Nice clear video! On your website it lists a Garda DS and a Garda A30W, both of which have two cup and cone bearings as well as two sealed units, but this video doesn't mention them? Are the cups and cones both replaceable or are the cones an integrated part of the hub?

Hi Jim. The cup and cone bearings are inside the freehub. It's usually easier and cheaper to just replace the freehub, but some people who are familiar with bicycle hub internals might wish to take this challenge on themselves. If you're not familiar with working on traditional style threaded freehubs and cup and cone bearings, we don't recommend opening it up. If you are, they are pretty similar internally to entry level Shimano threaded freehubs.

@@ProLiteNews as long as they’re replaceable without having to buy a whole new hub I’m happy, thanks for replying

@@jimbo19849 The freehub replacement is much less involved than the entire hub. You can find the item on our web store at store.pro-lite.net

What a brilliant video. Helped a lot but not sure if the title is correct ''Complete Service Guide'' My free hub body seized overnight from the slightest exposure to damp conditions. Thought that it had just packed in but after managing to get some lubricant inside of it it is now fully functioning again. On inspection it looks like the free hub body can be dismantled which i think i need to do to re grease the inside of it and that's only after 12 months usage. It has no play what so ever and sounds good. So Mr Pro-Lite could we see a video of servicing a free hub body. I love my Pro-Lite Wheels and have 3 sets. I highly recommend them but servicing is of the utmost importance and guidance would be most beneficial. Thanks Pro-Lite for making brilliant wheels.

Thanks for the kind comments Stephen. The "Complete" is meant to indicate that the basic maintenance for all of the main serviceable or replaceable parts are included in this video. You are quite correct though that there are some procedures that are not covered here. Those would be the procedures that we do not consider to be trivial or do not recommend for the general public on a "DIY" basis. It is in fact possible to disassemble and service the freehub body, but it requires more skill and more tools than the average person will have at home. For replacing the freebody, one could argue that a 12mm Allen key is also kind of unusual, but it's also a tool that can easily be found at just about any hardware store. As a result, we sell the Garda freehub body as a single sealed unit which can be replaced as seen in the video and the cost of that unit is very reasonable - likely less than the labor cost for disassembling the freebody manually. We hope that this is the best mix of practicality and cost effectiveness for running the wheel long term. If you'd like to delve into the deeper techniques of freebody disassembly, an old Garda freebody is not a bad choice to learn with. There are videos of people doing the full breakdown of a threaded freebody. That is outside the scope of this series of simple DIY procedures. If you have deeper questions, please feel free to message us directly through our website. We don't actually check messages on YT very often, but we do make real effort to get back to people quickly through our contact form. Thank you for your question.

Can I use tubeless ready tire with this wheel?

Any idea how to get the end caps off that have either seized onto my axle or are stuck on via the screw lock that was in the grub screws. Managed to get the grub screws out but the axle will not move a micron. I need to change the bearings as after 4 months of riding the front wheel has a bad wobble. If rather not have to replace the wheelset.
@ProLiteNews3 жыл бұрын
This isn't uncommon for friction fit end caps. If you have removed the grub screws, then all you need now is a hammer and some elbow grease. Tap out the axle from one side. The bearing will come out as well, sort of 2 birds with one stone. You don't need to remove the end caps as a separate process. Once the axle is out and free, you can use a vice or similar support to tap the bearings and end caps free. From there, a *gentle* bit of polishing of the affected areas is usually good with a bit of emery paper and adding a bit of waterproof or other non-lithium grease also goes a long way to preventing seizing.

@ProLiteNews3 жыл бұрын
store.pro-lite.net has freebodies for FH06S (Original Garda) and FH13S (for the Garda 2 hub used on Wide Rim wheelsets like the A30W). I've just seen your email inquiry as well and I've replied to you there in more detail.
