Im going to have to correct Jonathan on the SA80 manual of arms, on the point of the reload (17:01) he points to the bolt catch or "holding open catch" when saying that is how the bolt is released. In actuality the bolt catch release is the square button ON THE OTHER SIDE of the weapon. When the bolt is locked back to the rear the user pushes downwards on the square lever and that releases the bolt. The little green lever is used to manually hold the bolt to the rear for the inspection of the chamber. For instance the user would pull the cocking piece to the rear and, whilst holding the cocking handle, push down on the green lever and then let go of the cocking handle. After this the bolt would stay in the rear.

I would assume the "thin rails" are done as a way to save some polygons on the 3D model. Game devs usually have a lot of reference around when modeling real guns (sometimes even physical, actual ones), but when making a game there is always the consideration of "is it worth it to put too many polygons in just for the sake of a little detail?" Making a simplified shape too big would make the model uglier. So it's a mixture of optimization and artistic choice.
@stev3548

Just to nit pick a little, when reloading the L85, in standard practice, one releases the working parts forward with the square black catch on the left side of the weapon, just above the fire selector lever (seen @14:35), by depressing it downwards. The green catch on the right side of the weapon behind the dust cover is used to hold the working parts to the rear manually for carrying out unload procedures.

Mr. Jonathan, many shooters have "head glitches" where the bullet comes out of the players forehead when they stand behind cover and the enemy can only ever see the top of their head. It would be nice if more shooters did away with that.
@afd19850
@afd19850 2 жыл бұрын
10000000% agree. Head glitches in COD can ruin an entire map because of one infamous spot. Bullets like real life should come from barrels. Yeah, as an very frequent Siege player who genuinely enjoys and has fun with the game, I've never particularly cared for the "realism", or lack-thereof. I've always tried to push that Siege has never been realistic, even in its early days, while it was grounded in reality, it was never truly realistic and it was full of things that completely fly in the face of realism. So whenever I see people complaining about these sci-fi-esque Operators like Iana, Finka, or Warden, my first thought is always "why does it even matter? Why do you care?" I personally don't, I just try to have fun, and the reason I don't move to games like Overwatch, Battlefield, or CoD, is because I prefer the slower paced gameplay, as well as gameplay style. I've never quite enjoyed the fast-paced running and gunning, and I just love and enjoy Siege particularly. So yeah, I've given my two-cents.

The shooting through the scope is indeed intentional for gameplay purposes in Siege. Siege had an arcade-y but competitive idea behind it so they chose it that way to have less inconsistencies etc.

It doesn’t seem that way. Honestly, it seems like an engine limitation. They took 6 years to fix bulletholes and one of the potential solutions (Rogue 9 discussed it) was to make bullets come from the barrel instead, it would get rid of melee holes and bullet holes and decided instead to opt for the decal solution. My theory though. But I honestly think if they could remove those ‘rat’ holes they would as it is unhealthy for the game.
@keatonwastaken
@keatonwastaken 2 жыл бұрын
@@speedyazi5029 It's rarely an engine limitation, you can make anything on basically any engine. Game engines are just the baseline with collision, world rendering and things along those lines, a big dev team can achieve any kind of feature on basically any engine. Bullets coming out of barrel just doesnt fit into a fast paced game like R6 unfortunately.

Funnily enough, I think that ability to breach which you talked about in the same segment, is also exactly the reason why they chose to have bullets "come out of the sight". The bolt release on the SA80 is actually on the left side of the gun, just above the mag release catch. It's a little square block that you pull down to release the bolt. The green lever that Johnathan indicated to behind the ejection port is actually the bolt hold open. You can release the bolt using this, however doctrine is to avoid putting your fingers near the open bolt.

I know it's late, but the Russian Op who has the DP27 and the Mosin grenade launcher is actually lore-explained for why he uses such old weapons - he's a history buff. Tachanka, in-universe, is known for his hobby of collecting antique weapons; the DP used to be his gadget and was an immobile deployable mount. Lore documentation and a cutscene actually poke fun at this, with other operators commenting on his favoring of ridiculously old weapons, and he's seen browsing an auction site for the grenade launcher (what eventually becomes his gadget when the DP was moved to his primary weapon) during a mission briefing.

4:31 to 4:35 Up to Y1S3 - Skull Rain, resealed on 2016 Q3, every weapon had it's sighting picture correctly set to the cheek weld of it's buttstock. After they decided to turn the game into a competitive tactical shooter, much of the realistic aspects were cut, and by the start of Y2S3 - Blood Orchid the game became literally Overwatch with airsoft cosplayers. You can even use telekinesis to magically put back the magazine you removed a second ago and shoot the remaining ammunition just by aiming down sights while reloading. It was still good enough, and Siege really lost most of it's magic after the major disappoinment that was the update Y4S2 - Phantom Sight. Although some of the most recent seasons were good, like Y5's Void Edge, Steel Wave and Shadow Legacy, the game doesn't feel as if weapons mattered anymore. It most about gadgets.

On the SA80 the "bolt release" that Jonathan talks about isn't the actual bolt release on the weapon, thats the catch you use to hold the bolt to the rear. The actual bolt release catch is on the other side of the rifle just above the fire selector switch. It's a black square with rounded corners that you push down towards the ground from the top of it to release the bolt then do your forward assist.
