If you are building up larger levels topsoil can be best to establish a level in the first place it can also be easier to grow seed in if you can't stay ontop of your Watering. If the garden is already mostly level the 70/30 is alot easier to spread and level fine spots out, more attention needed for Watering if you are overseeding too

Cool job! Will the rain wash out the sand thus destroying efforts to level the ground? In this case what are the alternatives and whether leveling the surface with soil will be more efficient (but also more costly)?
@mrmors3 жыл бұрын
A couple of questions: 1. Why have you not put a few mill of top soil over the top of the seeds as you've talked about doing in your other videos? By just giving it a rub over with the lawn lute after seeding you've essentially just knocked the new seeds off the existing grass so they have contact with the new sand/soil but they're uncovered? 2. Why not use the landzie spreader you reviewed? I used the method you've shown with a sandy top dressing and a lawn lute last year, and to be honest the results were not great at at, produced patchy coverage and a bumpy lawn a couple of months after, after it had settled. I've bought the landzie for this attempt this year hoping for a much more even coverage
@GardenLawncareGuy3 жыл бұрын
1) main bulk of seed went down and was covered, some on top too and rolled in 2) for fine dry mix like this level is better, the material is already screened to 1mm. Landzie better for dressing with more bulky materials that do not spread like this, poorer quality mixes that are not screened and have stones in or just a light covering for seed

Thanks Paul, topsoil for building grades and levels. Topdressing for fine levelling work. Topsoil can be a great way to bring new weeds into your lawn if not selected right and can be harder to spread and maintain fine levels but more cost effective and good root zone for grass. It's a pre mixed topdressing with specifically selected topdressing sand and soil. I did not hand mix this
@robthorn22822 жыл бұрын
you want a sharp sand, loam and peat and mix in a 3/3/1 ratio

i will order a sack , then need one of those leveling rake things
@GardenLawncareGuy3 жыл бұрын
Nice, it's very fine dressing sterilised and finely screened 👍
@19davidwinter883 жыл бұрын
You put pre seed fertiliser on when seeding your lawn I thought that wasn’t recommended as it’s not good for seed germination?

Can I use a 50 50 mix of sand and loam vs 100% Loam on my established lawn of Kentucky blue grass and fescue. Live in Boston area. I usually keep my grass mowed very high. I have just mowed low. Second to lowest position. Looking forward to your answers. Much appreciated

i think 50/50 mix is going to be hard to spread by hand,,im in springfield ma and will doing leveling job on my lawn in a few weeks from now,,going to thatch it first,,aerate second then top dress it and level it with mason or fine sand using a drag mat behind my tractor and also the leveling rake seen here,,i hope to see awesome results,will overseed also if necessary in some spots,,i have tall fescue

Thanks for the videos - very helpful. Is it ok to aerate, then scarify, then overseed/level over a few weekends?
@GardenLawncareGuy2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that all on the same day or a period of time if you wanted to

Hi Matt, my lawn is about to years old and some part have dipped so wanting to level with sand…..what type of sand do I need for a south facing garden in uk and can I buy it from a normal builder store?
@GardenLawncareGuy3 жыл бұрын
If they are big dips soils probably is better, sand for fine level work and I would not use pure sand really as it holds no nutrients gardenlawncareguy.com/shop/product-category/soil-dressing/
