My door motor made a similar sound. The large capacitor measured fine. I dissambled the motor and determined that it's bearings (two) didn't readily allow the shaft thru them to readily spin. Problem solved by cleaning and lubricating them with a high quality "dry" bicycle chain lub. I also applied lub (based on white lithium) to the long screw. Reassembled and works great; even reduced the closing and opening force (potentiometer adjustments). And quiet! Found a manual specifying annual lubrication. This hadn't been done in the 14 years I lived here, and possibly neither in the 12 years before that when it was new.

Update. My motor still would stall. Examined play of axel, approx 1/16 inch which isn't much but caused this induction motor to stall. I wrapped 2 turns on aluminum tape on Axel, that eliminated space between Axel and bushing. Has worked so far; 100 open/closings. (Unable to dislodge bushing, so couldn't install a new one.)

I'm having the same issue. I ordered the exact same voltage Capacitor for replacement. After i replaced with new one and it works for 2-3 times opened & closed. Then, smoke came out from Capacitor and doesn't work anymore. My garage opener is Genie. Could you please advise when you have a chance? Thanks.

arc the orange to the yellow. its best to use an appropriately sized resistor. Although when its leaking there usually wont be any voltage stored. cheers

My Genie doesn't make any noise. But if I interrupt the power, it starts to work normally for a few hours to a few days. Then silence again. Is that a start capacitor or a run capacitor?

I got the same problem with my garage door opener too, humming sound but not up or down. So I ordered a capacitor from Amazon, the same link. Yesterday, I replaced the capacitor, it seems work for while. Afternoon and today, I try it again, it is not working again. Just the humming sound I heard. Is the capacitor blown again, or maybe a faulty capacitor I just purchased?

Take the cover off the power head and see if you can rotate the motor. I can access the motor. I can turn my motor but the opener goes completely silent after a few hours to a few days until I recycle the power. I have no idea why this happens.

Could still be the capacitor. You can look up how to check if the capacitor is still working. Doesn't need to be leaking to be bad.

If it's a Chamberlain, they make a gear kit fix. I did it; not too bad. I called the co. for the part & gave the model #.

My garage door will not open. The light in the motor is not on. I checked the breaker and it is fine. I have no sensor light, remote control is not workin by the back door nor the remote in my car. Nothing is working.

Mine does the same no lights either. It sill lights up the door sensors though, and pushing in the program button red light flashes. But it is like it is dead otherwise.
