When we were first married, my husband and I were very poor. We baked some Christmas cookies in different shapes. We then used red ribbon to hang them on the tree along with the popcorn garland and red ribbons bows. Of course the tree was missing a few of its ornaments by the end of the season! That was over 30 years ago. Sure wish we had your KZbin videos back then for some great ideas!

What a perfect, little tree! I love it as well as your sun porch. The tree adds to the ambiance. I would sit out there whenever I could. Mine is screened in and in Upstate, New York, winters are quite harsh so I can’t leave plants on it. Benjamin munching on the popcorn strings . . . .just too adorable! Merry Christmas to you, Aaron, Benjamin, Chris, Mom and Dad, Russell, Cheddar and the chickens! And THANK YOU for giving this 60-year-old the push to relight my love of gardening.
@shirleysenkler7815 жыл бұрын
Love how this tree turned out. It was a lot of work to drill through the various nuts but so worth it. I do have to agree with Benjamin though, popcorn is for eating. Still, I'm glad to see the popcorn garland, you needed the white for contrast. On the birch rounds, forget the woodburning kit, your drawings are perfect and charcoal is also natural. This is another video I'll be going back to over and over.

Love you using the mandolin. 1971 Our first Christmas with our newborn son. On an Indiana farm, (hundreds of acres in hills). We went out to the woods and cut down a fluffy cedar tree. We cut out copper tin stars and put some small wooden carved Swedish figures (I still have), some halved walnut shells with tiny bits of colored dried flowers stuck in with green clay and that was that.

When I was young and married with small children we didn't have much money and we decorated our trees with popcorn, nuts, and I would out old Christmas cards and add sparkles and rick rack or whatever I had available. I loved those trees. Although the trees I've seen on KZbin are beautiful I feel they lost the essence of the Christmas tree in favor of glamour and over abundance. Next year we plan on cutting down a tree from our back lot decorating it with all natural materials we either make or gather. Thanks for the inspiration.

This is an absolutely charming tree Laura, I love it so much! I also went natural with my tree this year, I added little dried painted gourds and pine cones to mine - but I got so many ideas from this! I think it's so important for everyone to start using less plastic and mass-produced products generally, but especially at Christmas, as our environment is suffering so much. But this is the perfect example that home-made and natural can be gorgeous too!

As far as the popcorn garland, we kept as kids - mom put it in ziplock bags (or something similar) and placed on top of storage before closing the box. Most of the time it kept, there’s a few times we just made new. We also used cranberries for garland. That might be your touch of red for next year.
