Don’t forget Gamespot boycotted Hogwarts because they disagreed with JK Rowling’s political stance. They refused to release their review until much later while still publishing articles about it to still get ad revenue. Absolutely crazy to do that while still claiming to be “journalists.”

Nice list and format. Personally my fav games this yr were SMTV Vengeance, Shadow of the Erdtree, Metaphor Refantazio, FF7 Rebirth, and Black Myth Wukong. I only beat SMTVV as I was just too addicted to the gameplay and fusing demons. Since I work full time w/kids it’s not easy to play so turned based games work best for now! Atlus was company of the yr for sure.

It should be on the list, but it is still a remake of an old game and we have already seen a lot of the graphics/mechanics in the previous FF7 Remake.

@@rundown132most people never finish their games anymore, which is a real shame. I finished FF7rebirth, and loved it. It took me 95 hours, and I can legitimately call it my game of the year. Most other people have no patience to finish anything anymore.

It's a fairly typical open world full of checklist objectives that add nothing to the overall story and are there to be a tedious waste of time. It should be at least 30 hours shorter. Added with the fact that they butchered the original story, and it doesn't deserve to be on any GOTY list in my opinion.

Not only is Astro Bot my game of the year but also give it credit to introducing many IPs that many of my friends and family discovered either playing Astro Bot or watching me play the game. Many now want to play the upcoming Metal Gear Snake Eater Remake and some are playing/discovering those old IPs.

​@ImotekhtheStormlord-tx2it as a multi-platform gamer, Astrobot and Mario Odyssey are equally good. In fact, Astrobot is so good BECAUSE it's like a Mario game. Happy now? All that being said, that's not a bad thing. Other games should try to be more like successful games and innovate on what works for them and astrobot does just that. Even though it's very similar to Mario it's also similar to Crash Bandicoot and it takes things a step further by being a museum of PlayStation history

The devs of astrobot literally credited Nintendo and their excellent platformers and commitment to quality/innovation in their TGA acceptance speech. Both Sony and Nintendo are companies that have done great things for the game industry at various points in their history. The same can be said of Xbox and Sega. None of them are perfect companies, by any means, but all have had an impact. The concept of console wars and fanboy-ing over one company is honestly just childish.

Machine Games WAS NOT inspired by Dishonored -- Arkane was inspired by them! The founders and key people of Machine Games created the Riddick game almost a decade before Dishonored. Indiana Jones and the Golden Circle is really a spiritual successor too their games back at Starbreeze.

Wukong had some poor level design, very hard to follow sidequests (harder than souls quests for the wrong reasons) and had a rough narrative approach. Amazing combat, visuals, and boss fights but there was a lot wrong with that game. Compared to Astro Bot which basically hit every beat it was trying to, to at least a decent or great level.
