I love the build of this place. A couple changes I would make for personal preference is for the TV to be on a rotating base so it can rotate to face the bedroom or the living room. And in the kitchen, add a small gas cooktop. And if possible shoehorn in a washer dryer combo hidden behind a cupboard door or somesuch.

Love it.! Wonder if the tv could be mounted to a "backboard" about the size of the tv. And have it be able to swivel or rotate 180 degrees to face the bed? Then one could watch in either area and its could take care of not seeing the back side of tv in either "room". None the less, really like the whole space!

Plenty of space on the back wall between the bed and the bathroom for a clothes closet if the sliding barn door was instead a cavity slider. To make the place more suitable for long term accommodation, the divider between the bed area and the living room could be closed in to allow more privacy and more storage. The tv could be mounted on a stand that allowed it to rotate and be seen from both the bedroom and the living area.

If I were to live in a place like that longer term I'd want a bigger fridge and a real stove with cooktop and oven. Also, regarding the exposed back of the TV, you could hang a dark blue patterned tapestry from the shelf above the TV to cover it, and from the other side, the tapestry would serve as background so that your eyes can really focus on the TV without the distraction of the bedroom behind.

@ChazEvansdale4 жыл бұрын
They could make a back plate for the TV with art to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Since it's in a central area of the place they should have spent more time on it and the cable management to make it cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing. I love the color scheme. I do acknowledge that open concepts are a necessity in very tiny places, but I want a private bedroom, especially if there's a guest on the couch. Even a pony wall would make a difference, and perhaps curtains. I mean SOME privacy, okay? What if one person wants to watch TV at midnight while another went to bed at 9? While pretty, this is like a fancy motel room. I'd rather have a cozy walled-in bedroom. Or my own solution to too much open space, a three-paneled folding screen. Easy to decorate to suit the color scheme, easy to move around, and the Shoji screens let light through.

How about if you put one under the bathroom sink cabinet like ASKO Washer Dryer; 3. Need a fourth chair at table? Why not use a bench and two chairs; 4. Kitchen dishwasher drawer and one sink with disposed. Add a cooktop that plugs in and stores when not in use from IKEA. 5. Get a real mini fridge and put it where oven is. 6. Put convection and microwave next to the door. 7. Change door swing to opposite direction.

A lot of great comments for a solution, but I have a couple more I haven't seen yet. You could mount the TV on the pole with a bracket, I'm thinking of some U-bolts mounted to a plate and a piece of pipe or PVC in the center, cut in half, going around the mounted pipe. A piece of pipe with a set screw could be attached below it with something, maybe a flat washer on top. The TV could rotate to either side. Another option is just put a TV on the backside and run a splitter to them so you can play the same thing on either TV. I know the Roku app lets you listen to the audio without wires, so the other person could watch something different.

Nice video. Im working on doing the same with my rental home ( turning garage into a studio apt. ) My only issue is this is good for a air BNB and not a true apartment. Why? Because that refrig just wont do. You'll need a full sized frig that will take up a ton of space, which is the problem i'm having.. where to put that behemoth? Plus I need a space for the hot water heater. Also, there is no space to do laundry, install even a stacked washer/dryer. Plus, there is near zero closet space. Again, only good for a Air BNB type apt. All in all a great video, but this is for air BNB or something attached to someones home. Not for a bonified fully seperate apartment, which i'm mapping out. I have made room for a 7 foot closet, washer/dryer, hot water heater, and full sized frig with s top freezer. AS well as a over, range, etc. as well as much more kitchen closet space. Sadly this also means a lot less space.

The painting is the first thing I would throw out, and replace by a large mirror, creating the illusion of a larger space. All the rest is very attractive and has even a bit of a sixties ring to it. The space to hang clothes next to the TV, I would hide from sight with short curtains. There is a shelf above it, so you could attach a curtain with a small rod or with velcro. You could do the same to hide the back of the TV if you like, or simply put the TV on a swiveling base and that way you could also watch TV in bed. (I just read in the comments underneath that this possibility is foreseen, so much the better!) :D

I love the idea of this, I'm just curious as to how this would go about happening. Buy a plot of land, build a garage? make it into a home? Buy a property, with an abandoned garage and or storage like building, and restore it into a home? What other situation could outcome to this unique lifestyle.

They should add a larger TV and hang it from a bracket so it can be turned around and watched from either the living room or the bedroom. A larger TV would add more privacy in the two rooms too. But still, I love what they've done in this garage. Its beautiful.
