, but saying that FF7 is best Final Fantasy, or even best PS1 Final Fantasy is just wrong! ... I'm really sorry for my rage explosion, but after I compared FF7 to great love story in FF8 or fun characters and world of FF9, something cracked inside me.

You really have to look at how this game impacted people at the time it was released. That is what people remember. The graphics at the time alone were amazing. There weren't any other RPGs at the time that let you see your characters doing their moves in a cinematic perspective. Also the character's in this installment had more depth than any previous installments (except FF6) that left the bulk of the story to your imagination. You say FF1 had a better story but there was no character development at all with that one. You could literally replace any character and the story would have not been impacted. This FF took ideas from its predecessors and expanded on them. Also you have to look at distribution of the game and the marketing. The experience alone is not enough you have to be able to share it with others. At the time of its release you could talk to anyone about FF7 and everyone would know what you were talking about. The main reason why so many people feel so fondly about this game is because of the effect it had on them and the impact it had on everyone at the time.

lgh2043 What you have said still does not make this game better than FF8 or FF9. What I meant when saying that FF1 had better story- I mean't bad guys and development of "how it will end?". FF7 has terrible, terrible, terrible bad guys (turks are cool), and very unlikable and undeveloped characters (except Yuffie, RED and maby Vincent...). FF7 did so many things incdedibly wrong. Mechanics are shit, story is bad. I do not care how it affected people- it is one of the worst FF games (but still good jRPG, don't take me wrong, as a jRPG game it's good).

gamesplusjames To be honest.... when I first launched FF X-2 I raged so hard, I didn't give it a try for next few months (I wanted to play it just after I finished FFX). I mean... come on all those female characters which I loved in FFX (always funny and girly Rikku; calm and mature yuna) are oversexualized in FFX-2. Rikku in her default outfit is wearing thongs, mini skirt that in real life would show everybody her underwere and bra... great outfit for combat! Oh and he can change into gunner outfit which looks as a swimming suit! Same with Yuna... that and tone of the game just throw me away, cause I still had in my head story of FFX, sad story, sad ending. But when I tried it... it's not THAT bad, now thing that pisses me most is difficulity level... those girls will die... and die... and die... some boss battles are just phoneix down fests. Songstress class no matter how "cool" is usless; at a start of every hard battle Rikku and Yuna sing to increase every def, and then buff other stats... only thing that happens is: they die just as fast with those buffs as without them, so why care? Hey but I still preffer it over the shitty materia system of FF7!
