Literally right there by the Nickerson Garden and the Imperial Courts projects in South central/Compton and Willowbrook. I'm a land surveyor. I usually show up very early in the AM to these areas. And I leave in the early afternoon. I'm never there after dark or anything. But there are a lot of regular ordinary people, there. It's mostly black but many more Hispanics too have moved in. There are a lot of people who live in these neighborhoods who don't get themselves involved in any trouble. They have jobs and kids. And they go about their life as you or I do. It's a small %. Usually always young males. (Without a father) that is key. Only a few if any of these gangsters have a father who is present and not a criminal too. He said that too half way into the video. That his father was hard on him. But even he can see how much power and strength that gave him later on to deal with the trouble he came across and now he's got a good relationship with him. Idk about that either my father is and always was very kind and loving. I'm kind of following his footsteps in my career because he was a surveyor too. I am a father too now and my life has also been changed by finding God and Jesus Christ again. I really enjoyed this guys interview. Sorry for the long story. I just wanted to point out that I think it has more to do with just the neighborhood. Because I have a bunch of friends who became total screw ups and criminals even tho we grew up white in the suburbs. People are broken and it usually happens at home. Not in your neighborhood.

I left prison with a pretty serious felony on my record that kept me from getting jobs at first, but I eventually proved myself at low paying jobs enough to climb the ladder. I now have a beautiful family and own a home. It’s not easy, but I promise if you just keep doing the next right thing, the days stack up and before you know you’re life becomes something to proud of. Stay the course, you got this!!!

I can relate to every word this man said. Grew up the same way. Came home from prison and was “locked up. When I was locked up I was livin.” My life played out the same way. Except that I lost my father in prison. Came home to nothing and nobody. He gave me many answers. Especially about why our fathers did what they did. I’m doing great now. Doing better than I’ve ever been. Came such a long way. Though I hate my past. Sometimes I’m thankful for it. Takes a lot to move forward. Takes much to try and erase it.

Never in my every day life would I meet anyone like Tyson. Our paths just wouldn’t cross and if they did I would judge him by his tattoos and certainly not have a real conversation with him. He said "talk to teach, and listen to learn" intelligent man. My father was abusive and I wanted to hurt him my whole childhood and carried my hate through adulthood. He apologized to me when I was 35 and I cannot express how freeing that was. I have learned how traumatic his story was and he explained why he reacted to his family through the anger he was experiencing at that time in our lives. Seeing the joy in Tyson talking about having the father he probably always wanted is beautiful. You can see him light up. To the parents who feel they owe their kids an apology, you do, and it will be one of the greatest gifts you will ever give.

@@dangrimes5078 you can go right where you are, haha: try meditating. Plenty of how-to videos on KZbin. It's kind of a challenge, but at the same time the easiest thing you could try. It gives you a little distance between your emotions and what you decide to do, that little second of time to "watch" from outside and be able to choose not to engage in a fight. And you will learn more things about yourself. It's actually kind of an adventure in internal space, and kind of exciting.

If you want peace you have to let go of the ego. It’s ok to walk away. It’s ok to smile instead of frown. It’s ok to let someone else be angry and want to cause trouble. Let them keep all that trouble for themselves. Instead you are jumping in to share the trouble with them. That’s a choice. It can go either way and it’s up to you. You don’t need to dominate people. You can just walk away from bad people and leave them alone.

My dad grew up like this, in fear of his father. They got into a fight and my dad whooped him when he was 15, and that was it. He also hid and made weapons to fend his father off. I can’t get over the shame that he brought upon my dad that lasted a lifetime though-never standing up to people who tried to control him, never standing up for his children out of fear, and always feeling like he was to blame for everything. My dad passed away one week ago at 72, and he talked about these things til the day he died.

I’ve met people like him who become a product of their environment but are so incredibly bright and can contribute soooo much to society! It looks like he regrets a lot of the actions he made. I literally took a moment to pray for this man. As a young boy he really did need discipline but he also needed and still does need love. I believe that if his father were to throw his arms around him, and tell how much he loves him and how sorry he is, we would fall to pieces in his dad’s arms. He needs it.

I am sure he needed discipline like we all do, but not at all the type he got from his father (not physical , period). Receiving whoppings that draw blood and fearing his father so much that he had to sleep with knives under his pillow is inexcusable. He broke his son and made his life miserable. But i agree that his father apologizing and making his son feel loved, would help to heal their relationship. Seems like he is on a good path though,, as he accepted what happened in the past, learned from his mistakes and knows theres a better future for him.
