I think y’all underestimate just HOW MUCH the gardening industry has changed and grown because of you! I have easily spent 10-15x more per year than before I discovered your channel. I mostly lean towards native to my area (huge variety here in NC), but even so, the amount of Espoma products, augers, Colorblends, Felcos, I’ve purchased is incredible. These companies should always keep partnerships with you because I guarantee their profits have gone WAY up because of you. In fact, thousands of miles away from where you garden, I regularly geek out with one of the garden nursery employees about your content! I’m always improving my garden because of your regular inspiration!

I agree. I am in Georgia an have more than tripled what I use to spend on gardening. Mostly I look for what I see on Garden Answer. My preferred plants are now PW. I use Espoma, I search for David Austin roses. An it just goes on. I to start up conversations with others at garden centers, yes Georgia knows who Laura is. She inspires so many across the world actually to grow plants. ❤

I purchase Espoma, Proven Winners, Felco, and on and on because of you. I am a gardener because of your videos - something I swore I hated to do previously. And I know I am one of many. Plus I have told others about your channel and now we talk gardening and go to garden centers because of you. The world is a more beautiful place because of you and the community you have created. I know we are all eternally grateful ❤🌸🌲

I’ve been watching your channel from the get go and totally flipped to all things Aaron and Laura and I can see my local nurseries and big box stores are supplying more of the products you both use. I always recommend your channel when conversing gardens with anyone. Love you and your families 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️❤️🍸🍸🍸

Laura: After watching the videos, I read some of the comments to see what people are saying about the topics. YES, you inspire gardeners much more than you can ever imagine. The way you talk about plants and EVERYTHING about gardening is so way above anything else on the internet. Just the way you plant those four inch and above pots is awesome. You even have Benjamin copying the way you do it! GOD has given you (and us,because you use it so well) an AMAZING GIFT. I'm 86 years old now so I can't get out there in the garden to do the hard things. But I can plant the seeds under the grow lights and heat mats and transplant them into bigger pots. Our daughter now lives with us and does the planting and other hard stuff. But if I were 50 years old again, I'd use all the knowledge I've learned in the past 10 years. Boy, would I be an awesome gardener. And I'd use Espoma and Proven Winners products. Enough of that. You and Aaron are such great parents, the way you are raising your children. We live in North Central Idaho, so we have most of our weather a day or so after you. Please keep doing your videos because you have no idea how much all of us depend on them. Thank you so very much.

Hello from Virginia! I think I’ve only commented once or twice before in the four years that I’ve watched you (and I watch you every day that you post!), but I think I have to jump in today. I am completely obsessed with gardening, and YOU have been a huge reason for it. I’m so thankful for you! I walk around my garden, and I see all of my “Laura”-inspired plants: dwarf blue spruces, Twombley’s Red Sentinel, Katsura Japanese Maple, 15 David Austin roses, Brunnera, Fama Blue Scabiosa, boxwoods (not a fan of the Sprinters), Campanula, apricot-colored flowers, and 100s more. I also now grow about 500 plants from seed every year after watching you. I have actually gardened beyond my yard and into the neighborhood common areas by quite a bit (shh, don’t tell!). I’ve installed gardens for my friends, family, and neighbors after watching you. I’ve also started driving across states just to tour botanical gardens and gather new ideas on weekends. And I’m just an office worker stuck indoors most of the time! Please don’t ever stop your videos! Your passion is contagious.

Ah my fav. Me time ! Sunday recap! Laura- i trim Artichokes top and bottom, pull thin bottom leaves off and steam them until the center stem end is easily pierced. Dip leaves in melted butter. Worse part is cleaning the heart but worth it! My late dad would be tooting along on the grocery ECV, and yell” lets get some hand grenades! ( Ww2 vet) . Gosh he loved them.

I ❤ fresh Artichokes! I've never gone to the trouble of trimming each leaf! I steam them for 45 mns (larger ones) until one of the bottom leaves pulls out easy. Here in France, I make an Olive oil vinaigrette that I pour over and then on the cleaned heart. I grew up using butter (as most Americans), but hubs' Italian Mom did vinaigrette. I tried it and prefer it now.

I've been watching you since you have been in the house. At first the channel was just entertainment and a relaxing thing to watch as I had coffee. Then I started remembering names of plants while I was out and about. I'd see a flower in a garden and know the name of it. I discovered caladiums, hellebores and coral bells. First were pots of flowers with thrillers, spillers and fillers. People complimented me on the look of my planters. Then I got a garden developed with veggies, herbs and flowers. Family now come to me asking my advice about what to plant where and to help them with their drip irrigation. :) You have taught me (quite literally) everything I know about plants. I can't thank you enough for opening me up to this wonderful world of gardening.

ARTICHOKE PREP: Key is to Microwave the choke in a large enough bowl (I use my 4C measuring cup) with 1/2 c water cover with a paper towel and microwave for 5-10 minutes, until the choke is soft. Let cool, and prep your favorite way. I like to cut in half, remove the center part, drizzle in olive oil and grill. Yum

My mom used to steam them and serve them whole with a small ramekin of melted butter. We scraped the "meat" off between our teeth and as you get closer to the center, they got more and more tender. At the end, you're left with the heart. The best part. The spines at the tips of the leaves were kind of pokey, but we learned how to peel the leaves off carefully. So fun to eat as a kid. Now, I'm to lazy for the cook time and usually just buy the frozen hearts and microwave them with Miokos vegan butter. So good!

Aaron is not alone, I agree that the artichokes don't look near classy enough to be in the Hartley beds. Also, since, I'm commenting, put lots more pots of plants in your pond. I have aquariums and growing plants above the water with their roots in the water has made a huge difference with keeping the algae at bay. The faster growing the plant, the more of the excess nutrients they use and will correct the problem more quickly.

Aaron: Re: Copper levels- With my pond I pull the probe out weekly and use a small wire brush to clean the algae off. Once the algae builds up the copper does not ionize well. The algae acts as a barrier. You have to be careful screwing the lid back on and ensure the hole is lined up exactly over the top of the probe. If you don’t, the plastic lid will get damaged and it will leak (I know this from experience). Also, I use the LaMotte test kit as I’ve found it more accurate than the Aquascape kit. And, finally, yes, more plants!!! If you have plants that take up the nutrients, the string algae will starve. I have also used PhosGuard when my string algae was as bad as yours. I hope you can get it under control before you install your Dream Stream! Really enjoy your videos!

I too am happy for the many blessings received, whether directly given to Garden Answer or to myself and others through them. That being said, the latter portion of your statement ... " We all want to be like you!!! " ... is not only excessive, but false. Turn away from all idolatry. Jesus Christ is the only one we should all strive to be more like. Because of this channel I was able to teach my widowed mother how to create and evolve her flower gardens which has been so healing for her. Her late husband asked her what she would do after he passes away, and she told him she would work on her garden. She was so overwhelmed by it the first few years and wanting to give up, but I was able to inspire her through your inspirations. This year, I gifted her with drip irrigation. Her garden is thriving now!

Zone 9a here...and I was able to winter over my supervista's. All of my bubblegum, jazzberry, purple midnight (?), & snowdrift came back and are doing great. They are in the front of flowerbeds with no protection from wind. In late fall, I pruned them back, added extra layer of mulch (chopped pine straw) and covered them only on freeze nights, which we only had 3 nights in a row that where under 32° with lowest temps at 19°. Since they are all in front of beds lined up, it was easy to lay my covers over them and secure ends with bricks. I also fertilized them weekly with PW water soluble during growing season. It worked and was great to see all of them come back and begin blooming in April! 🌸

Zone 8a Virginia here - my Supertunia Bubblegums are on their third (!) year in the ground and going strong because of our recent past mild winters!! What a testimonial for the toughness of a Proven Winner plant! Like < jenterro > front of the bed, fertilized weekly and covered on only the coldest nights. They are gorgeous and going for it way earlier (March!) because of their head start on the season.

Hi, I’m in zone 8, coastal South Carolina. I planted a Jazzberry and a Bubblegum together in a large pot last year. They bloomed beautifully all summer, and I was hating the idea of losing them at the end of the year. I put the pot in the protected corner of our porch when we got a few freezing nights in January. So I wrapped harvest cloth around the pot, watered it periodically, and they survived the winter! So I pulled it out in March, trimmed the branches back, and fertilized the plants. They are blooming beautifully once again. Another testimonial to the quality of PW plants ! ❤🪴

It’s true, you inspire folks far and wide!! I was at a local growers greenhouse (Nampa, Idaho) on opening day and ran into a fellow wearing a Garden Answer sweatshirt. I wanted to talk GA with him, but also needed to rush the greenhouse to get the supertunias and superbenas I’d been dreaming about all winter because of you!! I chose the flowers, but I’m sure I would have had a wonderful conversation with him 😊 Also, my own garden has blossomed into something I would have never imagined! It’s been so fun to find a hobby that I enjoy so much and can talk about with just about anybody.

Our local "garden center" is actually the hardware store that carries annuals and shrubs for 2-1/2 months in the spring. I went in with my Laura List of Proven Winner plants, and they said "we don't carry those expensive PW annuals". I told them just order 4 flats of Supertunia Bubblegums and if you have any left in two weeks, I would personally buy them back. Guess how many they sold???? All those diehard GA lovers gobbled them up so fast!

I ALWAYS go plant shopping with a list, & yes your garden tours affect that list. Even though I'm in zone 4 (now described as zone 5, NOT!) I have limited room in my gardens & want cast-iron plants which will perform well & have long bloom times for color all season. Plants are very expensive these days & don't want to waste either time or money on varieties that are sub-par. I'm sure others feel the same!

So glad to hear the string algae problem is improving. And hopefully with the addition of pond plants, it'll completely improve. And about eating artichokes, I had some that were "stuffed" many, many years ago at a restaurant. You pull a leaf off and scrape a TINY amount of stuffing off the leaf with your teeth, and you know it was fine I guess. And then you get toward the center, where we had to scrape out all of the "choke" or you'll choke on what are the fibers that would have become the thistle flower of an artichoke, to finally get to the heart. And yeh, the heart is good, but when I finally saw some artichoke cooking videos, stuffed ones like I'd had, I thought, "You've got to be kidding? That is WAY too much work!" Just to eat a tiny bit of stuffing, because you can't eat the leaves? Or just to get to the artichoke heart? Just buy a jar of those, let someone else do the work. LOL! Thanks for the recap!

I would agree with Aaron that because of this channel, you make us viewers more confident! My mom cannot get over my sheer love and excitement for gardening, my knowledge of flower names, my comfort in trying new varieties and combinations. And of course I've purchased Felcos, the Fiscars kangaroo bin, and many other tools you've recommended. Garden Answer's reach and impact is incredible!

I think you expressing your least favorite garden chores is JUST FINE!! We all have things we don't like to do, some of us still do them because even though it sucks in the moment the pay off is big! And others just choose not to do what they don't enjoy. I think it makes this channel so refreshing, you guys are just real and true to yourselves all the time I love it! :)

12:13 Aaron is SO RIGHT! I have so much confidence now, it feels like 👍🏼 be been able to learn from a close family member instead of you tube. Laura is east to learn from because she engages with everyone while showing us what’s she’s doing. It’s a whole vibe, much better than telling us what to do for “classes” or “episodes.” For me anyway, I learn by hanging out with people doing something but struggle to learn when someone is actually trying to teach me something 😅

I have to comment. Because of your inspiration I garden I grow. Although you do it so well I felt intimidated. But then I watched "you can't eat the grass" And I realized I can garden. It's just two different personalities in I enjoy both. Sometimes I think about if I started watching now I probably couldn't relate. Because you have such big equipment endless supplies. I went from.. horrible garden space. To the envy of my neighborhood. I do have a small area to garden in but it's magnificent. And it brings me so much joy. Thank you so much... To you and Serena. I'm the Stacey that mentioned about Douglas's possible spring. And thank you for using bridgeton's music on your real last week. I just spent the last week watching all three seasons.

I felt confortable enough to garden, because of you. Not just garden, but prune things back, and prune trees and such. You guys live in a different enviroment than us, during the summer, but not in the winter. The only difference, is moisture, which we have a little bit more of, than you guys. But, anyways! I started with flowers, and this year, I am growing vegetables from seeds, and I would never have felt confident enough, if it weren't for you guys. So thank you for inspiring us, and making us want to dip our toes in, and feeling confident and patient enough to fail, and try again, aswell! ☀️

My mum has a garden centre in North Yorkshire and whenever gardeners world has been on, on a Friday night with Monty Don, she notices that people will then come in the following days asking for certain things that where featured in the programme. She tries to watch each week now so she has a heads up of what they will be asking for

Hi Laura, The long videos are awesome 👌 the viewers can always pause the video, but when you can watch the entire video, it is the best. In my opinion 😀 love your videos, so it's up to you and the time you have. I would actually watch 2 or 3 hours of videos... or even more hours. I love watching and learning... even though I'm a zone 9. I learn tips and see your beautiful designs. A huge thank you! 😂
