Gandhi and Tagore: Civil Debate - A Hallmark of the Past?

In present day India, it is very difficult to find leading public figures debating and discussing issues, their agreements and disagreements with civility. One shining example of such civil debate is the remarkable intellectual exchange between Gandhi and Tagore. In this episode of Present, Past and the Future, Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay talks to historian, Mridula Mukherjee about the need for such a constructive debate in today's India, drawing inspiration from the high philosophical plane to which Gandhi and Tagore elevated political debate.

Tagore 's " Ghare Baire " was the example how He rejected the theory of burning foreign goods .Even Gandhi collected Rs 40,000 for Shantiniketan which were badly needed that point of time

Gandhi Ji talked about survival of Indians through the so called national element. For Tagore the full view of the world was important and all the humans were his family. One got Nobel price but Gandhi Ji didn’t get it. Yet Gandhi Ji is more divine than Tagore at least by a small margin.
