Your hydrangeas are just stunning! So many varieties, and so lush and full of blossoms. What a beautiful landscape all around your property. Love the dense plantings of hydrangeas around your house, (& all the other plant varieties near the house and other areas in your yard).

Absolutely gorgeous gardens. I had to laugh because I thought my hydrangea needed a good pruning, so chop chop and away I went. I got a beautiful green bush the following year with 3 blooms. Needless to say I was heartbroken. Well the following year I was rewarded with over 60 blooms! So I did sacrifice one year for a bountiful year after.

Most of my hydrangeas brown without turning pink down in 7b except my zinfindolls. They turn the most lovely deep pink! I've had the same arrangement of them on my dining room table for 2 years.

They look beautiful Heidi! I remember watching Rod trim those down last fall and I had to watch with one eye open! They all rebounded and turned out gorgeous! I love your hydrangea videos!! I'm going to rewatch your pruning video from last year as I get ready to shut down the beds this year and will hope for the best. Do you fertilize them each year? Can you please share what you do with respect to pruning your Tuff Stuff Ah-Ha? Thanks again for all the great videos. ❤️
@gardencrossings
@gardencrossings 11 ай бұрын
We fertilize once in the spring with a slow release fertilizer. I do not do much trimming on the Tuff Stuff as they bloom on new and old growth. If needed you can trim off the spent blooms. Or if it is just getting too big, trim it back as far as you want but understand you will be sacrificing the first round of blooms. ( Sometimes this needs to be done)
@jrgenmadsen8773

Stunning hydranges. Have to ask. Don't you have frost in the winter? If so, don't trim of the spent blooms until in the spring. They protect the plant from frost in the winter.
@gardencrossings

We do not have time in the spring for additional garden maintenance, we do as much clean up in the fall as possible.

Heidi, don’t feel bad about not trimming off the flowers……green or dusty rose is also a color that’s beautiful in the garden. I hardly ever trim them in the summer, I think they actually look worse when trimmed. Quick Fire is also a beautiful dried flower…..I just brought a bunch in and they’re so pretty! Thanks for sharing.
@gardencrossings

I should try drying the quick Fire. They are at a perfect stage right now. I just never think about them as they are more lacy than full.

I wish I really liked hydrangeas but all my neighbors have some type and I’m a little “over it” 😅 (gardeners please don’t come for me 😂) BUT is there another type of plant that isn’t a hydrangea or an alternative? I’ve been taking pride in finding and planting “new- and-unique-to-me” shrubs/trees/plants to plant in our yard 😊 (still a thumbs up 👍🏼 for support)

I also like the Pugster Butterfly Bushes, they smell amazing and bloom a long time. Proud Berry is something that is different and a very cool plant. Another that I think is a bit unusual is PEARL GLAM® Callicarpa or Calycanthus Aphrodite(if you have a big space)

The hydrangeas look amazing! My butterfly bushes aren’t growing flowers and I can’t figure out why. Also, I am seeing black stalks in some of the stems of the milkweeds. Any idea what is causing that? The flowers are growing fine in spite of the blackened stems.

Beautiful flowers!!! I have 2 Bob's and they're nothing like yours! Ive had them for about 3 seasons now and they are just so small still. Their blooms are rather small as well. I just planted a PW Let's Dance' hydrangea. It's about 2 feet tall and wide. Will it benefit it to be cut it back this fall or should I leave it alone this year and let it work on establishing roots? Thank you in advance, Laurie
@gardencrossings
@gardencrossings 11 ай бұрын
If your plant is full and 2 feet tall, i would leave it. If you trim it now you will sacrifice the first round of blooms. If you feel like you want it to get fuller and more branching, then go ahead and trim.

Beautiful! Im in a similar 5b/6a zone and climate but Massachusetts. I always recommend PW arborescens or panicle hydrangeas to my friends as they just shine in our climate and in either sun, part sun/shade or almost full shade (although fewer flowers in more shade and a smaller plant). Going to add firelight and invincible spirit to my collection next spring. I also love Pinky Winky. Highly recommend!
