I would cry from happiness if I was able to see those precious babies! I’ve loved turtles and tortoises since I was a small child, I even had a few until they stopped selling them due to salmonella. I even knew to always wash my hands and not let them crawl on our kitchen table! Thank you so much for sharing your babies and knowledge with us. ❤
@GardenStateTortoise4 ай бұрын
Thank you! Luckily the salmonella thing is blown way out of proportion and you basically have to stick the turtle in your mouth to get it. 😂

It makes sense to sell the baby turtles if Garden State Turtles wants to make enough revenue to sustain itself! Anyhow thank you for all the information you provide regarding the characteristics and care of turtles and tortoises. Thank you as well for showcasing North America's native turtle species. They never seem to get enough attention, even though they're just as beautiful and intricate as introduced species!

you can put as much salt as you want, worms get into the substrate where salt or any other chemical cant get in and they just stay there until water naturally just gets normal and they come up again.

I love turtles of all kind. Ever since I was a child, my sister and her friends one time went down to the corner bargain store not that it was right well, I was only young stole all them little tiny sliders and brought them up to me, I was a static. I love them so much. I did my very, very best to take care of them and love them, I don’t remember what happened to him but ever since then I was addicted to turtles tortoises or my favorite when my son was young. He got a baby snapping turtle from the pet shop not knowing how big it was going to grow. I can’t tell you how many tanks that we went through for him, he was 13 years old when I found him swollen in the tank we had him outside in his pool the day before and there were a lot of wasps around the water of course and I’m thinking maybe he swallowed a wasp and maybe his stroke got swollen because there was no reason why he should’ve diedhe never snapped me when I thought that I could feed him hamburger by hand but when I scream he let go so many people told me I was very lucky now I know he knew my voice and that he loved me. Thank you for sending these videos that I can enjoy now that I’m older and really can’t be taking care of tortoises lol

Question in regards to how Wood Turtles attract earth worms. Is it proven that the vibrations mimic rain rather than moles in their case? I'm only wondering as I know for a long time people thought worm charming sticks attracted worms to the surface by making the worms think its raining but from my understanding it's now believed that the vibrations mimic the vibrations moles make an so the worms come to the surface to flee from them. Just wondering if its possible something similar is happening with Wood turtles? Or has the vibrations they make been compated to mole & rain vibrations and proven (or at least significantly support) that the vibrations are at a frequency closer to rain then moles? Either way they're still a very cool species!
@GardenStateTortoise4 ай бұрын
Great question. The studies on wood turtles all suggest it’s to mimic rain but they’re also pretty old studies now so, I can’t be completely sure on that.
