Garden update August 2024 San Antonio Gardening

San Antonio gardener here. Figs are going crazy. Wait until they are slightly soft before you pick them. I quarter mine and put them in the dehydrator. Add nothing to them and they are a sweet snack during the day time. Great job on your garden!

Nice video. My mom used to substitute fig in any recipes that called for dates -- date bars, filled oatmeal cookies, etc. Delicious.

I understand what you mean about the tomatoes slowing down. I had one in a pot and when it got to the point where it looked sad, I just moved the pot into the partial shade and it seems to be doing much better.

So hot, I use shade cloth in the the garden your garden looks great love the figs Yum!

I've seen cooks make refrigerature jam from figs. Some add a strawberry flavoring. Both are good. Pick your figs when they just start to ripen or the squirrels will get them! Let the figs ripen on the counter. I planted my fall tomatoes last weekend after putting up shade shade cloth.😊❤

FISCHER texas here. Drip irrigation , heavy mulch, and shade cloth are a must around here.
