Very helpful video Chris I like the fact that you include the bad along with the good, some painters don't show the bad where they get runs or reactions in their finishes but you show it how it is plus you also explain how to fix or work around them. I mostly use sealer before basecoat but even then my first coat of base is always a light dust coat as this reduces the chance of having problems🙏👍John UK

Alright this is something that's bugging me and its more of a technical question. When blending in the paint, is it acceptable for it to be on top of the sanded clear coat? Are there any prep steps beyond sanding that should be done to make sure the blended paint adheres to the under layer of clear coat?
@GarageNoise3 ай бұрын
Totally acceptable, that's all that needs to be done as long as the clear is in good shape.

Hey Chris, you helped me a lot on some of my questions so I want to help you reduce spillage when pouring your reducer out of the bottle. I’m not sure if you know this, because you could have been in a rush when shooting a video, but next time you pour that reducer, try pouring it from the other direction. In other words, spin the container around 180 degrees before you grab it and start tilting it to pour. I do this method for engine oils too and it never makes a mess. If you pour it the way most people think is the correct way, the fluid coming out always catches the corner rim of the container, causing the fluid to run down the side of the container.

Id like to see it all buffed out. It looks like you’re looking right at where it’s hitting I know it takes a little bit of time to learn the timing so you don’t get sags or runs. I’m going to have to watch some of your other videos where you do larger pieces or the whole car. I don’t paint cars I’ve only probably painted about five in my life but I have always wanted to paint houses and cabinets doors whatever I love to spray. it’s funny the different types of spraying houses use an airless most of the time Cabinets I use the HVLP or pot sprayer which is similar to what you’re doing. I’d love to get into automotive painting I think it’s something I would enjoy I’ve only done auto body when I was younger . You do a great job everything looks really good I enjoy your videos

Looking for a first gun for home use. I have a 60gal 5hp 12.5cfm. I have watched your vids on the Astro tool EVOT13 and the Aero pro R500/A610. I have never painted a vehicle before and am replacing a door and bumper cover. I am learning as much as I can so the only mistakes I hope to make is just being a new painter vs equipment issues. Thanks for all the instruction and help!

How do you get the metallic to show on the rest of the fender that you didn't shoot?
@serviceproper Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video it was very helpful. I'm trying to fix a small dent on my harley rear fender. So once I fix the dent and prime it, I'll sand the whole entire rear fender with 600 including the spot so that when I paint and clearcoat everything will be filled in like in the video?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
You got it! You may need to block the primer over the repair with 320 to make sure its straight. Then finish sand with 600

Also, doesn’t isopropyl alcohol contain some water, which then can penetrate into the urethane primer? I use denatured alcohol (I don’t know if this is better).
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
Denatured alcohol includes additives sometimes (castor oil) to give it taste for saftey reasons. Isopropyl alcohol is pure alcohol no water.

Great video......what does "flash off" mean? Does it mean the paint heats up due to chemical reaction and then he paint cools off?
@eareeyesee3290 Жыл бұрын
Good videos, good knowledge, good edits. Can you explain why some basecoats get blended into a wet bed or get the diluted color blender technique but this time you used a backed-off dry dusting blend. I dont do a lot of painting but rather enjoy it when I do so just like taking in knowledge. Thank you!
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
It's really all about avoiding something called mottling. Which is an inconsistency in the metallics of a finish. It makes metallics look blotchy. This happens most often in light metallics like golds, silvers. This is when I will definitely use a color blender or (wet bed). Especially if it a hot day as this makes those silvers dry quicker, which also make the chance of mottling greater. Most dark colors I don't need a color blender. That doesn't mean there's no chance of mottling but for me it alot less likely. Good question, I've been getting ask this alot so I may answer your question in a video. Appreciate the support!

Great videos!!. How would you blend paint and clear up to a body style line? I guess the question is: how do you end base and clear at the body style line and then wet sand? Wouldn't there be a suttle line as the paint and clear end at the same point?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
Yes ,there would be a subtle line. I'll make some video's explaining how to do a repair like this effectively. It's never the right way to do it but for a diyer it a useful skill.

I could buy a small compressor and a gun like you suggest or the Eastwood five stage turbine. I don’t paint often but I have pride. What do you recommend? Time to leave rattle cans for smaller projects.
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
If your concerned about overspray, air consumption, and want to save in materials this is a great paint gun. As far as an air compressor I always suggest buying the most cfm's possible within your budget. Size doesn't matter, how much air it produces (cubic feet per minute) is what's important. Hope this helps appreciate the support!

I have a question that's been puzzling me for a long time. After you spray your base, you tack down the scuffed original clear coat area which now has loose, dry overspray on it. Then you're clearcoating over some dry base atop old clear, yes? is that OK??? Thank you!!
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
Yes, because it's just the color the clear will smooth everything out and give it the gloss

Absolutely, it may be just a bit slower if you like to spray fast. It doesn't bother me though. I like the lower overspray and material savings.
