For me, "Moment of Truth" is the best Gang Starr album (and it's really HARD to put this one in font of the others, given the fact that there's no single bad album in their discography) IDK, everything is just right where it's supposed to be with this one and Guru and Premier absolutely perfected and mastered their skills up to that point. And the fact that it came out in 1998, when hip hip was not nearly as strong as it used to be just makes it even more valuable. One of the few beacons of light to follow in the dark of the perishing hip hop scene of late 90's.

When this song came out in ‘98, I remember too many cats who had been GangStarr fans since ‘89 accused Guru and Premo of selling out because they did a song with K-Ci and JoJo. While this is definitely about the most radio-friendly crossover song that GangStarr ever recorded, I still think it’s a damn good one and that Guru’s rhymes are easily up to par with anything else he’s spat, if not better. Plus, it was just kinda nice to see Guru and Prim finally get the mainstream recognition that I always thought they deserved. “Crossing over” is not always bad if it’s done well, and if you’re introducing the mainstream to your style rather than biting someone else’s; I think this song is an example of the right way to do it.
