I am glad that you pointed out blood effect towards the end. In fact, Anurag Kashyap was kind of disappointed by it. But, they couldn't rectify it much because of budget constraints, like you guessed too. You said it's a bit cartoony. But, if you think about it, it kind of works cinematically, because despite of the film being so brutal and serious there is a cartoonish Undertone to it. It's a dark comedy, a satire and a serious film at the same time. Sometimes how in Quentin Tarantino's films characters just walk funny, and talk funny, despite of being brutal killers. In the documentary 'The Pervert's Guide to Cinema', Slavoj Zizek talks about something similar about the Villain's in David Lynch's films. The violent outbursts are so obscene that after a while it becomes funny. Usually we are sensitized to movie violence, but when things get so ridiculously over the top in terms of obscenity that we start to question how could we enjoy this. In a way, sometimes filmmakers address why violence is wrong by using violence itself. Similarly, how Fellini uses sexism in his films, it gets so over the top that even if you are a sexist person you'll feel ridiculously frustrated by looking at it. He uses sexism to address sexism. Basically there is a tipping point in our toleration capacity, after which it's numbing. And when you get out of that numbness, during your moments of clarity, you start to have a sort of minor enlightenment about these things, and likely see the world a lot differently. It's not just about giving some information or message but an attempt to imprint these ideas in your head, you can't unsee what you have seen, and in order not to see them in your head or in your community (Violence and Sexism, however low key they might be), you have to change your outlook itself. However, all these crystalizing moments have to be supported by glorious storytelling, and a clear intention to show that you can't get away from the consequences of your actions. Cinema at its finest.

Nice that you guys picked on the scene of Ramadhir unraveling the secret of his longevity. In a country that makes so many movies, there is always a character in some movie that identifies and resonates with, idolizes and aspires to be. In the midst, people do tend to lose track of aspirations in real and on reel - that is their downfall. So Faizal grows up watching the character of Amitabh Bachchan from Trishul and the orphaned feeling resonates. His dichotomy is always if I'm Amitabh or Shashi Kapoor from Trishul. Perpendicular looks up to Sanjay Dutt and Definite to Salman Khan.

Anurag Kashyap movies are, as opposed to popular belief, anti-violence. He shows the ugliness of violence, de-glorifies and even mocks gangsters (opposite to Vaastav). Breaks the myth that gangsters are anti-heroes. They are ugly clowns. When wrath and pride fill your heart and you feel like the anti-hero, Anurag Kashyap shows you the mirror and tells you how miserable it looks. He makes you feel disgusted towards those emotions that otherwise could feel empowering. Piyush Mishra's lyrics signify and amplify this point of view.

Quick Remark about the last scene over kill. He uses three guns to finish Ramadheer because of the promise he made in the past. Father's revenge, brother's revenge, grand father's revenge. Thought that was a good touch. Also, I should add that the chase sequence in the movie where they refill gas was a very guerilla type shoot on the main city roads. The chase sequence was a last moment change.

And damn I grew up in Dhanbad. 😂 Didn’t know soo much was happening when I was 4. But I remember the Bank more area was full of thugs, gangs and other criminals of all types. Recently the mayor of Dhanbad city of shot dead near the Big Bazaar Mall. That was the last big gang related crime that I heard of. So this gang war is still alive, the real story is a but different but most of it is based on true story. Thankfully I ain’t living there anymore.😅

Loved hearing your thoughts on the film, Achara and Syntell! I loved the film, but hadn't seen it since 2012, so I forgot a lot of details, especially from Part II, so it was fun and interesting to "watch along". I hope the two of you will be doing one of those for another film soon! Cheers from the Netherlands.

33:28 if you see movies that came in 60s to 90s (from most of them) you will understand what Ramadheer Singh meant 36:54 but For Bollywood it was not Gangsta movies, For Bollywood it was to be a hero and do incredible things which are not possible in real life like 1 guy single handedly defeated dozens of people with weapons, like a man going from rags to riches in 4, 5 seconds in a movie - going from rags to riches is possible but one gets an impression that it will be in very small time they take that 4, 5 seconds to a few years but the reality is going from rags to riches takes a lot time and that too a small fraction do, next is that the stupid romance it taught calling girls with some derogatory term as funny and the girl loves you. Also it portrayed a lot of illogical decisions made as good and heroic One more thing a lot sensuality So Ramadheer meant that cinema (of the time) misguides you, fools you

They have made billions in it and ultimately become so power politically that even manage to kill one Supretendent of police there in 90s. And Ramadhir Singh is one of those mafias.
