@GardenLawncareGuy
@GardenLawncareGuy 3 жыл бұрын
If you are building up larger levels topsoil can be best to establish a level in the first place it can also be easier to grow seed in if you can't stay ontop of your Watering. If the garden is already mostly level the 70/30 is alot easier to spread and level fine spots out, more attention needed for Watering if you are overseeding too

@mrmors
@mrmors 3 жыл бұрын
A couple of questions: 1. Why have you not put a few mill of top soil over the top of the seeds as you've talked about doing in your other videos? By just giving it a rub over with the lawn lute after seeding you've essentially just knocked the new seeds off the existing grass so they have contact with the new sand/soil but they're uncovered? 2. Why not use the landzie spreader you reviewed? I used the method you've shown with a sandy top dressing and a lawn lute last year, and to be honest the results were not great at at, produced patchy coverage and a bumpy lawn a couple of months after, after it had settled. I've bought the landzie for this attempt this year hoping for a much more even coverage
@GardenLawncareGuy
@GardenLawncareGuy 3 жыл бұрын
1) main bulk of seed went down and was covered, some on top too and rolled in 2) for fine dry mix like this level is better, the material is already screened to 1mm. Landzie better for dressing with more bulky materials that do not spread like this, poorer quality mixes that are not screened and have stones in or just a light covering for seed

Thanks Paul, topsoil for building grades and levels. Topdressing for fine levelling work. Topsoil can be a great way to bring new weeds into your lawn if not selected right and can be harder to spread and maintain fine levels but more cost effective and good root zone for grass. Top dressing the sand won't decompose over time and is much easy to spread for fine levelling

Seems to me like a pre emergent was used in too high of a concentration, seed was too soon after, or a accidental misuse of tenacity (whether due to concentration or even ph of soil). I have had this happen to me before after using tenacity in a over seed to find out later the client didn't think it was working and shot it before or twice. Not realizing it takes 2 3 weeks to get the real effect in fall on a established plant

@@exposingthetruth3821 Thanks for the interest, ett. I'm in the UK, as far as I know Tenacity isn't available here and wasn't used in this case. Never found out the cause. I see I asked that question four months ago, the update is that it grew out and the grass looks terrific now. Just in time for the weather to change and ruin it again :--(

@@jamesthomson654 yeah. I would still assume it was a pre emergent strain of some form, but I'm in the states and have no understanding of the UK chemicals, seasons or grasses tbh. Just figured I'd throw out my two useless cents :)

A sand and soil mix is usually used as top dressing. Sand is much finer than soil and will give a finer level, it can also improve the soil texture and doesn't degrade over time

Good video as always. Sorry I’m 4 days late, for some reason I never got the notification. I had to do a similar job a few weeks back, and fortunately it’s looking good now, even got a couple of cylinder mower in! So I’m sure yours will be up to scratch before too long.
