Garage Door Keypad Fix - Repair, Clean, Not Replace

Easy fix was I used 9s forever, now I use 8s. Try one of these solutions to repair your a garage door opener keypad. Start by looking over the manual for common problem advice. The answer could be an incorrect code or no power.
Cold weather affects the connections due to temperature or condensation. Also, dirt from construction or lawn debris after many seasons can build-up over the contacts.
Changing the code works sometimes because over time the buttons wear on the same numbers. This works if you have used the same number for years or only use the same row of numbers like 4-5-6.
Check the power because it could be the broken or loose wire connection, tripped breaker or dead battery.
One customer lost his garage door opener code after a power outage.
Finally, replace the garage keypad with a universal garage door opener keypad, like Chamberlain.

This worked!!!! My keypad box is sealed so the "Enter" button still is sticky/tricky, but the new numbers seemed to have helped. Luckily a replacement is only $20, so if it keeps sticking, I'll buy a new one. But it's better than the $150 my garage door installer said he would charge to replace the big wall button and the keypad.

I was hoping you might have disassembled the keypad. Ours doesn't have screws in the back and looks like the back comes off, but no luck so far. I've cleaned motherboard contacts with rubbing alcohol with good success. The rubber button pad however (or any rubber pad, say in a game controller) don't really like alcohol for some reason. And it's difficult to clean them with. I would recommend using mild dish soap and warm water. Maybe with a soft scrubbing pad or a sponge like they sell for non-stick pans for a dollar. Now... if I could only get this damn thing open and potentially save myself and my mom $35 on a replacement lol.

They can’t close, unless you hold the inside button down, usually means the eyes are out of adjustment. The ‘eyes’ a foot off the floor that prevents the door from crushing somebody.

Last video I saw from a guy who tried the eraser trick broke the housing trying to remove the keypad circuit board to get to the contacts. Got any better ideas?

Is there a way to clean or replace the number pad? Mine is stained from repeated usage. I tried 409 & a bleach solution but numbers are still yellowed. We could I guess change the code, but that would be hard on my developmentally disabled son.

There just might be a technical department representing the manufacturer of your keypad. A call to them would be my best solution.

Its also to do with the temperature and the battery. When it's cold the battery doesn't work right. . So youre just locked out until it warms up i guess.

Cheryl LoPresti ...word up!!! Get a small FLAT screwdriver and push the BOTTOM part of the keyboard pad DOWN. Take off battery & unscrew the single screw from the keypad. Now push UP entire unit (keypad) and keypad will come off.

Either take it to a locksmith or a Kwikset dealer that can reset it, or take it where it was purchased and get a new replacement guaranteed.
