Garage Door Keypad not working? Easy fix. Lets also make it brighter

In this video we tear down and repair my garage door keypad.
The buttons no longer work because they are worn out.
I will show you an easy fix that you can do for FREE!
Also, the keypad lights up when you press a button but it's very dim. I will
replace the LED's with brighter ones. We also go over how the circuit works using a schematic that I found online.
This fix will work for Liftmaster, Chaimberlan, Craftsman and just about any other garage door keypad.
UPDATE:
I had to redo this using aluminum foil tape. The glue did not hold the regular foil in place. After a few months it started coming off for a couple of the keys. The aluminum tape has been working great so far.

An easy way to use the foils is, to cut a piece a little larger then the key pad & place the super glue on each pad. Then stick the whole piece on the keypad. Using a sharp knife, or razor blade just cut around each individual pad. That way you don't have to mess with little pieces of foil.

I'm having an intermittent issues with my keypad. Backlit gets on, but most of the times 4 digit combination followed by the Enter will not work from the first attempt and typically would work from the second attempt. You made a great circuit analysis on how the whole thing get powered up from the deep sleep state and made me to ask myself "is it possible that transient process of being powered off is long enough to prevent chip from registering the first digit press?" That could explain why it works from the second attempt, when the whole circuit is already powered on

Yes i have had this keypad for over 10 years and that happens randomly since day one. I think it is an issue with the first keypress when it wakes up as you described.

@@signalsandbits I'll try to add a reed switch that will "wake up" the circuit when rare earth miniature magnet attached to the cover passes it.

There is a resistance that keeps the voltage at 4.8 is strange. I don't know why they would not have 5 volts, unless they are figuring that the battery is actually not 9 volts, but higher , so the actual voltage is probably 5 volts if you measure it and goes down to 4.8 as the battery wears out

They sell replacement keypads for all the garage door systems. They are about 30 dollars.
