Just dumped one of these. My husband is an electronics tech & can usually fix anything. A very thin sleeve was caught in the gasket & tore a big chunk out of it. He tried to install a new gasket, but it didn't work out & instead he ended up badly slicing his hand. The problem was with the spring & then seating the gasket. So, about 5 years out of a $650 machine. The part was over $100 & repairman started at $175, so we just bought an inexpensive ($450) top loader. At least I won't have to deal with mildew on a gasket anymore ( & probably no more LG's, my brother has replaced his lg fridge 3 times in a few years)

Now soak the other screens and filters in vinegar and you'll have the next replacement if changing the main filter often doesn't work. Have fun stay safe.

Appliance tech here: You're valve was definitely bad, and that's why it kept leaking. The valves were crusty and not sealing properly. No, they aren't cleanable. Now when you have soap in the tray, it shoots water into it and the water displaces the soap, pushing it up and out. It's actually not supposed to fully drain out! The cups are removable so you can easily dump them out afterwards. Very common misconception. If you really want it to drain out, you could drill a super tiny hole at the bottom. I've had customers requests that I do it after I've explained this. One more thing since I'm already ranting: The max line on the cup isn't the max amount of soap you should put in the machine, its actually the maximum amount you can put in the cup before the soap startes to overflow by itself. This is actually like 5-10x more soap than what is needed for even a large load. DO NOT OVER USE SOAP. It only causes problems. It can cause leaking, error codes, incomplete cycles and much more. Not to mention the over use of soap is the top reason you washer smells bad. When you use too much, it gets coated in-between the inner and outer tub where it gets moldy. You also need to keep the door open and wipe down the gasket after a cycle to keep it from getting moldy. Use AFFRESH once a month on the 'Clean washer' cycle or whatever hottest cycle you have is (Usually sanatize.) This will help boil out some of the old soap scum.

Excellent! You can spend time cleaning it, it better to learn from it, put additional inline filter on the washer line

Great video. I wouldn't worry about the lighting. I agree with most. I would have tried to clean first sinece the replacements aren't cheap and then kept them for backups if claeaning only showd little improvement. Well water in Ohio often has sediment also. That reminds me, I need to clean my filter. Add that to the honey-do list.

I have a well to and what happened to you happened to me, the sediments do get into the valves and keep them closed, I had to replace them, I also put screens in my hoses that connect to the faucets, I also cleaned my water filter every month to make sure the sediment wouldn't clog it so the water that flowed through my pipes wouldn't have the sediments clogging up my other faucets
@gardenfork
@gardenfork 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah Larrry, I have to be better at replacing the filter. I think it jammed up the shower valve as well. Thx!

It would be cool to at least take apart the valve to see how bad the build up. Might give a better idea as to weather or not cleaning them is really worth trying.

Put CLR in your soap drawer and run a clean machine cycle...no clothes. CLR or toilet bowl cleaner will remove the build up from the old valves that will probably work just fine afterwards.

I think your washer is the victim, the real problem is that filter which looks like it should have been changed long long ago. I have a whole house filter similar to yours but I've never let it get to the point where it is dark brown with mud clumped on it. How long does it take to like that? When was it last replaced? ...or checked?
