Personally I wouldn't bother comparing stuff like Playstation 2, Wii, etc because those versions are simply emulated from the arcade. Unless there's something extremely wrong with the emulation (like Xbox version of Capcom Classics where Ghouls & Ghosts is too dark) then it's really not worth the time. It's like comparing how one ROM runs in ZSNES and the other in whatever other SNES emulators are out there (I don't follow the emulation scene). Stuff like the original PlayStation and Saturn would still be conversions and not emulation or ports so those would be good. However the "arranged" version of the game counts, IMO.

I own a PAL version of Fatal Fury on the SNES and can confirm that the "WAITING!" screen is a loading screen... which I could never understand why it would need one unless it was horribly ported... ... oh wait, it was.
@StevenCusic8 жыл бұрын
Lol
@Tempora1588 жыл бұрын
The "WAITING!" could be to load the audio samples into the audio RAM of the S-SMP, which is technically located outside of the SNES and is its own system (think Roland MT-32). All SNES games have to do that, they just don't throw up a loading screen to announce that fact.

The funny thing about this game is that it was being developed at the same time Street Fighter 2 was being developed. On top of that some of the drawbacks that you mentioned at the start of the video could have been due to Fatal Fury being designed by the same person who designed the First Street Fighter game.

actually i am pretty sure that the X68000 is more powerful than the neo geo.
@StevenCusic8 жыл бұрын
+MrDerOutsider well considering that the fatal fury x68000 port came out in 1992 when the x68000 model CZ-674C was out technically the CZ-674C was more impressive graphically as the Neo Geo could handle adpcm sound and no device was out to give x68000 that kind of audio. With scaling they are about equal neither is quite Sega super scaler quality. But where neo has it beat is the cartridges CZ-674C had 2mb ram, neo neo had memory for everything already around 100k each than think about how fatal fury rom is 4mb compressed.. That not even a uncompressed size and can load at around 95ns.
@StevenCusic8 жыл бұрын
+stevacus if the x68000 used cartridges that would have been crazy haha
@StevenCusic8 жыл бұрын
+MrDerOutsider ok so I found that the x68000 can do adpcm but only 1 channel using the OKI MSM6258 while the Neo Geo can do 6 or 7

The NEO GEO AES and NEO GEO CD are the same hardware. The only difference is the format; one being cartridge and one being CD. The ROMs are the same. Aside from loading, there really no reason to compare the same rom.
@StevenCusic8 жыл бұрын
Yea the Neo Geo Cd had so much dang memory in its hardware Ps1 had 1mb saturn had 2 not counting ram cartridges. The Neo cd well. 68000 Program Memory: 2 MB Fix Layer Memory: 128 KB Graphics Memory: 4 MB Sound Sample Memory: 1 MB Z80 Program Memory: 64 kB VRAM: 512Kb[5] (For graphics attributes) SRAM: 2 KB (For high scores / general save data) That's just friggen nuts....

The genesis port seems to work a lot better than the original but i remember the special attacks still being too hard to do anyway, could be perfect if they worked around some bugs. They did it later as fatal fury 2 was made on the same "engine". The snes was just a big mess, its been a long time but i can remember only awful controls

Developers were not used to SNES back in the days when this was release. When you compare to AoF 2 version, where even full zoom was decently emulated, you see how a skilled developer makes the difference
