Thanks for the video Brad. Saved me a service call and a capacitor replacement. That's provided the service guy identified that as being the problem and didn't try to rip me off saying i needed a new one.

You sir are a genius. Mine would hesitate when it’s below 40 degrees. I found the capacitor partially damaged and had buildup on the terminals. I replaced it from amazon and now it opens with so much force it feels it’s going to rip the door off. Liked and sub’d and thank you!!!

Had the same exact problem with my 30 year old garage door opener (humming noise when pressing the opener). I ordered a new capacitor for $13 and replaced it in 5 minutes and BOOM all good!!! Thanks for saving me a ton of money - we’ll see how much longer this old garage door opener works before having to replace it, but I’ll take a $13 fix over replacing the opener and paying for a service call any day!!!

I had the same problem with my capacitor. It had blown and was smoking during operation. I replaced it with one that was "too big" for the housing but the door worked fine the first few passes. But NOW it only moves about a foot before it stops. It seems like the whole thing shuts off on some kind of failsafe because I cant operate it again until ITS ready. Kinda at the end of my rope here...I checked every other "problem area" and since I didnt mess with anything else Im not sure what the issue is. Any ideas?

My 1/2 HP Genie made the same noise. Looking at capacitor I don't seen anything obviously wrong. When I disconnect the screw drive, the motor DOES run. The collar between the motor and screw drive looks fine but replaced that anyway. Same hum when connected. Can a bad capacitor cause motor to not work under load? If not capacitor I'm wondering if there iis binding of the screw drive (dirt in grease or other)

Hi... I have a Genie Pro garage door opener and one of the sensors is green and the other one is red. I have the wiring and they are OK. The other problem that I have is that the opener is humming. Please advise. Thank you.
@PongoXBongo2 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the obstruction sensors down by either side of the door, then those colors indicate that the sensing beam is not aimed properly from one sensor to the other. The one that is green is likely the transmiting sensor, and it being lit green indicates that it is receiving power. The one that is red is likely the receiving sensor, and it being lit red indicates that it is not receiving the beam from the transmitter sensor. There should be a wing nut, or similar, just behind the bracket from the receiving (red lit) sensor, just loosen that and move the sensor around to re-aim it until its light turns green, then re-tighten to keep it there. . I had a similar issue, which prevent my garage door from fully closing properly (it would start, stop, and flash) since the opener thought the path was obstructed as it couldn't see the beam clearly enough (mine was slightly flickering green instead of fully red). Re-aligning the two sensors cleard the phantom obstruction and now the door works as expected again.

Same for me. I replaced the capacitor and coupler (which I found was not worn out) no dice. Still buzzing. Hoping not the motor here to. I think mine may be the screw drive itself binding. At 2:18 in his video he clearly says, "First thing you're going to want to do before getting in here and going crazy, is always pull the plug." Even shows the plug in the video. Didn't say to discharge the capacitor, but did say to pull the plug and did so before he continued. Did you short something with it still plugged in? With your screwdriver? Regardless, you should always be careful working inside of anything powered by 120-220 volt outlets. Especially if they have capacitors.
