Rise of the Ronin has a lot in common with a number of other games, from Team Ninja’s own past titles to open world experiences that it attempts to emulate in a number of ways. But the game that it probably has more in common with than most others is Ghost of Tsushima.
Promising a historical Japanese setting where melee combat and stealth are front and center across a massive open world, Team Ninja’s newest game attempts to emulate Ghost of Tsushima in a number of ways- but it comes out on top in very few (if any) of those comparisons. From its world design to its storytelling style to its side activities, Rise of the Ronin fails to match the heights of Sucker Punch’s samurai epic in a number of areas. It looks dated and I’m not sure what happened during development but I don’t think it’s ended up being what the developers intended it to be. I actually think Nioh looks better which is strange because rise of the ronin claims it was made for the ps5 but it clearly wasn’t. Final fantasy 7 rebirth also looks dated when they claim it was made for the ps5 but it clearly wasn’t. I don’t think it looks any better than ff xv that came out 8 years ago. Ronin is a hard game but it has way more depth to it than ghost of tushima. I’m only a few hours in and don’t feel like I’ve played long enough to even really have a good feel for the game: but comparing them isn’t right because they aren’t the same sort of game. They are bother open world samurai games but that’s about as far as it goes.

Rise of Ronin is probably one of the better games I played in the past year and even all the side activities actually just better because its faster there's no way you are sitting here telling me oh following the wind wasn't boring and redundant. reviewers seem so lost when it comes to how great this game actually is must of either got the bag or not given it enough time since all the scenes, they show for ronin are from no further than an hour in. This isnt gaming journalism. Gameranx puts this channel to shame. It's getting pretty tiring and unoriginal to crap on a game simply because its in a similar setting as another, but maybe has less polish or can't live up to the high, subjective standard you have. Good gaming critics don't need to do these click-bait videos that crap all over a game simply for being a little less polished and pretty than another one with similar setting/theme. 2 different developers, game engines and art direction, and they take place in Japan with Samurai, but are 600 years apart. Rise isnt perfect, but neither is Ghost. Both have great combat, both are worth playing. Its one thing to highlight flaws or aspects that don't work too well, but be grateful and celebrate the fact that we get more Samurai fun and SUPERB combat mechanics and appreciate the hard work and dedication of this developer (with their very first attempt at open world) Do we really want a game that's exactly like Ghost? No, you'd just crap on it for being a clone. We can enjoy this one while we wait for Suckerpunch to release their sequel.

Just wanna remind that these reviewers gave Starfield a 10 out of 10. And we are talking about the very same person too! But... in 4 out of 5 of those things, Rise of the Ronin is superior by far. Other than that: Sound design, enemy variety, build variety, RPG mechanics and replay value. There, 5 things were RotR is massively superior to GoT.

As an enormous fan of Ghost of Tsushima (Personally my favorite game in the past 5 years) I 'm going to have to disagree on some of your points here. 1) Open world activities: Both games have the same type of side quest. They both suffer from repetitive structures. Liberate a town from Mongrols and bandits, save farmers in peril, fetch quest. The only thing that Ronin didn't do is have you follow a fox to shrines or a bird for cosmetic loot. Instead, they just placed the Icon on the map for you to go straight to the shrine to pray instead of running after a fox, and loot is dropped by enemies and found in chest. This is actually more player friendly and doesn't waste the players time chasing and running after things. The Haiku is the only thing in this section that I can agree that was a nice touch that put Ghost ahead. 2) immersive settings: There is way more NPC's in Ronin, and it feels waaayyy more alive than Ghost. There is hardly any NPC's other than enemies in Ghost, other than the random people being threatened or harassed by Mongols and bandits. The only point Ghost did better was the way point finding by following the wind, which set it apart of EVERY open world game. 3) Art Style: True, due to the environments of the game Ghost is much prettier looks at. However Ronin has some beautiful scenery too, but Team Ninja took more time in character models and textures than Suckerpunch. Especially the character customization. The character models are much more detailed in Ronin, and the cloth physics along with clothing options is much more expansive. 4) Storytelling: These are two different genres of games so it's unfair to compare the stories. Ghost is a linear pre-determined story of revenge, whereas Ronin is a decision-based game where you're in game decisions affect the outcome of the story being told. So of course, Ghost feels more coherent and less clunky because it isn't based on decisions the player makes. 5) Stealth is about the same TBH, especially after upgrading your character in Ronin. There is the exception of more powerful enemies not being able to be one shot assassinated that's annoying, but after upgrading your tools (porcelain lure balls) to add smoke or fire to them, you can do much of the same things. I'll give Ghost a minor leg up in stealth though since there are more tools to use.

Wow! What went wrong with Gaming Bolt? - with a game like this it was always going to be compared to ghost, it would be slated either way for copying or being different. Also compared to DD2 due to release date. It is possible that people can enjoy all 3 games without having to slate the others. There are several games that are bad and have not received the amount of backlash this game has. Wonder why?

It’s funny to see these inane little details compared in not just this video, but others as well - yet I still haven’t seen a video comparing the depth of combat, the brutality of the ai, the amount of combat styles available. But yeah, damnit, the arrows don’t break apart! Guess that trivializes how much more fun the combat systems are. It’s fun to think about the fact that even team ninja’s worst game in years: Wo Long even had had better combat and bosses than GoT.

After putting in a dozen hours into Rise of the Ronin, I can safely say it's not a Ghost of Tsushima cheaper imitation. GoT is very polished game that has a solid story (thought act 3 felt rushed) and an AAA experience, but TBH, I thought the world felt dead and lack role playing activities. RoR on the other hand, has a more complex and enjoyable fighting system, more characters to engage with, and overall more fun to spent time in. I hope GoT 2 takes come cue from RoR.

Because it's a ghost of tsushima rip off I mean the title menu screen is a direct copy of ghost and the sword stance combat and stealth as well but they didn't do it right on to of that they are trying to sell it at a higher price than ghost initial first day release price... The clowns at gamingbolt strike again, they aren't even the same genre, rise of the ronin is an action RPG, GoT was an action adventure, yes both were AAA open world games with a real time combat system and set in Japan but the similarities end there, the time period is completely different , they were 600 years apart and open world isn't a genre, it's a design style, open world tells you nothing about the genre, open world could be a FPS, open world could be an isometric ARPG, open world could be a MMO, GoT didn't even take place on mainland Japan, GoT was and is an overrated game, the graphics are good but that's about it, I'd rather have a game with mediocre graphics but actually has good combat and progression like RotR, GoT only two weapons, the katana and bow was all you got, RotR has 9 primary weapon types, not to mention a bunch of secondary weapons like guns as well, and the armor actually changes your stats unlike in GoT where the outfits are purely cosmetic, the progression in GoT was barebones and shallow
