I use 2K at home without an air fed mask as well. Once I’m done spraying, I don’t stand around breathing it in. I get out of the garage in to the fresh air. To me, there’s minimal risk as long as you’re sensible and you’re not doing it without an air fed mask day in day out.

In your opinion, what causes clear coat adhesion issues, such as peeling and flaking clear after 3 months if being sprayed?
@dropinbiking926 жыл бұрын
Could be a few things. If it's peeling from basecoat, the basecoat could have been too dry. Accelerated clear can cause delamination issues on its own. Poor prep could also cause delamination.
@Driftmonkey6 жыл бұрын
Hahaha *nudge nudge wink wink*
@TheGunmanChannel6 жыл бұрын
I rarely see it. Is it flaking from areas there is basecoat?
@IntegraDIY6 жыл бұрын
The Gunman yes, peeling and flaking right on top of base coat, leaving base coat fully intact just without clear.. usually at the edges but can peel also where if taking masking tape off, it’ll easily pull clean off
@iSTRANGERXIII6 жыл бұрын
The Gunman sounds like it was not sanded completely.. so if not sanded completely the fresh paint has no where to hold and grab and if there’s old clear specially happens on edges well the paint will just flake off iven with tape pulling it right off..

Hiya Gunman. Here's my issue. I'm learning and i think do a reasonable spray job, thanks to your help ;-) However, when I rub clear coat flat to get rid of orange peel, I get to the point where there is still some peel (may 10-15%), but as a rub more the color starts to come up, which indicates I'm going through the clear coat. Right? Now I am very careful, slow and conservative, using 1200 (never less), 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit wet. I even use part-used paper to slow down the cut. How to get rid of the peel and not go through clear. I never flatten the base coat before clear. Maybe i should? but what grit, and then how to do avoid scratch marks being visible. Really appreciate your opinion on this

I have a question for The Gunman or anyone else who is a painter. My brother wants me to paint his aluminum boat and wants to apply a gel coat as his clear. Can I use my spray guns from work to spray the gel coating or should I just buy a different gun and just specifically use the gun for gels. I'm worried that when I bring my gun back to work and use it with my Deltron clears it would cause something bad to happen. Of coarse I would clean the hell out of my gun. What is your thoughts

I'm confused. Gunny says he mixed up the colour at work and it's left over from when he was painting the bonnet (presumably quite a while ago). But wouldn't the mixed paint have hardener added in and wouldn't it have gone hard? He didn't add any hardener to it at home when he put it in the mini gun so what's up with that?
@TheGunmanChannel6 жыл бұрын
The basecoat colour doesn't get hardener. The clear coat gets hardener
@PiezPiedPy6 жыл бұрын
You don't use hardener's with base coat
@theaardvark96196 жыл бұрын
I think you will find that he was using solvent base coat, this dries matt and has to have a clear coat on top to provide protection and gloss. The solvent base coat is merely thinned down with reducer/thinners to allow it to flow correctly out of the gun when spraying (normall 2 to 1), it does not set or cure like clear coat but merely starts to dry out over time as the solvent evaporates off, if it had lost some solvent during storage he may have put a drop more reducer in it in order to obtain the correct viscosity again. I think you are mixing up base coat with 2k direct gloss which does have hardener and 2k reducer added to it and it does go off /set but dries to a gloss finish and does not need a clear coat on top.
@davesage91906 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I enjoy the videos even though I don't paint (on a regular basis). I helped a friend paint a car a couple of years ago and he used (I think) acrylic enamel (solid blue colour). I thought it was two parts paint - and one (I thought) hardener / accelerator. Perhaps it was thinners ??? No clear coat.
@davesage91906 жыл бұрын
Aardvark. I guess you were typing while I was. I believe you are correct. It was direct gloss paint we were using. I guess you call that 2-pack or single stage?? In any case no clear was required. I'm glad I wasn't too confused. Thanks for the clarification.

Love it, Excellent work as always. One quick question if I may, if this was the only equipment you had, do you think you could do an entire vehicle in 1 go with this size compressor or would it need to be broken down in to parts?
@TheGunmanChannel5 жыл бұрын
That compressor would really struggle doing more than one panel. I'd get a bigger compressor.
@TheCampervanBuilder5 жыл бұрын
The Gunman thanks the the reply, one more quick one if that’s ok, if this was the only compressor available and you were adamant you wanted to do your own paint job but had no funds to upgrade equipment, what would be the best way to do it, would doing a few panels per day while masking up the rest of the car and moving around it over a few days do the job? Is there any issue spraying while the compressor is filling because if it’s ok to keep spraying while the compressor is filling, the the whole car could be done in one go? Thanks for the help so far man, your channel is super informative
