Love my 10 shot Gamo Swarm. First bought a Umerex Octane nitro piston? After 50 shots the gas leaked out and it wouldent shoot any more. Took back to Cabela and they told me to call Umarex. Called and they said probably couldent help me. If I wanted to take it apart and ship it to them they would look at it. Put it in the corner and bought a Gamo. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. BUY THE GAMO!!!!

You're not missing with the .177, the pellets are falling out of the mag and you're shooting air. I've learned to hear the difference. I have both the .22 and the .177 swarm Maxxims as well and I have this same issue with the .177. Gamo even sent me a replacement 10X system for mine which I put on the gun and the same thing persists. The plunger in the reloader seems to be just a bit too short to seat the pellet fully into the .177's breach. I actually have a customer support entry with Gamo as of today about this and I'm waiting for them to reply to me. Look around and you'll find mashed up pellets on the ground that were crushed between the barrel breach and the rear portion of the rifle. Great video

Really enjoyed your comparison. I’ve been trying to decide on wether to get the .177, or the .22 cal rifle. I was impressed with the accuracy of the 22 cal. Probably the slower velocity helps with that, plus it’s a bit lighter to handle. I do have some critters around my property, so I think the 22 will be the one for me. Thank you, this really helped.

I purchased this sir rifle for fun shooting. I installed a 22 cal rifle scope on it. I could not get good groups. I replaced it with a 3X9 variable air force scope. After locking it down and shooting groups I zeroed it at 35 yards. It drives tacks with the gamo red 17 7 pellets. I can knock the heads off sparrows at 35 yds. At 50 yards I'm penetrating slider shells. I am very impressed with this air rifle. It is very accurate!! 😍

Some pellets have extremely poor accuracy in my 4.5mm Gamo, the pellets might easily go 10cm off the target at 30 meters, while others are just fine. The ones that I have tried and which work well in my Gamo are Gamo Match Classic and Gamo Pro Magnum. Both are very inexpensive pellets, about one euro cent (or dollar cent) per each.

I have both versions of the Maxxim Gen 2 Rifles, and they are both deadly accurate, especially the .177. I would recommend swapping out the Gamo scopes for Hawke AO 3-9x40 scopes, they are about 110 USD a piece, but they are far and away the best budget scope you can get. Also as far as the pellets, I would recommend either domed or hollowpoint for best accuracy.

The .177 cal weighs 0.2 lbs more than the .22 cal because the barrel bore on the .177 cal is smaller, thus the barrel has more material. The .barrel on the 22 cal is bored out larger, and thus weighs less.

Nice shooting Ben. With the engineering Gamo pulled off. Here is what I think should be Gamo's next engineering improvements!!! The best nitro piston air rifle Gamo could make with their existing technology would be called "The Gamo CFR Swarm Maxxim or Magnum. Gamo should take their under lever cocking CFR and engineer into this rifle a 10 shot magazine into it making a .177 and .22 calibers. The Gamo CFR has amazing feature in its stock and are incredible accurate because of their fixed barrels. These rifles will not suffer from barrel droop over time like all the break barrel rifles. also there would be no magazine interference with the sights on the rifle because the magazine and loading mechanisms would be internal. Ben do you have any experience with the CFR??? What do you think of this combination?

If pellet weight is like archery weight vs power it is important to match weight to power. if arrows are too light they wont give you a good group specially if it is at a high velocity. I have a fast shooting pellet rifle and proved my theory. all my light pellets went all over the target but when I used heavy pellets they were more stable in flight and got a better group.

@megastick9324
@megastick9324 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, to get good comparisons one should shoot the most common weights in each caliber. Stepping one way up or down to make the weights the same is a faulty comparison. The 22 shoots almost double the weight of the 177, that’s not a good comparison. Select pellets in the range normally used and compare accuracy of each. Comparing a .45 with a 230gr bullet to a 9mm that would shoot 115-147 gr and asking either to match up would be the same idea. One will be way out of its zone.

I put a BSA with AO on my .177 bull whisper and a better mount. World of difference. Groups tightened up tight. For backyard plinking I guess the package scope is ok, but for actual hunting and pest control, a better scope is a must have. I probably spent close to the same for scope and mount as I did the gun, but it’s a keeper now.

For plinking and target, you can’t beat the .177. You get way more pellets for your money, they’re accurate and flat shooting. But for killing anything, the .22 is where it’s at.

Not quite. I use 22 and 177 I have used 177 for hunting using heavy magnums better than most 22 regular pellets. 22 with slower speed need a medium weight pellet to be effective.

I thought GAMO has these rated at 1300 FPS. Why are you getting around 1/2 that speed?
@ShootingGearReviews
@ShootingGearReviews 5 жыл бұрын
1300 FPS is with super light non led ammo. Besides 1300 fps in a break barrel is utterly useless because the pellet is not stable at that velocity. Slower speeds make them WAY more accurate. not too slow but not 1300 fps for sure. Also, FYI the high FPS claims made by the manufactures are just marketing hype to get people that dont know any better to buy the air rifle. Experienced airgunners know better ;)

Gamo were not the first to manufacture a multi-shot break barrel rifle, there was a multi-shot break barrel rifle manufactured many years ago which I seen footage on a documentary about this, unfortunately I can't remember the name of the manufacturer. The reason they didn't become popular at the time was due to too many glitches in the mechanism. I believe Gamo are probably the first to manufacture a successful multi-shot break barrel rifle with very few if any glitches.

@@CaptTurbo Hey, thanks for the reply. I am looking at getting an air rifle, but being in France, I am limited in power and models (especially since I do not have a hunting licence). I think I have finally decided on a 22, so now the search begins for a reasonably priced, good shooting one. As the "better half" has control over the finances, I am really limited :( All the Gamo models seem sooo similar that they are basically the same, yet so many people have different opinions on each and every one. I guess the search goes on. ;)
@CaptTurbo

@@_Andrew._ I think the magnum does stand out as being more powerful than the Maxxim but I have no doubt the Maxxim is plenty strong enough to take small game. The one thing that stands out to me about the Maxxim is that there are no fixed sites on it. You will need a scope or optics of some kind. I'm 60 years old now so I do better with optics anyway but a young person with sharper vision might well value open site capability. Good luck in your decision making. I don't think you can lose with any of them. Oh wait, the magnum does take some muscle to cock. I need to use both hands to do it.

@@dalton6786 you forget the law of physics... Weight is affected by gravity and external forces like wind, rain atmospheric pressure. So Velocity depends on the projectile. I have the .177 and I've tried lashing the thing down to my Caldwell to minimize PRE-coil hoping for tighter groups and better accuracy, to NO avail. The pre-coil is just inherent with this type of discharge mechanism in the .177and nothing can be done about it. It looks like the "lighter" .22 doesn't exhibit the same issue though as your video comparison shows. I'm stuck with it being what it is. Maybe premium pellets would help but probably not much since the problem really seems to be the discharge mechanism and is a rifle problem, not the pellets. Thanks for the video.

@@dwindew The difference can vary from , noticable, to a completely new rifle, that will have huge difference, than the gun it was before tune.. Just get it, to someone that knows what to do and what kit to choose! It's not very difficult or time consuming to add a kit, but the man that will add the new parts, has to be experienced. Also, you can search the internet, for opinions on pellets. It doesn't have to be very expensive ones, just the pellets, that you barrel likes! That means, that you have to experiment, on target shooting and with different pellets. (a fast internet search, on what pellets, your rifle likes more, can make things work faster and for the better).
