It would probably be Minecraft in for me. Although I don't play the game anymore as much it was always this process of exploration with the potential loot away, whenever I would play with friends or by myself I'd be the one going into a hole for 2 hours just to come back with enough stuff to have enough for the next really long while hah

DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE!? Great video! Also, for the question at 14:15, definitely keep going. Ditch the gravel, string, bones and flint. Use the wood to build a crafting table, compress the coal. Then either bring the table or leave it there to open one more slot. Now you should have plenty of space to keep going. Once again, great video. Your editing was on point.

If there's one thing I'd like to share, it's the point on Atmosphere. Just last night, I was playing a modpack in minecraft, "Create Mekanized," and had achieved space travel to the moon via the Ad Astra mod included in the pack. As per a quest line, I was tasked to obtain Desh, an ore only found on the moon, and exploring in those absolute desolate caves was kind of exhilarating to an extent. Usually, when you explore caves in minecraft, you'd expect it to be littered with mobs here and there, maybe coming across a ravine with glow lichen, small water/lava falls, but not in the moon caves. The moon caves were devoid of any life, save for a corrupted lunarian here and there, but completely barren. It was definitely a weird but cool feeling to hold a lantern in your off-hand lighting your way within the cave looking for Moon Desh Ore. Not to mention, you have lower gravity, alongside the added fact you were on a constant time limit due to your space suit's oxygen depleting over time. As per the rewards point, it was a nice feeling to return back to Earth with the spoils I obtained, enough to last a good while before I head back for another visit.

I'd argue that Stardew Valley's Skull Cavern is honestly a contender amongst some of the greats. The initial mining experience in Stardew only really offers what you must get to craft certain things, upgrade tools etc (like you said), but the Skull Cavern with its randomness and challenging moments can be really fun if you push yourself to get really deep down as you race against the clock until 2am.

I feel like another reason terraria's mining/exploring feels so satisfying is because it also adds to the other dopamine booster: Power spikes. With each delve into the mine, you have a very real chance of coming out way stronger than before. You could go into the mine as a scrawny weakling that gets owned by slimes then spawn back in the over world with enough trinkets and ore to boss rush your way through pre-hard mode. Then after you get to hard-mode, you're suddenly given another chance to go mining causing another power spike right after.

sometimes when I am in a Solo mission in Deep Rock Galactic and I see an open area of the cave, I sometimes just sit back, turn off my headlamp, and gaze at the silhouette of the environment with the calm soundtrack playing in the background. In biomes with natural light sources, such as the glowing plants of the Azure Weald or the lava geysers and molten rock of the molten rocks of the magma core the view can be breathtaking. Then the bugs are attacking you and you gotta get back to work.

I actually love how games seem to give a lot of attention and love to professions not typically viewed in a positive light. Or like they're lesser jobs. Mario being a plumber is another one. Miners and plumbers are both extremely essential to our societies across the world, yet most media never even focuses on either. Instead, you'll see more attention put on stuff like journalists. With Peter Parker, Lois Lane, or April O'Neill. Because it's more than likely the professions the people making the products are more used to. So it's nice to see media that showcases harder and more essential jobs in a positive light. Or even as main characters or focal points of the products.

Don't play Minceraft anymore, but when I did, I tended to optimize what I brought out. Based on that haul, depending on how deep I was and what durability was left in my tools, I would have actually dropped some of the stuff (notably the gravel, all but one stack of stone, string, and extra bow), and kept digging. Good Idea bringing a bed for checkpoints though, but I think you should have brought a clock along too for time tracking (haven't played in a very long time, not sure if you can checkpoint without sleeping now).

I think a phenomenal example would also be Subnautica. The whole game is about going deeper and deeper into this alien underwater planet, vut the surface only really goes down to about 300 meters, then you enter the lost river caves, which quickly descends into the mouth of an underwater volcano, over a kilometer below the surface and with it any form of safety. All while the threats increase and the environment becomes increasingly alien

I think what makes these kinds of games so damn interesting is how they put level editing mechanics into the core gameplay loop. Part of that loop is modifying the game world itself to fit your needs, and making the process of doing so engaging as you figure out how to do so. You don’t just navigate the level, you create systems to aid it. Trying to leave a normal comment here because the video is actually well made and it seems most comments are instead concerningly obsessed with children.

Hey Jontohil! I think the interactivity and effect that the player has on the environment is one of the crucial pieces of mining that make it interesting for me. Being able to see my work and watch it be done is amazing, and I love watching it happen.
@Jontohil2
@Jontohil2 5 ай бұрын
@@LucidMakesVideos also the fact you can dig into the environment gives them a much better sense of having mass, since you can actually break it open and see more wall of it within, which is why they can be so immersive, you get a real sense that it really is a thick or thin wall. It’s like how DOOM Eternals glory kills show you ripping demons apart and seeing their bones and organs, as well as normal damage exposing parts of their innards while they’re alive. Same effect, because the player can rip them apart it makes them feel like they have actual mass rather than just being a model.

When you asked if I would go up with the ores that you got, for me, the answer depends on how far down you are. If you're super far down, keep going until your inventory is filled with nothing but good ores. If you don't have to go that far up, just drop everything at base real quick, I'd go.

As a Minecrafter (14:21) I would keep mining. I would throwaway the 2 gunpowder the damage bow, eat the carrot, turn to coal into blocks throwaway the shears, throwaway the gravel maybe 2 stacks, remove the string. You could remove more from the inventory to make space but it depends if you want to use those blocks for decoration or not. All of this would give you 7 inventory slots, you also have more than enough food. But that just my opinion

One thing I think also is good with games with mining is how the path "down" is longer than going back up. With mining (especially minecraft) digging a tunnel takes a lot of time, you get some loot and then you can get back up to your base fairly quickly. It also feeds into the building aspect where making a mine that is efficient for getting up and down from and is easy to navigate later becomes important. So the players will be pushed to engage with the building as well, which is the best part of minecraft imo.

14:16 personally, I would've been long gone before I found that diamond. I always head back the moment my inventory is full in both Minecraft and Terraria. While it is quite tedious to return home, offload your stuff then come back to keep exploring over and over again, the satisfaction I get when I've fully looted an entire cave system and get to see the vast resources I've acquired is some of the highest a game can give me.

You touched on it with Mindustry, but it could be extrapolated to all factory building games in general. The process of needing more and figuring out how to get it. After all, there's no point in rewards if there's nothing to DO with them. Diamonds are rare and powerful in Minecraft, but even cobblestone can be used for building a new castle. The automated mining in factory building games may lack the depth (literally, most of them being on the surface), but as you build more and more complex items, the necessity for large amounts of the base materials make the search for new veins worthwhile. And even then, Satisfactory and Techtonica especially have a side focus of cave exploring towards new goodies.
