I had the pleasure of meeting Aaron Eisenberg at a tiny little Con in my town. I've never met a more friendly, welcoming actor towards a fan. He made ME feel important. We spoke for 20-30 unforgettable minutes. I will never forget him.

Yes, absolutely. I met Aron at DST in the UK, he was the highlight of my trip. He was a great listener, and had a fun sense of humor. I have social anxiety but he made me feel welcomed and at ease. When the photo op was over, he asked me to stay when the staff were rushing me to leave and he picked up where we left off with our conversation the previous day. Such a kindhearted man and such a big loss to the world. You are missed, Aron.

Really, EVERY other sci-fi mythology does the SAME thing. The iconography of Trek is actually in the fact that it explores.......the human condition itself! It just uses all the planets and aliens as a backdrop for that exploration. So using that criteria, Deep Space Nine is not an offense to Roddenberry's vision, just because they don't go exploring a different planet every week. There's a scene from 'It's Only a Paper Moon' where Nog is explaining to Vic Fontaine why he joined up and how he couldn't believe that he would lose a leg - it's one of my favourite pieces of acting of all time. RIP Aron and Rene.

Yup. It's a powerful scene showing an officer at his most vulnerable. Brilliant acting from Aron throughout the whole of Nog's character development arc. Even as a cheeky-cum-naughty kid you see the character and mindset Aron has built for Nog and then the writers allowed the character to grow and become a main part of DS9 over coming seasons which was brilliant because you could see the range of Aron's abilities in growing the character from cheeky scamp teenager to determined young adult to cadet to officer and his performances grew with it. He is greatly missed as a character, as an actor, as a human being. 💔

That’s an incredible scene. I’ve heard that soldiers who have suffered PTSD have said that scene matches their own struggles. One of the great moments in Star Trek of having an alien express to a hologram the most human emotions.

I would have to agree. This was one of, if not my favorite episode of all the second generation Treks. The quality of acting here was off the charts. I think the only other episode that I rank close to this was the Voyager episode "Real Life" where the Doctor made a holographic family. The end of that one brings me to tears even today, and I've seen it a half-dozen times.

I'm on Season 4 of DS9 and I have to be perfectly honest, I'm liking it more than The Next Generation. The characters on the show just feel more alive, more interesting. Don't get me wrong, I love TNG, but I felt like only a few characters on that show really shined, whereas on DS9, all the characters shined brightly. Alright, I got to get back to watching more.

Well the characters of TNG are "less alive", or perhaps "less human" kind of by design. TNG, especially in the earlier seasons under the guidance of Gene Roddenberry, presents an utopian future where not only our technology has progressed but so has humanity, who no longer possesses the flaws and vices of the past. DS9 stands in a raw contrast to that with humans drinking themselves silly all the time and and the holodeck acting as a brothel and all that. I mean the rethawed, frozen humans of the past from TNG's season 1 would fit just fine on the Deep Space 9. Don't get me wrong, I love DS9, its characters like Dukat and Garak in particular will stay with me forever. But I do think it traded off a little piece of what made trek "trek".

@@valentinolli8955 but like you said, TNG characters were very sanitized. TOS characters were not, however. TOS characters also drank themselves silly at times and got up to no good. If you ask me, Gene Roddenberry did some revisionism on his own product before firing off TNG because he was taking everything Trek too seriously by the time the 80s came around to the point where his own production people were having issues with his ultra-utopian vision for the 24th century - a vision that his own 23rd century product (TOS) did not espouse. If you ask me, DS9 hewed closer to the original Kirk-Spock-Scotty dynamic than did TNG.

@@jacquidicks2466 Discovery has a massive identity crisis. Season 1 got really, REALLY good and dark the last 5 episodes of season 1, all set in the Mirrorverse. But then in season 2 they left the Mirrorverse and tried to correct everything the old fans hated and please them, and keep the new fans happy. Season 2 was so confusing, and made no sense at all in parts. It is literally The Michael Burnham Show. She knows EVERYTHING, and saves everyone every episode to the point of feminism being a parody, the rest of the crew are just props in her world. Season 3 theyve sent the ship 900 years in the future to erase it from history under a gagging order for the people in the present, so no one learns about what Discovery did to destroy Star Trek canon. Its just plagued with bad writing, underdeveloped ideas, and lacks any heart. You should try it though, coz there are some great bits in the Mirrorverse. Have you seen Lower Decks!!!🤢🤢🤢 Its horrific.

Watching this, I first thought Armin was being distant, in a negative way. He wasn't laughing with the others, or smiling with them. However watching and listening to him, I think the loss of his friends hit him extremely hard, and he was doing all he could to keep it together. He summed it up well, with the Shakespeare quote. I've been a long time fan of Doctor Who and Star Wars and I loved the 2009 reboot of Star Trek. DS9 was a truly great science fiction series. Great cast. The series did something different and it was darker. It had memorable characters and some of the best episodes/storylines in the Star Trek franchise. Jadzia Dax, Odo and Kira Nerys in my opinion were the best characters in DS9. I like to believe Bonanza was a major influence behind the show as it was about Ben Sisko living on DS9 with his son Jake following the death of his wife Jennifer. Rene and Aron's demises is a huge loss to the Star Trek franchise. Odo was a great character and Nog had one of the best character arcs and character developments in the series. Nog started off as a mischievous young Ferengi who later changed and became a Starfleet officer and DS9 crew member. It's sad Rene and Aron are gone. May they rest in peace.

Strange one for me, as I love Star Wars, Trek and B5 was my favourite ever series until Breaking Bad came round; but I could never get into DS9 (nor Voyager for that matter). The dynamic between Quark and Odo on DS9 was just amazing. Those two actors could play off each other with such brilliance. They are both my favorite actors on DS9 and if I had to pick a third, I'd probably go with Garak. Andrew Robinson was an amazing actor and brought pure brilliance to Garak's role. In the Pale Moonlight really showed just how much depth Robinson could bring to Garak's role.

When Aron passed away, I was in hospital from renal failure; I had no idea until I got home; and it really hit home. He played one of my favourite characters (Nog rocks), and he passed away from something I was dealing with myself. I didn’t know he was adopted, I was a foster child. I hold DS9 even closer now;.. not just because I changed my name legally to B’Elanna Nerys, but because the actors in this series; show their true human vulnerability.

A friend of mine went to a Star Trek convention and met Aron. They talked for a time and became friends on Facebook. When my friend got married he posted photos up of his wedding day. Aron commented on them congratulating my friend and his wife and wishing them happiness. My friend still talks about it to this day. I think we all should be more like Aron. Spreading positivity, kindness and love. Aron and René were terrific people.

I'm in the middle of season 6. Such a powerful show. And avery Brooks and sisko just keep leveling up every season with amazing acting and powerful scenes. Just saw him and dukat stranded on that planet. Very disturbing scenes

It's an amazing show dealing with many facets of life. First off, it's a show that starts out as a blackman trying to raise his son as a single father. The writing between Jake and Ben is great throughout the series. There's moments when Jake needs fathering, but there's also times when Ben makes mistakes and his son is giving him help and advice. Parents are far from perfect and this show shows that dynamic very well in how they learn from each other and overall love each other. This is such a great role model, not only for black men, but for all men and people who go through difficult times. The series also touches on many themes, like the mixing of different races, also difficult (for some people,) homosexuality. The series is full of humor, fun, serious and amazing moments. It was an amazing cast. I love how diversified it was, way before it was in fashion.

I had the pleasure of being Aron's personal assistant at the London, Ontario, Canada Forest City Comic Con. As we were setting up his booth, he was on and off the phone, talking to his employees in California. He owned a video production company and the team was going out to shoot video of a wedding for a rather difficult woman. It took about an hour before he was assured that the team had everything in place and had it under control. He disconnected the call and continued to lay out his photos and quietly said "after that, I could use a hug". I replied, "you're in luck! I'm a man who likes to hug!" And we did, with the con crowd already coming into the vendor room. What a pair we must have been! Both of us bald and me almost twice his height! I only knew him for a few hours that day. I learned he was a shrewd business man, a loving husband and caring father, an absolute prince with his fans and a consummate story teller (which he demonstrated in his one hour talk panel). I also learned, as several of these people mentioned, that was was a truly sweet person. I stayed in touch with him through Facebook after the con and was saddened by his passing. We had talked quite a bit about his struggles with kidney transplants. But, all good things must come to end. I'm am happy that I had the chance to know him, even briefly. My world is that much brighter as a result.

ngl - that had me choked up. I was fortunate to meet both men, and to actually watch Rene on stage in a few plays and the loss to the stage and screen is incalculable. Aron I will remember from having one of those "waiting by the elevator moments" at a convention once, and he was speaking animatedly to Nana Visitor about his son. His hands were so expressive as he talked that I later told a friend I was surprised he didn't levitate like a hummingbird. So spirited and earnest and such a proud father. I know those who loved him and worked with him must miss him dearly.

Siege of AR15 is one of the best Nog episodes. I love watching the first season episodes where Sisko is upset that his son is hanging around this Ferengi kid who's becoming a bad influence on him. Years later, Sisko's last official act was to promote him to a Lieutenant.

I’m feeling my eyes well up listening to Armin Shimerman talk about them. I’m rewatching DS9 again through its entirety and the scene of Nog telling Sisko why he wants to join Starfleet and Odo admitting to Garak under torture he wants to go home to the Founders are two of the most poet pieces of acting not just in Science Fiction but in all genres.

I was a kid in the 90's I remember thinking this show was great, being a kid I think for a second I thought it was real. I clearly recognised a great show as a kid so I'm watching it now and I can say the acting is great. RIP to Aaron and Rene, their characters really made the show and stuck with you. All the best.
