I have a theory that Wally isn't trying to indoctrinate us, but simply communicate with us. The Question Answerer seeing Wally and the phone in his dream, I think Wally was just trying to talk to them. With the guestbook being closed, Wally can't talk to us like he used to. I think he misses "talking" to a real person, and now found someone who he can talk to.

Fun fact: Wally makes a cameo in the pre-alpha for the upcoming game Billie Bust Up!, on a portrait found in the manor of an antagonist coincidentally called "Barnaby". This Barnaby also makes a cameo in a doodle found in page 8 of the website's guestbook. Also, I know this game’s still in development, but I certainly recommend giving it a go when the full release comes out. Who knows, there might even be hidden *LORE!*

There’s something I noticed that supports this idea of Wally being used or controlled by home. Every character has a colored vinyl. Eddie’s is purple, Barbary’s is blue, etc. these are used in the neighborhood when you wanna hear a characters catchphrase or voice, and are shown in the playfellow exhibition when talking about characters voice recordings. Wally’s color is red. When you click on the drawings on the pages, you get a dark red vinyl. This is similar to Wally’s, but it isn’t. It’s a dark red (shades do count as different characters because Julie is a light red, like pink). Even if it’s Wally’s voice, it’s showing a different character. I believe this is home. The vinyl shows this is home talking, using Wally to speak to us, controlling him.

omg i love both of these ideas, i think ur both right @@TRexila when i went to read more on clown's/thecreator's blog, i saw a question he answered about wally--he said something like 'oh no, hes just wally! well, not 'just' wally, but hes simply wally!' and that makes me think ur right, that wally is not just himself, he is also home's puppet that home speaks thru! i think this adds evidence to ur idea, i love ur theory here edit: I JUST REMEMBERED THE CROQUET GAME- wally went over to ask if home would play croquet, how tf does a house play croquet? in 'just so' they say sure home can play croquet with them, and wally is speaking strangely again, and they go set up the game in home's front yard--supposedly so home can see the game, then use wally as his player? so wally's body is how home plays the game, while seeing thru so many eyes, not just its own and wallys, as we know--itd be easy enough to play that way, and makes sense that home is the one who wants to learn about the world so much, too! and it kinda fits with the two wallys idea, that wally is himself but also home, hence why wally wants to bring home to howdy's to get 'his own hot dog' bc home has only ever experienced a hot dog thru wally eating them, and never had its own, omg

Throwing my own theory in here. I believe Welcome Home is a story about isolation and loneliness, going hand in hand, too, with the mental illness aspect Clown is displaying in these characters. On the website, it makes a comment at one point about how the episodes of Welcome Home from the 70s only had Wally interacting with the audience. He'd go around and learn new lessons, but the other characters were never also trying to teach an audience these things - only Wally. And then the show was taken off the air, and NO ONE remembers it. Wally Darling's puppet is the only puppet found (or they found the design from the original show and re-made it for the exhibit), all of the others have been lost or damaged. Because we mostly see the gang as 2D drawings, we forget that on the show they were entirely puppets, and the 2D aspect was a marketing choice. So, the puppets are destroyed and lost and the only one left is Wally. On the neighborhood tab where you can click on the houses and read about the characters, Wally (and the secret 'you') is the only one referred to in the present-tense. Everyone else is gone. Wally and House are all alone. I don't think Wally reaching out is trying to be malevolent or creepy - he's been either confirmed as autistic or referenced as being autistic by Clown - he's just been alone for so long, and he wants new friends and somebody, ANYBODY to be with. The entire Welcome Home show is based around all of them being friends and playing together, being together, even if Wally has nothing to say (like in the video clips where we see through his eyes as his friends talk - he just wants to be around them even if he doesn't feel like speaking). I don't really have an explanation for why the paint makes the Question Answerer mad, but I think Wally appearing in their dreams with the phone, watching and waiting for them to pick it up as it rings endlessly, is just a cry for help. For companionship. For a friend. A friend other than House, from outside the neighborhood. Because, after you spend so long inside your house, you just need to get out.

I feel like it isn't as simple as 'Wally is trying to form a cult', I think there's Wally the TV character, and Wally the puppet who's gained awareness of the audience and is caught between fiction and reality, a sort of entity trying to reach out to us on the real side. Like it seems he's gained some awareness and sentience uniquely among the cast of Welcome Home, and possibly that's why things were shut down, or at the very least why his attempts at communicating are being edited out by the WHRP: the stuff painted on the submitted artwork looks like it was smeared by the kind of paint and brushes you give to a child - not out of the realm for what Wally, the surrogate for the child audience, might use to paint - and is removed as part of the 'restoration' process. Add that to burying his 'glitched' audio, and a page in the exhibition where Wally looks at the viewer directly when answering labelled 'DO NOT PRINT', speculated to be promotional but possibly ordered not to print to keep him from reaching out there as well. Wally is trying to reach out, but someone or something is trying to stop him I think Wally gained this awareness before any other puppet, and someone out there knows this, that he's something else, which is why his audio isn't (supposed to be) on the site. Also, the other residents aren't reacting to a prank call - they're reacting to us calling them, but since they can't hear us like Wally can, they just assume it's a weird call (through the lens of a children's show character, meaning it's a harmless prank, right?) but since Wally's been trying to reach out to us, and since Wally's aware of the audience, he's aware that this is an attempt to contact, and he's acknowledging us there and in his other files. But hey, his character role is the audience surrogate, the one who talks to the children watching the show, is it really a surprise that he can cross the divide of the fourth wall? The art sent out are like messages in a bottle, and can we really blame him for trying to reach out to us again, now that he's alone and can hardly see us anymore? Confused to find himself existing while his friends and home are fictional? or IDK maybe I'm just a sucker for sympathetic horrors that do their damage unintentionally, or in their own desire for freedom or help hahaha Edit: i just noticed something and i'm not normal about it, but I noticed in some audio on the site - like the storybook segment of Eddie lifting everyone - Wally talks slow, but it flows together, it's sleepy but not stilted, but in bits like the mystery audio with Howdy, Barnaby, and Wally, Wally sounds more stilted, like he's saying every word on its own rather than together in a sentence. I'm not sure if that means Wally IS getting possessed by Home or if this means Wally changed after Something happened (gaining awareness? going from being a puppetted, acted character to speaking for himself?) to make him sound disjointed like that...? that and thinking about all those skits that end right when they turn to talk to wally, like he's been ripped out of the scene.... what *happened* to Wally?

It’s times like this I like to remember that Clown really likes The Muppets. Off topic but did you know that Kermit the Frog sort of acted as a representation of Jim Henson himself? idk if this is relevant to anything but: if you go on "the neighborhood", click on Home and scroll down to the very bottom, there is a button that says "good bye" in grey. But if you do that with any other character's house, it says "go back" in blue, red, and yellow.

I had a nightmare after watching this, I was in a basement, one I had never seen before, but there were Welcome Home puppets everywhere, and I only assumed it was meant to be the aftermath of Home's plan, because upstairs all I could hear was the horrified and pain filled screams of a man, combined with other grotesque sounds like he was being ripped apart

While I'm not great at ARG solving, I would love to see this turn into a way for participants/the audience to work together, and save Wally and/or bring down Home, where failure is a possibility. I love how Wally appears to be portrayed as two personalities - the one that represents Home and one that represents the real, untainted Wally - and it would be a lot of fun to see participants have an impact on how this one plays out.

im not sure if anyone has found this yet, but i was randomly clicking around the about us page and at the very bottom there is a mantis on the bottom right corner, when i clicked on the mantis it led me to another tab called answer with a video playing. and on the sticker page there is a spider on the highest point of the upper right corner that leads to another video called answer. and in the neighberhood there is a beetle near the other options on where you can go that leads to another video called answer, and on the news page there is a caterpillar that is in the upper most part of the top right corner. i think there is one in every page but i am not very sure.

side note in case you didn't know (you probably did though), i looked at the telephone and clicked the wally button, under the actual audio you can listen to if you highlight under it the whole conversation is in text (including background noises stopping and starting) it isn't really important but apparently there was a heartbeat in the background edit: they have the text on all the hidden audio disks i found so far another edit: even the visual ones have it- not the one titled "soon"
