Mewtwo isn't in the game because it's a legendary pokemon, there's supposed to be only one in the world. It doesn't make sense if multiple people all have mewtwo. Not to mention Mewtwo would single handedly be the strongest pokemon in the game and it wouldn't be fair in gym battles.

As a die hard Pokémon fan, I LOVE this theory. Even though it didn't age as well with the release of all the new Pokémon and features. From just a basic sense of timeline, it all adds up. It could even explain stuff like why the Game Freak office always breaks the fourth wall, down to why the PokéDex is ordered the way it is, even the origin of all Pokémon. Though it isn't flawless, what Pokémon timeline theory is?

What if Lt. Surge Is the Instinct Leader? Think about it, they both have yellow hair, love electric Pokémon and the instinct leader seems to be in his teens 20-30 And Lt. Surge seems to be in his 50's seeing he had been in the great Pokémon war you have to think that since instinct was in that war (as matpat said) and if instinct was in that war and Lt. Well, considering game plot and the anime plot are in a different universe, we could just ignore that detail about Ash. And Professor Willow is actually Professor X Willow. Not Willow X. Just like the others. Samuel Oak. Aurea Juniper, etc. This timeline doesn't make any sense because AZ clearly stated that it's been 3000 years since he last saw Floette aka the end of the war. So, it's very unlikely that Mewtwo is completed before the war.

As someone who has played Pokemon GO daily since getting into the beta in 2016, this video is an absolute TRIP to watch! I am absolutely in love with the idea that GO is canon in the Pokemon universe, especially the bit about Pryce/Willow. Obviously a lot has changed, mostly thanks to updates to the app and the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but this was still a fantastic watch 6 years after this game's release. I wonder if Pokemon GO has any more theories that have developed over the half decade that has passed?

If this theory were true then Omanyte would need to be regenerated at a lab somewhere without the possibility of it found, even rarely, anywhere since it is "long-since-extinct."

It'd be so amazing to see you update this theory! There's now research tasks, EX-Raids, Raids in general, and special research which after completing several pages you finally unlock capturing Mew. Community days usually introduce the shiny form of a Pokemon as well as making it appear everywhere worldwide for 3 hours on a particular day once a month. There's been lots of legendaries and 3 gens out with the 4th one coming out anytime within the next coming months. Loved the theory! Ditto being in the game doesn't kill this theory. Mew is in captivity being cloned, Mewtwo hasn't been made yet. Unsuccessful Dittos are thrown out and now exist in the wild. Technically, Ditto being added still leaves the theory valid.

Everyone likes to use Omanyte and Kabuto to try to debunk this. However, it is still possible that those pokémon have been around for thousands of years prior to "GO's" assumed time, and the fossils found in Red, Blue, and Green could also be fossils from before they went extinct, way before "GO." Even more, one of the selling points for go was legendary battles, showing thousands of people in time square catching/fighting mewtwo at once. Yet Mewtwo is still absent. This could still very well fall into that time of them creating mewtwo, but not succeeding, I mean it took how many months for that to be added?

Theory-idea: So there's Mystic (Articuno = water = squirtle, scientifically counting out the battles, and squirtle is the strongest starter for gen1), Valor (Moltress = fire = charmander, also dedicated and built purely for battle - just look at that friggin' dragon!), and finally ... Instinct? That'd be Zapdos, lightning and your unique talent - not really Bulbasaur. But consider this: as mentioned in the video there was a war between the factions. What if Instinct perished, and Ash/Oak are the sole survivor of that faction, and the real 3rd starter was always intended to be Pikachu? Or should I say Pichu? Is it a coincidence that Liutenant Serge had a Raichu? Did HE belong to Instinct? Maybe - maybe! - Instinct was playing the other two factions against each other, they realised this, and obliterated this third faction, replacing it with their own puppet-faction?
