A big home run for this year's plantings at the college, Laura! Absolutely gorgeous! I also have to complement the caretaker of the gardens for a job well done! It takes a lot of care to get this kind of success and awesomeness from this kind of show of art in the gardens! Bravo! Well done to all who maintain these spaces and a big ovation to the creator! My hat goes off to you Laura! Well done!

I was just wondering about the college last week. It really looks nice. Love that main entrance bed. It’s spectacular. Yes. Less sweet potato vines next year. They’re beautiful, but really crowd out the flowering plants. Color combinations are spot on this year. Great job, Laura. 😊🦋💖🕊

I think everything looks beautiful. The sweet potato vine looks so fresh and green, just perfect. I also planted the snow drift and it did not do well for me. It gets leggy and scraggly and not a soft texture like the other supertunias. I had to pull it out.

Please don't trash me, as I love this channel, but everyone is different, with a different opinion. I do believe the amount of sweet potato vine was a bit much(in some)of the beds. They are gorgeous, but in some of the beds I thought the vine was overwhelming all the color. It was like, sweet potato vine everywhere was the topic of the bed?

Greetings, Laura, from Windermere Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 I'm amazed at how wonderful the college still looks. I love the Carolina vines, the staff there is diligent. Too bad on the bud worms 😡 Good job on dividing the canna bulbs. In Florida they are used in a lot of landscaping 👍 The students who are just coming in for the first time are feeling so welcome by all of those beautiful flowers 👩‍🌾👍 Happy Gardening Everyone 👩‍🌾👍

I am also not impressed by the 'Unplugged Pink’ Salvia. It is truly inferior to the Rockin' Fuchsia Salvia by growth, shape, look and performance. The Rockin' Fuchsia and Playing the Blues Salvias are perennials in my Zone 9 garden for the past three years. With regards to wind snapping the stems, this year one of my Rockin' Fuchsia Salvias missed a few days of watering, and looked dead. So, I pruned it all the way to the base, and it grew back full and strong again. So these Salvias can truly be pruned back severely and will still regrow beautifully. They are forgiving.

Beyond Midnight (Sweet Potato Vine) is a Amazing plant on it's own! @ 29:50 > WoW. It doesn't 'need' anything else with it. A pot with just that in it > that's how I would plant it, in My yard. (Maybe a WHITE Canna in the middle ) (large pot / hanging basket / on a balcony) > Most of those pots/planters are too small, they don't need 4/5/6 Different plants, it's too much they all complete with each other too much and only the most aggressive plants win. Most of the other Flowering plants don't stand a chance with any of the sweet potato Vines....within 4 /5 feet of them. Less is more, in my yard.

Beautiful job Garden Answer crew and Rosa. In my humble opinion more simplistic pots are more relaxing to the eye and the plants can really shine and not completely so much. Also, the sweet potato vine seems much more understated in the pots that are in shade. Less light keeps it in check with out the need to trim. Can’t wait to see next years beds.

Everything looks beautiful, as does everything you create! As gardeners we always see what we will do differently next time and I respectfully agree, less sweet potato vine. While beautiful, they have become the stars and not the backup singers!! (What about a lemon coral sedum (or two) in place of those sweet potato vines, at least at the front edges of the beds. Beautiful color but scale is better, so as not to overpower/dominate the flowering plants like the sweet potato vines do.) I always love to see what you pair together, you are an inspiration to this 35+ year gardener!

The college containers would be the perfect opportunity to implement Aaron's one plant per pot approach. Either one plant in smaller containers, or one variety in bigger ones. I think it lends itself to commercial settings where two many varieties can look a bit messy

So glad we got to see the roses. I was wondering how they were growing. I have one rose bush and all our rain and humidity this summer really did a number on it. Great job Laura! Even though I’m not a fan of sweet Caroline potato vines, it does look good! But you are correct, the supertunia jazzberry was a dud… at least it was for me. All so very beautiful! Can you tell us more about the watering schedule for these campus beds? As most of these plants can be quite thirsty, does drip go on more than once a day? I’ve absolutely loved checking in on these throughout the season this year. Thank you for doing the updates! A question for you: our At Last roses were completely ravaged by a Japanese Beetle infestation in late July. I’ve never had them before so I had a small crash course, but we were planning on planting more roses and I’m a little unsatisfied with the solutions I found when I was scrambling to save my plant. Have you ever dealt with these? Do you have any recommendations?
@julianneweaver7234
@julianneweaver7234 2 жыл бұрын
It isn't an organic solution, but using the spray Sevin is about the only way we keep our Japanese beetle issues at bay. Otherwise, the beetles destroy all our roses. I have tried hand-picking, and other natural beetle repellents, but they always seem to come right back. Sevin chases them away for several days - even sometimes upwards of two weeks, if it doesn't rain.
@prophetessoftroy
@prophetessoftroy 2 жыл бұрын
@@julianneweaver7234 thank you for this!! I started with Neem Oil and have been progressively working my way up from there, but I hate dusting the roses and covering them all up, even though that’s been the most effective of the organic treatments I’ve tried. I can’t handle handpicking more than a few, so I think I’m going to have to go the hardcore route. I will have to try Sevin!
@julianneweaver7234

Yes! Neem oil did not seem to even phase our beetles one bit. Our beetles appear, without fail, by July 4 every year and they are ruthless. Good luck on your efforts next year!

I feel for you as we struggle with Japanese beetles in our sandy Minnesota soil. We have had good results keeping them at bay with 3-4 Spectracide Bag-A-Bug traps, Sevin spray for stragglers, and Scott's GrubEx on the lawn in Spring and Fall. Unfortunately, organics just didn't seem to work for us. I especially believe the biannual application of GrubEx to the lawn has really brought the amount of beetles down for us.

I am loving the combination of the plants in the college welcome bed. I had great success with my supertunia vista jazzberry in my part shade containers with a Foxtail fern.

I’m glad your jazzberry worked for you. After reading the comments, it seems several people have been disappointed with it.

Wow, what a way to end the tour! That gymnasium bed is absolutely stunning with the roses, sweet potato vine! Just beautiful! You, Aaron and the college caretakers have made the college landscaping an attraction!

I too was disappointed with my Jazzberry. It had maybe a 6" spread in both the garden and containers. I so hoped it would act like the Bubblegum.

So beautiful!!! Laura, you guys did a fabulous job. I love the sweet potato vine. I would love to know what kind of fertilizing schedule and fertilizer gets applied throughout the season. My garden just doesn’t thrives like yours do! Help!

I’ve found that Proven Winners water soluble granular works the best in very small increments... some use it weekly or even every other day it just depends on your plants need to feed...

Good morning.. I loved the Midnight sweet potato vine. The dark leaves with the light green looks like blossoms. Loved all of the groupings. I want to use the Sure- Fire Rose next year. Thank you for sharing.
