For a “Rough Draft” that song was really good! Like I know it’s all just playing around and all that, but I see some serious possibilities for songs I am really inspired to make now! If I make it big one day (And that’s a long shot if ever, but I’m gonna strive for it!), but if I do in fact one day make it somehow, best believe I’m gonna give you a shout out! This video alone has inspired me so much to just give it a try and it never hurts to try! Haha But thank you so much for making this video and helping me understand what all you can actually do with GarageBand on our iPhones or iPads!

Great tutorial.. thanks It would be cool to have a section on playing the alchemy synth to create your own loops to make a song that's totally original. It's ok to use the preset loops for fun but i think recording live instruments into a loop or using the built in software instruments to really make an original song is even more fun and satisfying.

2022 here. U can do that now (:

One of the most important things in writing actual songs is not covered here; that is: chord changes! That's because there aren't any changes in this music, except the few that are within the pre-recorded loops. Has anyone not noticed that? all of these songs have but one chord! You can change the tonality of the loops, but he has not told you how. You go into Settings, and there you'll find a place where you can raise or lower the tonality (key) of each loop by half-steps up or down. Of course you will want to do this if your songs have more than one chord! Maybe in future videos this very functionality (having more than one chord in your songs!) might be reviewed.
@ahmedabdulmajid56067 жыл бұрын
LizM how do you do it
@neandergal7 жыл бұрын
First put your loop into a track. Then double-tap on the loop to get the menu. hit "Settings." Then look at the little Settings menu and about halfway down you'll see the word Transposition (in light gray). Under it it says Semitones and to the right of that is a - sign and a + sign. If you want to lower the pitch, tap on the minus sign until it's the pitch you want; if you want to raise the pitch tap on the plus sign. So let's say your loop is in the key of C and you want to change the tonality of the loop to a G -- so -- you tap the minus or the plus to go either 5 semitones down or 7 semitones up. Try it both ways to see which you prefer (they have different sounds, just as when you transpose a whole song it may sound weird (too high or too low)). Oh - when you're done transposing, press "DONE" on the upper right of the little menu to get out of Settings. I hope this opens up a whole world of chord changes for you!

This was a great video. Very useful tips and well thought out production. Nicely done. As for the whiners about people using GarageBand / live loops. Music is very subjective so if you can be creative and make something others dig you’re set. Whether you use soup spoons - a flipped over 5 gal bucket or GarageBand you’re creating something. All the trash talkers aren’t posting links to all their awesome ORIGINAL content. I wonder why. Put up or shut up.

GREAT tutorial! One minor recommendation: Why not call "non looping loops" "one-shots" instead. That's the nomenclature most sample playback systems use. I believe it's also easier to say, and much easier to understand. Cheers!
