Shadow King and Charles came out on top. Provided Present Day Shadow King, and David gave Past Shadow King (with the glasses) and Charles (The Cake) contained more than just what happened to them. If it contained everything that happened in their respective lives then Charles and Past Shadow King will live on with that knowledge. They made this point in the video, but I felt they missed out on the possibility that Charles benefitted from it as well.

There's alot to unpack from the series finale. But yeah Charles too benefited from David's knowledge. Hopefully he'll seek out the mutants David met before to join his school if he ever made one. Maybe Sydney and David will meet again this way.

Farouk redeemed himself with David. I love the part when he shared his feeling for David with Charles and past Farouk (nah guys, he wasn’t lying). Farouk admitting to himself and to Charles that he couldn’t raise David was huge, imo. It helps to interpret season 2 as Farouk’s misguided attempt to raise David. He wants to see David realize his potential, and the only way he knows how to do this is by isolating him from everyone he loves. After all, that seemed to be Farouk’s entire existence: isolation and misery. Then, at the end of season 2, he realized he failed. He raised a boy consumed by hatred. Farouk is fully aware of the damage done by his time with David, and he genuinely wants to stop it from ever happening.

I think every main character did something awful on the show or had some moral shortcoming: -- Amy lied to David and told him he'd only be in clockworks for three weeks. She was also willing to cooperate with division to capture and "turn off" David. Also, remember how she inconsiderately ate David's birthday cupcake in front of him in the first episode? --- Kerry was willing to kill baby David! She's willing to kill anything, it seems. -- Cary was going to gas and kill David, just because he wouldnt accept treatment. -- Melanie wanted to use David and his godly power to fight a war against humanity. -- While Syd was only a teenager when she used her mom to have sex with her mom's boyfriend, resulting in his arrest, and beat up the bullies at school, she never showed remorse. She was also willing to murder David just because Melanie/Farouk showed her images of David's bad side and that he might destroy the world. -- Oliver selfishly didnt care for Melanie's wants or needs and left her to live in the astral plane.

But I remember Kerry aging a bit some episodes before, just right after accidentally carrying Carry within her. I think it's a mix of time demons and a bit of transfer of the "oldness-ish" of Carry. You see, every time Kerry gets beaten, the injuries are transfered to Carry when she goes inside. So maybe, Carry transfered his "age issues" to Kerry while being inside of her.

Benny doesn't need to be in David Haller's life. Lenny was a real person at Clockworks. She died in that whole psychic blast that happened because two mutants switched bodies. We say the body. Now whether or not the character in the new (and actual Original Timelines(Comics)) timeline bears any resemblance to the identity that took David's foster sister's body is anyone's guess. Great series and of course, it resets the X-Men timeline again because what else is new.
@LanceVanceDance845 жыл бұрын
Yup. Lenny was real but died in the very first episode. The rest of that season she's just a mask used by Farouk. Season two is when she becomes a real person again, albeit in Amy's body. There's nothing to indicate that she won't exist in the new timeline, but considering how Amy was David's adoptive sister and how Charles and Gabrielle will be sticking around this time, David will never meet her. That's a huge change from David's previous life, so he'll probably never meet Benny or wind up at Clockworks to meet Lenny and Syd. If he does still wind up in a mental hospital (since it's hinted that his mental illness runs in his mother's family), it'd probably be something else.

I do believe Lenny does exist, and Farouk simply rewrote David’s memories to put Lenny into Benny’s place. She was physically killed when Syd took over David’s body in season one. Farouk was likely changing David’s memories to try to stop him from killing himself, or for fun, or any number of other reasons. It is why she gets trapped in Farouk’s mind throughout most of season two. She had been real, because the drug dealer remembers her once she regained a physical form. There’s other instances, but Farouk uses the loss of Lenny throughout season one to torture David because David was her friend and he could use the guilt to further destroy David’s mind.

She used to be consistent up until the latter half of s2 when the writers decided to make Syd ooc for the sake of plot (you know, the David is evil crap). In her final moments, she’s back to bitter snark, borderline defeating the whole empathy episode. I loved the bit about saving baby David, but loathed the “i am” in response to David saying she’ll be extraordinary without him around. WTF? Do you hate this character, Noah? Why? suddenly will be a “better” person w/o having known David? It's ALL David's fault? Syd is a jerk and the writing of this character is terrible.

I hated her whole mentality the second half of season 2. I even wanted David to kill her because some of the arguments she made about David being bad was so dumb and yet her and the rest of the crew just sheltered Farouk and shrugged off the things he did and just basically treated him as an ally.

@@tricktreat688 My main gripe with the show is that they did a poor job of ever making Farouk likeable enough to buy his "I've changed" story arc. Possessing and torturing a baby for 30+ years is irredeemable, but Syd just took his word over David. It turned out to be correct, but the writers never gave us a sound reason to agree. Also, why would Farouk change so much in 30 years if he was centuries old?

I thought the finale had a very beautiful message. But this is the one episode in the run that makes me think the public statements that the show was only intended to run 3 seasons was bullshit. The Farouk of season 1 and 2 and most of 3 was not the Farouk we got in the finale. It felt like they had this ending in mind for the series but condensed it mostly by excising the middle act of Farouk's character arc.

I always had the impression Farouk would do anything necessary to survive and his change was motivated by the knowledge that even with his body David could kill him (and did in at least 1 timeline). His younger self "joking" about taking over the world seems to support that
@Cuchulainn19845 жыл бұрын
@@dammagrilla Oh, he's not joking. The Farouk from the past/rebooted timeline isn't the one who went through the redemption arc, he just understands that David is more or less his future son and sees the toll the path he and Xavier set in motion took on David and the world and decides to not do that. The Farouk who is getting erased with David is the one who went through that arc. And that Farouk doesn't survive. The emotional heft of the arc is that Farouk completely reverses course from season 2. The old Farouk possessed David because taking over the mind of a baby was, in his mind, a better alternative to oblivion. In season 2, Farouk cites that for his justification for what he did to David. In the finale, Farouk decides to choose oblivion over life to save David and the world.

@@Cuchulainn1984 I'm saying, IMO, Farouk knows how to manipulate people and put himself in a winning position and once he realized fighting David wouldn't work he decided to try something else. @@dammagrilla I think the story problem you are identifying--which is very real and I actually 100% agree with--is the storylines of seasons 2 and 3 don't really fit together well and they absolutely clash with the story of season 1. I don't think this was the only ending to the show. There's video from FX showing unaired material from what looks like the final episode. It shows David, in his cult clothing, screaming in agony and seemingly losing his mind. It's haunting video. It seems to show him turning into the devil with the yellow eyes. A flash of the same video was shown when David was choking Farouk. Also, there's behind the scenes video of a skinny version of the devil with yellow eyes calling out to David's mom saying mommy. I'm thinking David's original fate was much darker. Perhaps he ended up losing his body like Farouk and turning into the new Shadow King.

Can we talk about Farouk for a second? If he grew to love David like a son, why was he so antagonizing during the first 2 seasons? He haunted him with demonic masks and killed his sister.
@Cuchulainn19845 жыл бұрын
Season 1 is the season that directly clashes w9th this ending. Season 2--especially the finale--does establish that Farouk has a twisted, narcissistic "love" for David--he sees David as an extension of himself---and it's apparent that he is helping David in season 3 for some reason. What we don't see onscreen is Farouk make the transition from a narcissistic view of "love" to the real thing. The intended arc here was for Farouk to basically go from selfishly obsessed with David to selflessly sacrificing himself out of love for David. But we don't see the most dramatically interesting part of that, which is the the transition. It feels like either they were bullshitting about the show being 3 seasons in length by design and the character who got the shortest end of the stick was Farouk or they came up with that ending late the game and committed to it despite not really doing the necessary groundwork.
@Malthizar5 жыл бұрын
Because the show is terrible in terms of character arcs. All the main characters do unrealistic things in the season for "reasons". Character development, however, was God awful

Daniel Roche But in season 2 Farouk killed David’s sister. How does that set him up as someone who loves him?
@Cuchulainn19845 жыл бұрын
@@Dominic-Decoco The show is sometimes too clever for its own good, i.e. it sometimes assumes knowledge of the story you don't have while thinking it is giving you 2 + 2 and letting you figure out 4 for yourself. The best theory I've read is that season 2 is Farouk's attempt to be a father to David, it's just he and Sebastian Shaw from X-Men: First Class have similar ideas of what a father figure looks like. Farouk thought cutting David free of all his attachments would allow him to realize his potential. In reality, all it did was turn him into an Omega level mutant so monomaniacally focused on revenge that he destroys the world. In that reading, season 3 is Farouk being honestly contrite and trying to help David fix it.
@Dominic-Decoco5 жыл бұрын
Malthizar I disagree. I think most of the characters arcs are executed well. Syd goes from young and naive in season 1, to more hardened in season 2 (“Love makes us soft”, “This isn’t a fairy tale”), to narcissistic and delusional in season 2 finale and season 3 (“Me [I’m the hero]” and trying to hunt and kill David”) and then finally a new, mature, and wise version of herself after getting wiped and growing up in the astral plane. I do wish they let Carrie (female) gradually start to mature over the last 2 seasons. But she’s always been op and able to fight everyone, so that’s not really out of character. Lennie goes from a junky, to a scared and suicidal prisoner used by Farouk as a mask, to a confident leader of a cult, and then finally to a more wise and regretful version of herself after the time demons reveal to her that her past life was meaningless. Ptonomy is useless. And then Farouk has a descent story arc that has certain moments that contradict where he ends up. Hence my original comment.

Evolution is a big part of mutation. Omega level mutants may often times appear God-like when manifesting their powers. ---- this "creative team" would be great to move to an actual narrative spin off into a late 60's / early 70's Original Class (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel and Beast) X-Men tv series. If Farouk had such a change of heart, why the hell did he shove Lenny in to David's sister's body just last season???
@H2Obsession5 жыл бұрын
Farouk didn't have a change of heart -- he is LYING! He gave the story "David is like my son" and fed Xavier that who-knows-what drink to manipulate Xavier... so that Xavier would stop David from killing Farouk's younger self. Clever strategy. He did essentially the same trick to Division 3 and Syd to make them turn on David at end of Season 2... this time he only had to manipulate Xavier who was pretty naive about his powers (i.e., not hard to do). Farouk was not *totally* lying (a good lie contains a kernel of truth)... I believe that Farouk thinks of David as a pet or maybe a doll/toy... something you may have emotional attachment to, but you also don't mind manipulating (perhaps abusing) them if need be... In other words, there is some evil/twisted version of "love" in Farouk's heart for David, but it isn't the type of love that a normal human would give their son. Having said that, it is easy to see why David has evil/dark impulses (well that and the mental disease he inherited from mommy). And the older Farouk showing his younger self all the stuff he learned should help him from being tricked by David and time travel should history repeat itself. Shadow King wins!

My guess is was backdoor exit created by future David in case things got hairy.

Unanswered questions... what of Admiral Fukiama (misspelled for sure)? In the opening episode of season 3 we see a graphic of him (and the Vermilion mustache faces) on at least one of the posters that Switch finds and reads. Then nothing...

Everything after Xavier meeting Farouk never happened, Fukuyama would be whatever he was 30+ years ago

I found this channel because of your legion breakdowns all the way back in season 1, so I’ll miss this show. I really don’t know how I would have gone by without your insightful and funny asides. Loving your content 👌

The timeline that went back to talk to David in Season 2 went through what we saw in Season 3 when they changed the past. I thought it would connect at some point, but I guess things altered significantly with future Syd talking to David. Trippy

Not a huge fan of the ending but at least David won't be getting stalked by 'Shotgun Syd' anymore.

She was obsessed with stopping him because of the belief he destroys the world. Just like David was obsessed with fixing his life by killing younger Farouk. There's literally no drama in the last season without those two motivations.

i loved shotgun syd from the first episodes timeline, that no longer exist the question is was switch never human/mutants. she is called a fourth dimensional being by father but its more like 6 or 7th dimensional. she was a 4th dimensional being at the start of the season, she moved semi-freely thru time. now she can jump multiverses and even visit erased timelines in the blink of an eyes. switchs becoming a woman cost a reality/timeline. she was the villainesses of the season.

The only thing I didn't like about this finale is how they forgive Farouk. Yes, I know they wanted to give a message about love and everything but, like you guys said, Farouk did horrible stuff and I don't believe his bullshit about loving David. He tortured him and enjoyed it, he killed his sister and put everyone against him, so just like that they are good? nah. Only that little (huge) detail I hate.

I don't think they forgive him i think it's just a live and let live deal

@@acchery8910 Farouk has a beautiful arc but the most important part of that arc occurs offscreen, which is the only gripe I have with the finale.

This was best TV series I've experienced - perfect in wrapping in just three seasons. And it ended with "all we need is love" - not war, not revenge - and that change is possible. Couldn't ask for a better storyline during these dark times. And loved all the music and homages/references to so many influences - the writers, directors, actors, photography, editing, make-up, sets, whole crew - amazing creativity! and collaboration! Thank you for your great commentary too.

Was an amazing ending or should I say "begining", we are Legion. 💙
