Shepherding Peppers Farm

Күн бұрын

Hey Ya'll, welcome to our little hobby farm. I'm thrilled you're here! I hope you'll find a comfy chair, a cup of something hot and wonderful, and spend sometime with us.
You'll typically find me in one of two places, the garden or the kitchen. Teaching and sharing this amazing world of growing your food, cooking from scratch, utilizing your harvest, and homesteading with our family, is a passion. We hope to encourage people to grow their own food, feel confident in homesteading, and live a life both messy and beautiful, because this life comes with a bit of dirt and a lot of love.
Every week you'll find us enjoying the wildness of raising a large family in the country. Welcome to the garden, to the kitchen, and to our small farm in South Carolina.
Faith is like a seed; plant it in your heart. God gives the harvest at the appointed time. (Mark 4:26-27,28-29)

It is Christmas everyday in the garden!!!! "Rich to homestead?!" when a dinner for two out can be $100+. Not to mention the benefits of the "whole" food that we eat directly from garden to table. Priceless. Thanks Natasha!

Working for a living is way more expensive than homesteading. Homesteading is about freedom from the need for money.

Alright. You've sold me on the blauhilde beans. I had one more arch that I wasn't sure what to grow on it. Watching your videos has convinced me on the beans. Into the ground they go!!

Yes we LOVE your harvest videos! -My onions didn’t really grow bulbs so I don’t know what I did wrong. First try. -I bought Black Beauty seeds from Wild Boar Farms today because I’ve heard such good things about it. -I also love Holy Basil to make tea with honey. -I harvested a bunch of Genovese for pizza yesterday! So good! -Got my first Sugar Rush Peach pepper fruiting. Can’t wait to try it! N Texas 8a

I'm really looking forward to hearing how you like the black beauty tomatoes and sugar rush peach peppers 🙌 sorry the onions didnt work! Did you plant them in the fall? I grow ours from seed and try to stick to short-day onions because they bulb much quicker and tend to do better in the south. For example Texas Sweet, Vidalias, and sweet reds 🥰

@@ShepherdingPeppersFarm yes I grew them from seed last fall. I planted Spanish and Texas short day varieties. I didn’t water much nor fertilize so maybe that’s why. I will definitely let you know about the BB tomato’s and SRP peppers!

If you plant only mochata type squash the vine borers have a much harder time getting into the vine, and if they manage to bore in the vines put down roots at every leaf node so they can't kill the whole vine. I learned a long time ago the maxima squash were the target of the vine borer moth and I'll never have them in my garden again. Dawn dish liquid mixed in water will kill some of the ants and chase the mound out and won't hurt your plants.

Great video, as always. Do you trim back your tomato plants? Like removing additional suckers?
@ShepherdingPeppersFarm
@ShepherdingPeppersFarm 4 ай бұрын
I like to keep the bottom 12 inches of the tomato plants clear from any leaves or suckers. And I will prune the suckers back occasionally, but only really if the plants are closer than 18-24 inches together. I always find that by leaving the suckers the harvest is much larger 💚

Do you not have to shade cloth your tomatoes in your Climate?
@ShepherdingPeppersFarm
@ShepherdingPeppersFarm 4 ай бұрын
I do not, I try to allow the plants to grow with as little help from me as possible and the trellis shaded one enough ever so slightly as the plants grow vertically. So they have never needed it ☺️
