From the 1978 Lord of the Rings animated film. Two things: First, apparently they dropped the S from Saruman to help distinguish him from Sauron. Second, that's actually my roommate in the background saying "Fucker! God (dammit)," not studio noise of "marker, cut!" I recorded this with my phone at the time.

For anyone wondering why Gandalf says "Aruman" - The character Saruman is sometimes pronounced "Aruman" throughout the film. Feedback from test screenings revealed that many in the audience were confused by the similarity between the names "Sauron" and "Saruman" so it was decided to change the name of the latter in post-prodcution. However, this was not applied consistently and both "Saruman" and "Aruman" are mentioned numerous times.

opposite way, the producers at United Artists demanded the film be written/recorded with everyone saying "Aruman" because they thought this would confuse audiences, but when the entire film was already recorded and went into post-production, they decided to change it back to "Saruman" and they tried sneaking in as many re-recordings of lines that originaly said "Aruman" into Saruman as they were doing adr to bridge some of the story gaps with exposition. You can find old storyboards from this movie where the character name is listed as Aruman.

My dad showed my brothers and I this movie years ago and a joke we still make today is Sam saying "Don't let him turn me into a dog, Mr. Frodo." Specifically the Mr. Frodo part. In the book Galndalf catches Sam eavesdropping on his plans about the ring with Frodo, yanking him through the window and scolding him before declaring that sam must join the fellowship. So this behavior makes perfect sense in that in his wisdom Gandalf determined sam must be there, but the circumstances of his introduction would still have Gandalf, especially this version, annoyed with him. So Samwise Gamgee is the perfect candidate for the immortal wizard to act like a total cook at. Lets be honest, as divine and wise as gandalf is, there is a part of him that just wants to be weird to the people and cultures he has seen arise around him. I am only about 40, and i catch myself being weird toward gen-Zers from time to time. The only Difference is that a lot of Gen-Zers will be weird right back, or recognize i am being playful and inviting them to respond in kind. Samwise though, a simple hobbit, wouldn't think anything like that, and would just be skittish around the towering ancient wizard, despite the fact the dude has been coming to his village his entire life.
