I checked Nike's website, and I think the reason they sell them in pairs, is that the 'grind' they use for the external part, changes from batch to batch (or season to season). So I think this prevents people from ending up with 2 totally different coloured plates.

At 7:47, the reason for the disc at the center is to prevent the ring from punching through the rubber as easily. This is a common failure mode in concrete construction where you have a slab supported by a column. You need to locally strengthen the slab at the column to distribute the load and prevent punching shear. Same thing is happening here.
@ALCV11 Жыл бұрын
This question that comes up all the time whenever talking about these plates: "Any sign of the center ring coming out?" So I can see why there is a center core. It's a little disappointing for me since I love the idea of them being recycled, but I still love mine and they are a real attention grabber.

What is the thickness of the 45lb plate? These could potentially be redeeming qualities of these things. In your older videos you always touched on these points when reviewing bumpers.

Just a heads up for those looking at comparing prices. You can get around the massive shipping costs by purchasing from Dicks sporting goods. Straight from Nike, I was looking at $150 additional shipping. When ordered on Dicks a pair of 45/15/10 plates came out to $388. Pretty much on par (certainly cheaper than rogue’s equivalent) with the rest of the industry. These definitely look a hell of a lot better on the rack than anything else on the market.

I’d call this plate more “Greenwashing” if the interior part of the plate shown, which far outweighs the recycled external portion, is not made from recycled materials. The website is vague about the sourcing of the internal materials. Still love my Hi Temps of which all the rubber is from recycled tires! Buy once, cry once with Hi Temps.
@DrewLSsix Жыл бұрын
If the idea is recycling what they have it makes sense, the material Nike has on hands for shoes isn't going to work great for the interior of a bumper. They could source recycled material from elsewhere but there's availability and quality concerns there.
@thomasbrown7328 Жыл бұрын
@@DrewLSsix it just seems a bit deceptive on Nike’s part. They’re putting too much emphasis on the reuse of materials when it looks like from Coop’s cutout in the video at most 25% is from recycled materials. Some can pick these up in person depending on their location. Dick's sporting goods sell them and you can save on shipping costs if picked up locally. If younwanna test the yellowing over time, you've now got a pizza weight-plate that can yellow without issues. Test one part of it left outside as is, and you can use a UV Blocking clear coat sprayed on the other and see what difference it makes compared to your control group (the 2 other bumpers you have.) Is a clear coat spray the most ideal thing? No, but if someone is already spending $60-$200 more on these than the competition, just because they look cool, then they may be interested in whatever it takes to keep them from yellowing.
@timl6450 Жыл бұрын
Overpriced. If you want a comparable plate, go with the Rogue and save $. If you want to pay more for quality, for just $40 more you can get the Fringe color 45s with a higher durometer rating, and hubs with anchors (which helps stabilize the most common point of failure). The Nikes appear to have the standard hub that you’ll find in any crumb bumper. I just don’t see the argument for these (other than paying to get the swoosh).

It is pretty obvious that they weren't going to be fully shoe rubber, because running shoe rubber/foam has two main criteria: springiness and *low weight* If you made these from Nike Vaporfly's you'd probably get a two foot wide 45 plate. Not surprising they have good control on the weight either. When it comes to running shoes, people will complain if a size 9 is five grams off the listed weight.
