I know this video is 6 years old now.. But still... Video's like this are timeless... Seeing someone new, Learning how to paint, Learning tips and tricks on how to give great results..... So damn good to see... And spraying metallic silver too!!! In my opinion.. The hardest colour to get correct..... As i say.. Timeless :)

great to see other professionals use the same techniques that I picked up as well. Like when doing 2 tones; on panels after you mask off the lower color you need to run tape along the gaps also to prevent overspray of the top color going down and through the gaps then landing on the lower color.

Masking rope/aperture tape would help with the door jambs. Leaving the aperture tape slightly recessed in the door jambs would help prevent hard lines

Thanks for showing us how to paint are projects at home. I was wondering how much single stage acrylic paint I can make in advance to fill my gun for I don't have to stop and make it while I'm spraying? Also how much CFM do you recommend for exhaust for a 20 X 20 home made spray booth? Thanks again for all of your time and help, I appreciate it.

How much of a benefit would this spray booth set up be as opposed to just spraying outside? I've sprayed a boat outside recently with 2 pac gloss white, and had trouble getting a good gloss off the gun without it running or getting dry spray in places. I got there in the end but it took a few shit coats being sanded back smooth and resprayed. I want to respray my 80 series landcruiser in a gloss black 2 pack but I'd like to give myself the best chance of doing it right the first time and not doing my prep 100 times and wasting money on paint. I live on a property so fuming the neighbours isn't a problem.
@Bytrl7 жыл бұрын
nick denton man its just tough spraying white in general and I think 2 pack white is even harder. Its just tough to see how its going on. Too much thinner and it runs unless you turn that fluid in. Too little fluid though and you've got patchy finish with the 2 pack. So I've got 2 tips for 2 pack. Thin to 20%, turn your fluid in a bit, and don't go for finish on those first 2 coats. Really treat it like basecoat and let it flash off. It will not look glossy. On your last coat, keep all your settings the same and just do double headers over every pass to make sure its a wet coat, but also ensure youre not overloading it. Basically just play it safe and turn that fluid in. We are not the gunman. He makes everything look easy. lol 2 pack white is the hardest man.
@leadingseamanphilbillingto1007 жыл бұрын
Josh Kritzky thanks for the advice. I reckon a lot of my problems come from trying to get it on wet and glossy in 2 coats. Thankfully the boats all painted now. Massive learning curve, being my first paint job ever. I'll probably use the same paint in gloss black on the land cruiser but I'll do that one inside the shed I reckon. Appreciate the help mate!

What happened to the rip on the butt of your suit gunman? Damn pesky tape. Great job both of you. Gotta be hot given how fast that paint flashes. You have my sympathy. Great makings of an apprentice also.
Great video Gunny, I like that you fellas have done a respray in a shed. Was looking at how the prep was done on the work area with the fans, lights and clean floor. I am looking at doing my Corvette in my shed, as I can get it on my 4 post hoist to spray it...that bugger is low. Was thinking of getting a inflatable spray booth, but will look at the shed idea again and use the $2500 towards shed cleaning and prep and beer afterwards. I would take it to a booth, but being two tone and I am looking at flow coat, I would prefer to do it at home with all the dicking around with two tone colours and the week between the first clear shot and the flow coat clear...tilt trays are expensive.

Angel FernandeZ overspray on ‘wet’ flattens down. Overspray on dry dries, leaving texture to potentially print through when you get down there with wet.
