Garak - One of the greatest and most fascinating characters ever created.

Between bashir’s hyper intelligence and garak’s plethora of experience being a master manipulator, these two may be the most dangerous duo on the station.

@@Nisselak There are many dangerous pairs to be found on DS9. Benjamin and Miles, Jake and Nog, Quark and Rom.

@@samsonguy10k Jake and Nog are dangerous for kids. Dont take them lightly, but they arent in the same league as sisko and miles, or rom and... well anyone really, rom is surprisingly smart and clever. From what I gather, he just doesnt have the drive to succeed in the ferengi way so he gets treated as a tagalong by his brother for most of the series.

Seriously, the depth of Garak is incredible. The writers and actor really did an amazing job. The first time I watched DS9, I thought it was on Voyageur level and I didn't like garak until the later seasons. After a 2nd watch thru, Garak is truly one of the best characters in the series, and knowing more about his personality, you realize that in our own lives, we have prejudices on people that may not be true, until we understand the a more complete picture of someone. Garak - the best character on Star Trek, imo. I love Picard, Sisko, Data, Worf, Q, etc, but Garak is my favorite character.

I love how genuinely pleased he is that the doctor deep down doesnt trust him. This is a man who lives in deceit and trickery and lies. And thats how he likes it. If someone he considers a friend were to be so foolish as to TRUST him, it just means he is too stupid to be his friend. Cardassians have such an interesting culture.

remember that cardassians basically treat debate as a form of courtship, so outwardly they appear standoffish and confrontational, when in fact that's just them evaluating who they want to interact with

@@DRKLCNS1, and you can see the borderline fear in Bashir as he hears this about this lack of trust and is afraid that it will cost him this friendship. He tries to downplay it and then feels absurdly pleased that Garak is thrilled by the development.

A lot of people seem to miss the pretty obvious subtext here. Garak is telling Bashir that he's finally losing part of the naivete he'd been carrying, which is true. It's pointing out character development in a clever and engaging way, though fujoshis insist they just want to take it up the ass.
